So I have long mocked the Cons for trying to make Obama scandals where there are none. Now, you may have one or two, but you can't have them all... so, lets pick one. Which of the current scandals has the most traction (will damage Obama's reputation the most)? Is it also the one that offends you the most?

We should have a "remember when" flashback thread. I say this because Fenton in another thread just brought up Bill Ayers again. So, yeah, my answer is Bill Ayers.

But you said current, so being truthful I pick the AP story. I'm pretty sure that's the ballsiest incursion of privacy I've seen from him yet.

According to some, the scandal connected to Benghazi has to do with gun-running to Syria.

From what I know of right now, the IRS scandal is the worst. How can any American citizen be okay with what they did?

It is still too early for me to tell. As personally upset as I am about Benghazi, I think that was more incompetence than laws being broken.

As a fan of the Constitution and a believer in the Freedom of the Press the one that most concerns me is the AP story. But I will wait to see how it plays out.

Gun Running.

Former Sec. Of State pointedly stated that he would have done nothing different. I put the word of Gates above the vomit of the partisan hacks.

The IRS event is turning out to be a joke as 2/3rd of the audits weren't even on Tea Party groups and the only group that was denied status was a Democrat PAC.

As for the wiretappings, I don't know enough about it.

You forgot Fast and Furious.

How can any citizen be okay with what the IRS did before? The IRS has justifiable grounds to examine potential 501(c)4 abuse. And there is plenty of it.

What is sad about this is how certain groups from Churches to Greenpeace during the Bush years had the same **** done to them except there wasn't any reason but political hackery. People are getting upset that an area of the tax code that has been abused up the *** is getting stomped on while ignoring that 2/3rd of the audits weren't on TP groups and the only organization denied was a Democrat PAC at the same time ignoring how when the IRS did the same **** to other groups, it was done purely out of political spite. One Pasdena church came out against the Iraq War and was hit with a big audit. Tell me how that is the same as auditing an area that has tax experts for years demanding the IRS do something.

If you're going to be upset over the IRS scandal, you need to start walking back in time and start getting upset at the recent rounds of audits that were done purely out of political spite. At least the IRS now has a justifiable reason to smack down abuse.

You forgot Fast and Furious.

No, i did not forget Fast and Furious. Given that most people have, I gave it the attention it was due. Feel free to argue it under the "other."

Now, Fast and Furious may bother you the most, but its hard to argue it as an egregious scandal as it lacked the traction to make to "scandal" level. It is history.

The AP story will probably get the most traction but only because it directly effects the press.

Benghazi is the worst of the bunch because it's the one Obama is most directly involved in and most clearly shows the disconnect he has between politics and national security.

F&F is more a Holder issue than an Obama one.

The IRS story, like F&F, is going to be hard to tie back to Obama.

If I had to pick the absolute worst scandal it would be the exploitation of the Newtown incident to make a head on assault on individual liberty and flagrant disregard for the Constitution.

I don't know about that. Bush killed his gun running program when it failed. And several of the lost firearms were used to kill US border patrol. It's bad. In theory, it's not a bad idea, but they way they went about it was pretty horrible.

As a matter of fact, we can.

Actually, you can't. Sorry, but its a bit politically naive to think that you can successfully prosecute 3 scandals at once as they compete with each other for media time and only act to drown one another out. You need media cycles to make anything stick.

Second, your suggesting they have equal value suggests to me the only "scandal" to you is that Obama is in office. You are really only happy that he is in the hot seat and not particularly bothered by any of the so-called scandals. If you were bothered, one would bother you more than others.

Wiretapping the Associated Press is the worst among those listed. That completely violated the 1st Amendment. More heads should roll, and we should DEMAND answers here. The Patriot Act set precedent for these kinds of actions. People were all for it after 9/11, but they failed to see the potential consequences. We are seeing on of those consequences now.

We shouldn't be distracted by Benghazi. We should concentrate on the wiretaps and fraud from the IRS.

Compete? It's more likely these will all just fall under a broader narrative concerning trust in government. I wouldn't worry about not having enough "media cycles" - these stories will have traction for months.

I keep hearing this but read/heard somewhere that the IG at that time performed a similar investigation to the more recent one. It found that there was no discrimination in the IRS' selection for review meaning that both 'right' and 'left' organizations were reviewed 'equally'. I can't remember where I read this. Perhaps you can furnish some link that would help my search for details...thx

Fast & Furious by far is the most egregious. The other 3 you've list can all be condensed into one, The Re-Election of Barack Obama

The AP records to sniff out the moles on Benghazi, Benghazi, the purposeful misleading of the American People for political gain. The IRS and their specific singling out opposition groups limiting there ability to make an impact in the election.

If all these dots end up connecting this way, Tricky Dickey will haunt Obama the rest of his days if he don't resign...

The question is rigged: both the IRS thing and the AP wiretapping are pretty outrageous, but what makes them "Obama scandals"?
Is the intent here to whitewash the power abuse on the Left, by pretending that this is just the uninformed accusing the uninvolved?

I think the one that was the most damaging that was an issue before he became POTUS was his membership at Trinity United Church of Christ and association with Rev. Jeremiah Wright. It was this scandal that first clued me in as to the propaganda nature of the conservative media in America, which up till that time I honestly believed the conservative media to be the only place we could turn to for unbiased truth and the mainstream media were left-wing apologists including CNN- the Communist News Network, PSNBC, Meet The Depressed on NBC, CBS- The Communist Broadcasting System, etc., etc. :lamo

I've been a member of churches almost all of my adult life, 3 in total. For years I was a member of a church where to be honest the Pastor had his moments making controversial statements from the pulpit on things like sexuality, interracial relationships, money, marriage and other issues and did some nutty things on occasion too. Just because I didn't walk out immediately doesn't mean I agreed with each and everything of a controversial nature ever done or said.

What many non-Christians do not realize is Church membership is not something you pick and choose as if it were religious consumerism. In fact, if someone selected which church they join based on their own personal "preferences" as they would a restaurant, a grocery store, a vacation destination, etc., I personally would personally question whether their faith is authentic. If somebody left a church because they didn't like something the Pastor said; short of things like denying the existence of God, the virgin birth of Jesus, the resurrection, etc., I'd really question whether their faith is authentic or if they'd ever read the Bible. Even fellow POTUS candidate, Gov. Mike Huckabee, a former Christian minister, stood up for Sen. Obama and defended his choice not to walk away from his church just because his Pastor said some controversial things. In the Bible there are examples of inappropriate or controversial things said and going on at Church/Temple. I can't think of a single instance where people walked out except one where the people leaving were portrayed as the ones being in the wrong for leaving over a statement made that at the surface sounded horrific but honestly did not understand the speaker was speaking symbolically.

Thirdly, and this is really gonna really ruffle some feathers but a minister saying the country he both lived in and loved deserved to be defeated by an invading army has Biblical precedent. The answer as to where could be a question on Jeopardy. BTW: I don't agree with Jeremiah Wright's assessment as to the spiritual reasons that triggered 9/11. Nor do I agree with Jerry Falwell's statements on the spiritual causes of 9/11 yet I admire his for his decades of service to the Lord that continues to this day years after his passing. I also understand some people only see things their political prism and because they don't like his politics, they can see nothing else.

Thing is, the wiretapping is NOT new news. Fact is, it's been going on for some time now. So where was the outrage during the Bush era, when they chaged the laws to allow unwarrented tapping all in the name of fighting terrorism!11!!!!

The IRS bothers me most of all.

Either the IRS or the AP tapping.

To you its only the worst if it sticks? If there is traction? The AP story will likely get the most traction because it effects the media who'd cover it, not because its the worst.

We can have them all, they will all hurt the Democrats. Fast and Furious was the worst to me and had the least traction.

The scandle of Bengazi is two fold:

1. An American embassy, embassy staff and ambassador was under a protracted deadly military attack. Special forces were prepared to quickly arrive on the scene and were repeatedly ordered to neither defend the embassy and staff and to not engage the attackers.

2. The White House repeatedly lied about happened to the American public and Congress.
