Since the Edward Snowden "revelations," I've had at least on person in a phone call express concern over something I said that they thought might draw attention from government monitors. (In this case it was a reference to the American Revolution.)

I'll be curious to see if this trend grows.

If no one has done this in your electronic communications, please give it a few weeks before responding to this poll. Lets see how many people encounter the phenomenon over the next month or so.

I called my friend earlier this night, and right in the middle of the conversation I confessed my love to whatever NSA employee might have been listening in.

In my case, no, noone is chaning their habits of calling me nor am I changing MY habits of calling other people. I can only speak of me but in the case of myself or my friends we (they) really don't care if their conversations of going to the next micro-brewery or club we attend are overheard.

I'm not downplaying the seriousness of the government overstepping their reach, but in the case of myself or my friends should the government take their time to listen in to my conversations over a phone, my only hope is that they have "no-doze" because it is going to bore the **** out them.

No. Since the revelation neither I nor anyone I've talked to has said anything the government would care about, or that I would care about being overheard. I don't see the need for me or anyone I normally talk to to change calling habits.

I used to think that. And then the IR scandals came up. Apparently, there is nothing at all about you unless you're an illegal invader, Jihadi or a solid Democrat voter that the current regime does not find fascinating, compelling, and subject to official scrutiny.

Apparently the simple directions for the post were not sufficiently simplified, since within a few hours some people are already voting in the negative, when I'd asked people to wait a few weeks to gain validity for such a response.

Oh well, politics wouldn't be what it is if many of its participants didn't think themselves prophets and clairvoyants.

Best last poll option ever!

I've certainly never-ever said anything over a phone I wouldn't want the world to know. As for email? Never there either.

Say it, forget it. Write it, regret it.

Since I don't talk about a second revolution I am not too worried...

I reckon unless your phone number comes up repeatedly in pattern checks with known terrorist groups your calls are not listened to.

If it gets you all tingly to think someone is listening in then by all means drive on Sylvester! :peace

Now Alaska just might be our version of Siberia so unless ya'll come back down here- coz so few up there are 3rd generation Alaskan unless they are Native Americans, ya came from someplace warmer- come back down and start a fuss like Palin I doubt the Gubmint gives a hoot what you say. BUT the Gubmint might start shipping more folks up there and save the FEMA prisoner camps for later. ;)

That will put a dent in your nanny state check if enough are sent and the lower 48 keeps increasing oil/NG production

Who left the liquor cabinet open!

I didn't refer in my phone conversation to a "second revolution" either. I referred to the first. (Arguably the Second American Revolution was the adoption of the Constitution to supersede the Articles of Confederation. The Third would have been the illegal and immoral War of Northern Aggression. I would guess, taking the long view that we are in the early days of a Fourth Revolution in which the Constitution is retired in favor of a Bureaucratic Despotism.)

By the way, as the IRS Scandals have demonstrated to the quicker students, the Gov-ern-ment cares not only about what the current regimes perceived enemies say, but think, and even pray about.

I plan my terrorist attacks on America by post. No-one can read my handwriting without years of intensive training. However, it also means it will take years to iron out the fine details.

It's 6:30am here, drinking coffee getting ready to start my day before it gets to be 100 and WHAT?!.

You might need to slide the bottle back as I didn't claim anything about YOUR conversations, this was about MY conversations... it ain't all about you Boo-Boo.

What the IRS scandal shows is if you start a questionable charity with TeaBagger names attached ya might get scrutinized... but that ain't phone calls or email snooping of just anybody. No one says ya can't pray, but I do understand the Right needing to attempt this, both A LOT of prayer and focusing on trashing Obama. Given the big schism starting up in the House I see the real need for 'conservatives' to rally around the elephant and quit backstabbing and ankle biting each other.

If I was you I'd worry more about the 'troublemakers' being sent up north which would cut down on your annual nanny state check. :doh

Yes, yes.

But your idea of a terrorist attack is wearing white shoes after labor Day!

I make sure to never discuss fertilizer, 50 caliber, or gelginite in any conversations now.

Fear mongering --- again. Who would have thunk it?

Has anyone altered their phone or e-m ail conversations with you lately?

nah, but my separatist group has made the facebook group page private.

I have personally made some rather significant changes.

As of late I have been adding certain phrases to random messages. For example, I'll dial a random number and say "Yesterday's chicken is in the pot. I repeat, Yesterday's chicken is in the pot." or during a normal conversation I'll drop in "Able has lit the lamp".

I don't know if it does any good but if, after reading this, you start seeing black helicopters please let me know.

I've always assumed my e-mails, calls and online posts weren't private... I've been cautious from day one. Perhaps not with lovers, but that is going to change. Phone sex is now out of the question.

Perhaps you should have waited a few weeks before posting this poll.

I, like I believe most of my generation, have known since childhood that our phone conversations could be, and probably were, monitored. I behave accordingly, have all my life. From the beginning with computer communications I have known that privacy is an illusion in that sphere. That nothing is ever completely deleted (unless you use a BFM every single time and then shred the drive) and that eventually someone will see what I've written.

I can't say that I have, but then, I don't typically discuss politics on the phone or by email.

I generally don't reveal much personal information via text, e-mail, or voice phone calls. Even if they are not monitoring you right this minute, your texts could be databased for future searching. Then if you are ever theoretically detained for a crime, they can pile on the charges if they find evidence of additional crimes in your texting history. Since 80% of convinctions are now based on plea bargains and not actual trials, it won't matter if you're innocent or not. I'm a law abiding citizen, but with the number of criminal laws increasing yearly, it's already at the point where it can be sometimes hard to know if you're breaking a law or not. Because the system is becoming more fascist with time, I take precautions in case I am ever caught in a government legal trap.

Also, my personal life is just none of their ****ing business, so I limit their ability to read into it.

This explains annoying problems I've been having with my desktop and laptop - a delay in every character I type and every mouse movement. Seriously happening for about a month and very annoying! I must be in the black-book.

I've been encouraging people to include likely search words in their vernacular for a decade now.

I'm sure "The bomb" and "blowin it up" have wasted a bunch of NSA hours.
