The War on Atheism!

this is what gets me when american atheists speak about being "persecuted" due to some old bird giving them dirty looks.

Seriously, stop being such an emo-bitch

No, it's really more things like Christians trying to make laws to restrict our behavior, or Christian judges ruling that atheists are unfit parents in child custody cases, or that 7 state constitutions explicitly ban atheists from holding public office, and even those that don't, twisted religious bigotry will keep atheists from winning elections.

But by all means, keep turning a blind eye to the suffering of your fellow people.

1) I have told you numerous times I am an atheist.

2) YOU characterized it as an "atheist movement"

you wrote, and I directly quoted you as writing, "I think after century after century of religious domination...I think that it's laughable that religions and their followers are intimidated by atheists. Just because atheists are standing up and saying that religion and government don't mix...isn't reason to get all upset."

3) you could certainly say that there was a"movement" out of the enlightenment that supported the separation of church and state, with it's popularization via the writings of Locke

DC...Standing up publicly and defending one's rights...isn't a movement. And Locke was a smart man, but often contradicted himself. I admire some of this philosophies. He was dedicated to his religion.

At any rate...think what you will about my post. But, DC I still disagree with your perceptions.

Religious domination, torture, murdering sprees...etc...and now they crybaby about atheists advocating for their rights be equally protected under the law and that religious influence no longer reigns over private citizens via peddling it through government. What's the big deal?

or that 7 state constitutions explicitly ban atheists from holding public office

Just to address one example, these laws are hardly even relevant today (and that might be a generous view). being that such tests were ruled unconstitutional by the supreme court back in the 60's. They simply exist on the books

But by all means, keep turning a blind eye to the suffering of your fellow people.

Don't worry, Pasch, I'm sure every time some old bird wishes you Merry X-mas a kitten weeps.

Stay strong, brother

twisted religious bigotry will keep atheists from winning elections.

lol, no one needs to like or accept what you believe. And surely people simply not liking what you have to say on the subject of religion comes nowhere close to approaching any real notion of persecution or suffering.

lol~!!! How do you get that from me questioning the notion that secular govt is an atheist movement? And further more, how would such a question even imply that I supported anything even akin to a religious state or the various other pieces of **** you decided to fling my way?

You literally do not make sense

DC...you have trouble making sense of a lot of posters.

the notion that people make common logical mistakes when forming an argument is hardly anything new. In fact, that is why we have a well recognized system of logical fallacies

No **** Sherlock!

Most things I post make perfect sense to me. Sorry that you're all boggled down in fallacy theories.

of course the trick is to recognize the flaws in your own thinking. ;)

No **** Sherlock!

Well, you just raised the notion that I finding logical inconsistencies in a number of people arguments would dictate the issue is on my end. I'm pointing on "no", it does no such thing ...

Again, logical fallacies often do. That is why people often make such arguments, like appealing to popularity.

Sorry that you're all boggled down in fallacy theories.

I'm cool. No worries

well, it would help your above vague attack if you actually addressed them by pointing them out ...

My dear friend, DC...and some people like to make arguments appealing to fallacy. These wild diverse means of making arguments make the world go round.

Actually, not an attack. it was the universal you. I gave a smilie face hoping you'd know that.

Perhaps it should have been clearly confirmed at the outset if the poll referred strictly to atheism itself without the additional baggage that some atheists flaunt/carry about that others occasionally disdain.

Atheism/theism and agnosticism/gnosticism deal with two entirely different things. The first deals with belief, the second deals with knowledge. Unless you actively believe in the existence of a god, you are an atheist, regardless of your position on the availability of knowledge on such things. Theism is a positive belief. If you cannot say that you actively believe in a god, then you are an atheist, which is just a rejection of theism. That includes if you say you don't know or don't care if gods exist. No belief = atheism.

I believe in a God/higher power, but accept that I could be wrong. Either way, I'm good. The only problem I have is the same one every other person on this planet faces, and that is if there is one religion that is right and if you don't believe in it, then you go to a negative afterlife with no chance of change, but that is basically a gamble anyway so I'm not worried about it.

As others have said, there really isn't any war on any philosophical or religious viewpoints here in the US. There is however prejudice against some of these, including in many places, atheists. But there is also some for various religions as well, which ones would be dependent on where exactly you are in the US.

Now, there are definitely many Muslim/SE Asian countries that are conducting a "war on atheism" but it really isn't that new, just something we know about now because of how globally connected we all are. In Bahrain, along with many ME countries, it is illegal to not have a religion (in most it has to be a recognized religion). You can be arrested and put in prison for years (some countries it is a life imprisonment or death penalty) for being an atheist.

No war on atheism as well as religion. It's all just a bunch of ignorant extremists on either side stirring up trouble. I mean really a war? Please.

^I always loved that poster^. Been meaning to order a print for years

No there is no war, not in the United states. There are people on both sides of this that would like to see the demise of the opposition but these are extremists. I say **** them both. Faithful Christins go pray, faithful atheists refuse to pray and shut the#@&$ up about what the other one is doing.

I think there is a war on freedom here. two fascist minorities are attempting to take the freedom of the majority to ignore their stupidity.
