For those who don't know, his father was Black and his mother was White.

On the way home from Starbucks I was listening to conservative talk show host Michael Berry; he said President Obama was half white, do you agree?

Half ass, useless as tits on a boar & president of the United States.

He's black. Takes a lot less than half African ancestry to count as black in this country.

Technically, that's correct. Why does it matter?

I remember the Cons here during the GOP primaries who were insistent that Hermann Cain was "blacker" than Obama. Which he is, I guess, but who cares? Of course they're the same ones who would NEVER play the race card....

I would describe him the same way I describe most politicians: as opportunistic, disingenious, liars, who wish to gain power. Who cares about the color of his skin? That doesn't matter one iota.

I would describe him as Bush III.

A mixed race Bush III, not that it really matters.

Mixed heritage. Neither takes precedence.

Half white or half black work--depending on who I am taunting and what angle I am using to do it from. Over half way done is fine with me. Mostly he is just feeble.

Let's see....momma was a Commie (and her parents) daddy was a Commie (his parents also)...so I guess he's a beige Commie.

If you didn't know his parentage, which is true of most black people you see, you would say he was black, right? Why make the distinction?

Probably. Apparently it's important to this radio host to put people in boxes and talk about Obama's racial background....

OMG. :lamo I saw the thread title and assumed it was about his political philosophy, leadership, intellect, etc.

In America anybody even partially black is considered black. However, if you're only partially anything other than black you're not considered white, Asian, Oriental, Polynesian, etc. except maybe Hispanic, only half or partically (fill-in-the-blank). Why this is, I don't know. I'm not sure if its a complement or racist; probably both depending on who you ask but it is what it is. As such, I say Obama is black. Like 99.999% of Black Americans he also has white ancestry but if he weren't POTUS nobody would mention it. He's the same race as Colin Powell, Eric Holder, Professor Henry Louis Gates, Louis Farrakhan, Malcom X, Tiger Woods, Halle Berry, Bryant and Greg Gumbel, Mayor Cory Booker, Ambassador Andrew Young, Condoleeza Rice, Mariah Carey, Prince, Beyonce, Susan Rice, Solodad O'Brien, Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, Will and Jada Smith, Alicia Keys....

Why indeed? I'd say why ask the question? Bit of race baiting perhaps? I notice you didn't list Asian - he could be Asian for all I know or care.

None of the above. A child of privilege, raised by a cosmopolitan academic mom and a banker grandma, he did not have any of the 'racial' experiences of the blacks in America - not until he entered politics and made a metaphorical fortune out of his skin pigmentation pattern. He is white, for all practical purposes. Hell, if we followed the Roman tradition of the nobles adopting promising candidates for Senate and for the throne of Emperor, his name would be Barack Obama Pritzker.

l cant believe some people are still interested in skin colors

both black and democrat and father is muslim too

it must be a real disaster for some cons

at least he is not gay.......

What the heck? Raised by a single mom. Family needed food stamps for a time. Teenage mom and dad who from a third world county on a scholarship. Even they wanted to go back to rural Africa to introduce his new wife to the family, there's no way they could have afforded the plane fare from Hawaii to Kenya.

The only life of priveldge Obama expericed was being brought up in a family that valued education and doing your best in school. And he got to experice life in another culture as a kid, which is an educational adventure most American kids don't get to experice. It did pay off for him however as he used his solid educational background to earn an Ivy League juris doctorate, that led eventually to him being elected potus. Money wise, he was poor some of the time and lower middle-class most of the time as a kid. If it was anything like my upbringing, he probably ate half of the time at the mercy and love of caring grandparents as a kid. The wonderful thing bout America however is no matter what station of life you're born into, with caring parents and a strong work ethic starting with elementary school, you don't have to say in poverty your whole life.

Btw: Hawaii happens to be one of the most racist cultures in America, something the tourists are shielded from, at least with kids. The native Hawaiians are at the top of the pecking order. Whites are second class citizens. No telling what kind of racial bullying Obama endured. There's a military brat sub-culture in Hawaii, which would be more colorblind but I'm not sure if Obama found his way into those circles.

What "poverty"? The famous loving grandmother (with whom Barack was living since he was 10) was vice president of the Bank of Hawaii. He studied at the elite Punahou prep school. Before that, he lived with his mother and stepfather - a liaison between the Unocal (now part of Chevron) and the Indonesian government. "Big Oil" coprorations may have many sins, but letting their key employees to starve is not one of them.

In any case, there was nothing "African-American" in his early experience. It is not bad or good, it is just how it was.
