Beyonce and Jay-Z's Trip to Cuba

Who did the Cuban vacation help

Well, I am making a judgment call on the "culture" they wish to export. And I am delighted that Jay-Z bragged in a rap about his special connection to Obama. Maybe he'll learn something from the backlash.

Money and politics, what can you do? Democrats get support from entertainers we might not all like. Republicans get support from groups like Bob Jones University where it was University policy for black students and white students not to date as recently as 2000 and only due to an onslaught of public pressure. I dont think its necessarily fair but I realize in order to win elections candidates need help from a wide range of groups and individuals often with whom they disagree on many issues and guilt by association thing happens but guess all sides and all groups are vulnerable.

FYI: prior to 2000 a pit stop at BJU was standard for every GOP presidential candidate. Imposing the same unfair standard some people use with respect to Obama and some of his supporters, that would mean Reagan, H W Bush, Dole, Gingrich and McCain must probably think its immoral for people of different ethnicities to be romantically attached.

The vacation does nothing to promote changes on Cuba, but it does a little bit to remind Americans that the USA is supposed to be VERY different from Cuba: for example, American citizens are supposed to be free to go on vacation wherever the hell they please (assuming we are not at war with that country). Of course, it would be better if top-rank celebrity were not a requirement....

Learn what from the back lash? What backlash?

Conservative white protestant Republicans were Jay-Z's public before and now they'll leave him in droves? Oh no!

What? He's not going to sell a million albums as he has regularly done with his.... oh what... 10 last albums? Oh no!

What? He's not going to be worth half a billion dollars tomorrow? Hahaha. Please.

My honest opinion is this trip helped the Cuban regime with a nice photo op and good press from these two worthless air heads.

Worthless airheads? Worthless? I take it you're worth more than 500 million? And... airheads? "Airheads" don't go from ghetto broke to richer than you and your whole family. Actually, I'd say a homophobic, borderline racist is worth less than they are, but who am I to judge such things?

Just a nice holiday I imagine. I went to Cuba a few years ago and had a great time, Old Havana was breathtaking and the Rum and cigars hit the spot lol.

worthless or multi millionaires who also happen to be worldwide icons...

So are we trying to turn Cuba into another exclusive resort for the rich and friends of government?

You're assuming that the "culture" that Jay-Z purveys is valuable and, uh, "cultural." The demi-monde of hip-hop isn't representative of who I am or what I stand for as an American.

No where is it written that unless every citizen likes something it isn't 'American'. :)

Let us not forget Beyonce was also there (superbowl girl) and like it or no, the two of them have millions of followers and from what was shown of their visit quite a few young Cubans appreciate the two American performers as well. The old folks have had to shot at this, both the rabid anti-castro folks and the Cuban leaders in their walkers. Now is the time for young folks to step forward, ignore the droolers and move both nation's forward.

Except as a Cold War pawn Cuba has never been a threat to us and the one nation boycott has not changed Cuba's course one degree.

Actually it has, instead of American hotels running everything it is European chains, instead of American cars they have European cars, etc...

I think it helped the Cuban economy. It contributed to fostering a more pro-America sentiment among the Cuban public if not for our government, for our people and culture. I wouldn't be at all surprised if part of the Boyonce and Jay-Z entourage were under-cover intelligence people collecting information for the US Government.
