Government is not a business and shouldn't be treated as such. Efficiency is something all organisations have in common but the focus in government is different than that of private industry.

True, but success in one often requires the same attributes that help someone be successful in the other. Moreover, that guy we've been talking about, the one who lost the last election, was successful in business and government.

I'd vote for someone who was successful over someone who was not, pompous ass or not.

And some attributes are detrimental to government, too. You can't look at government the same way you look at a profit making enterprise.

Yes, he was successful in government. It's too bad many of his successes were scorned by the party he ran with.

Good morning, CJ. :2wave:

So this is what the 0400 hour looks like!

I am leaving on a business trip in a few minutes. See you next week!

Have a safe trip Lady P and don't work too hard - take care and see you soon

That is the lesson that the Republican Party fails to learn every time. Government is not a business and it never works to treat it like one....which is why every time Republicans are in control they leave a mess for the Democrats to come in and clean up.

This is the attitude that results in $17 trillion in debt and trillion dollar deficits - the old, government is different garbage. Government should stick to doing exactly what it's supposed to do, do all of that first, then and only then if there is any money left over you can look at the nice to have frills. Too many governments now believe it's the nice to have frills that they were elected to produce and bridges crumble in the meantime.

You're right - Republicans have failed where Democrats have succeeded, in the game of bribing voters with things they can't afford and saddling future generations with the bills. You must be so proud. Do you tell your children about the legacy of debt you're leaving them?

it took me about a minute to find pics of GWB, GHWB, and Reagan all having umbrellas held for them. i don't see what the big deal is.

Please. Republicans deficit spend, too. In fact, the only President to have a balanced or positive budget instead of a deficit in the last 50 years was a Democratic.

BTW - that "buy the vote" rhetoric doesn't work here. Most poor people in Missouri vote Republican and whine about whatever Rush tells them to whine about.

LOL - maybe out in La-La land you believe that when President Obama adds over $6 trillion in debt, and counting, to a total debt of $17 trillion and counting that only represents 16% of total debt accumulation. That 16% should be 60% and he's only just started his second term.

You really think I'm going to take advice on facts from a California liberal - really??

Isn't it though? But the party he ran with has to pretend to be conservative, and some of his political achievements/positions were not so conservative.

Seems to me that with everything else going on, the umbrella thing is really stupid. What about you, are you that bothered by it?

The gait for the umbrella gate would be the brokedick crawl.

As the author of this fine comic says,

The reactions were interesting because people let their political butthurtedness flow into their opinions on the matter. People seem to forget that we’re Marines, and this is exactly the kind of **** that Marines do. Somehow, holding an umbrella for the President and the Turkish Prime Minister is seen as demeaning, while all of the other bull**** that Marines do every day is not. I find it entertaining to see Marines on my Facebook page saying things like, “I would have told him to **** off and hold his own umbrella.”

No you wouldn’t.

Shut up.

We’re Marines, if the President of the ****ing United States asks you to hold a ****ing umbrella, you hold a ****ing umbrella. As well, the day I give a **** about a boot Corporal holding an umbrella is the day I’ve forgotten what the Marine Corps is. Honestly, holding an umbrella for the President is probably the least demeaning thing I could imagine doing as a Marine, as opposed to the other bull**** I had to do every day. No one would think twice about asking a boot to police call cigarette butts across the entire base at 5am, but the minute this boot has to hold an umbrella for the Commander in Chief, people get upset.
He’s the President, he rates an umbrella.
