Should This News Anchor Been Fired?

I was wondering if this was going to start floating around the nation, and it had. It's my home town.

Yes, he should have been fired. First off, he was supposed to be aware of it being potentially on at all times. Second, it was a very big first day error. Third, this was getting far too much attention.

This Youtube video has more views than North Dakota has people

No...we gotta get over this one and done crap. He screwed up, learned a big lesson and he's unlikely to do it again (I'm assuming). Maybe, if he was doing it on purpose...but this was clearly his first news cast and that was not a well seasoned team, mistakes are going to happen. Get over it and move on.

oh the irony here.

the media loves it when they catch a politician making a stupid comment.

He should be fired. He's lousy anyway. Needs seasoning. Bad hire.

They start the newbies on Sunday. Our market isn't going to have incoming young stars, but this is a common way for them to develop their skills.

I'm assuming the guy said, "****in' ****." At least that's what I thought I heard. Who would say that at a television station in the presence of co-workers his first day on-air? Poor judgment just in that regard alone - he was in a roomful of people, I'd guess. I can't imagine anyone I've ever worked with even saying that in an office setting -- much less with a microphone sitting in front of him -- and much less as a new hire. Gads.

Even in THAT market, people are no doubt standing in line all over the country for an on-air slot. Bad hire. Must be someone's nephew. ;)

You got that interpretation right. At first people thought he said "gay" just before those two words, but he was trying to pronounce a name.

I see he was fired. Immediately suspended. Co-anchor apologized on 10 PM broadcast. Fired on Monday. He sure blew it. Painful lesson learned early.

I think it would have been o.k. if he had said "fornicating poopoo" instead.

It's what I always do when in full throes of tourettes.

How funny is it his co anchor introduced him as a new addition to their team. That sure was short lived.

Agreed. The man simply doesn't seem to be cut out for this kind of work.

Even if we ignore the f-bomb, his annunciation is slurred, his projection is weak, he obviously doesn't have a clear idea of what he's trying to say, and he quite clearly buckles easily under pressure. He's simply a bad public speaker.

Did they not interview this guy before hand?

Aw, cut the guy some slack. Everybody has first day jitters. In front of a camera, it's even worse. I had to do a commercial once for a dealership I worked it, and I was so scared, I almost puked. The owner never was satisfied with it, because I was so freaking scared. Noticeably scared.

No. I do not believe in firing people for one time mistakes. I support letting people go who seem likely to commit violations in the future. The only way to determine this is observing a repeated pattern.

As sorry as I feel for the guy, he said ****ing **** on tv, which gets the station in HUGE hot water with the FCC! They probably didn't have any choice, or they were looking at a major fine. At least the schlup didn't show his nipple!

Seems like he doesn't have the skills to be an anchor or be on TV. I understand being nervous, but his performance was lousy. In a professional setting it is not appropriate to swear like that, on or off the camera. I support him being fired.

Yep, It's called stage fright. And it can happen to the best of us.

Reminds me of the first gig I had with this rock band. I saw how many cars were in the parking lot of the venue.

I didn't just have butterflies in my stomach, I had psychotic pterodactyls playing punting practice in my stomach.

Raaaaaalph....

....all over the sidewalk.

And that wasn't the only time I puked before a gig.

Lol @ the top comments.

I wouldn't fire him for dropping the f-bomb, but rather for being a total nub. He doesn't seem equipped to be an engaging, lively news anchor. I'm sure he'll get better sooner or later, hopefully.
