Very true. I could have more. I have never met 9 of my first cousins. My mom was a change of life baby, so I'm very removed in age from them.

That's why I chose the "squirrel" option too! :lamo You didn't have an "I'm not sure" option.

In my experience they are all a six pack away...
Oh I know LOTS of bisexual women.

You have to leave it off the list because ANYONE who says they don't know any women who are bisexual is beyond deluded. Hell, I'd argue that more women are bi than completely straight.

For the sake of argument, bi also includes "bi-curious".

I freakin' wish.

I've had situations where alcohol gets an honorable mention, but some women are just dead set against it. It's more prevalent down here, but up in Michigan I had a higher batting average.

First Gina, I'd like to thank you for the squirril! option, I chose that too.

Also chose the I have gay relatives and transgender relatives/acquaintances.

That is good to know, taking a motorcycle trip through the whole state in July

Stay on I-75 and you're golden.

Oh wait, is this the thread that Redress closed up shop on? I'm gonna duck out from here on, just in case.

Oh well, we are riding the back roads from Lowell to Frankenmuth up to Alpena, cross the big bridge to Sault Ste Marie and then all over the UP before coming back down through Traverse City and Luddington.

I know a few trans acquaintances . I don't know of any trans family members.

I have a few gay extended family members.

My closest friends from childhood pretty much all turned out to be gay or bisexual. My male best friend as a kid is gay, my female best friend who I was raised with like a sister (we were always at each other's house and our parent's were very close) is bisexual. She's hilarious and we still keep in touch and talk frequently. I also know a few homosexuals from school who have always been good company. I also know 2 people in my church that overcame homosexuality.

As far as I know I have no gay relatives.

But we are very good friends with a gay man and his partner who was the recipient of our eldest daughter's heart when she died from injuries sustained in a 1995 automobile accident.

Inspired by Redress' post regarding Chief Justice Roberts' lesbian cousin attending the Supreme Court arguments on SSM, I wondered how many DP'ers have gay relatives and friends. As people are more and more comfortable with coming out, I think it's more likely than ever that most of us have gay relatives and friends.

For my part, two of my deceased uncles were gay. I also have had numerous gay friends and acquaintances over the years. One of my extended members is undergoing gender reassignment.

When I was in Southeast Asia, I trained some Thai and Lao soldiers who were gay. They, the Thai and Lao had no problem with them and neither did I. In Thailand and Laos, transgender are known as Katoey’s and Katoey’s are recognized as the third sex. Again I had no problems with them either. In fact Thailand, much like we have the Miss USA pageant, they have a Miss Katoey pageant every year.

My wife’s beautician is a Katoey from Thailand and he is a very nice guy. He has some pictures from Thailand when he was young, he was one good looking and sexy Katoey. There are two gay couple that visit the same Wat as the wife and I do, outstanding couples. My wife by the way is Thai.

Unfortunately, the Western mind, brutalized for the last 2013 years into thinking soley in terms of "this or that", "good vs evil" "black and white", will probably never be able to recover from it's disease.................

Yeah, but perhaps the west will get there. Just think Bonz, if it weren't for the military I probably would be still spouting that bible belt stuff.

Bonz has probably just sent a Thank You card to your Military recruiting office.... :2funny:

At this point that is probably the extant of recovery to be expected------------Individuals will find their way out of the darkness..................

I simply refuse to believe that someone could not have at least ONE friend or family member that's gay. Statistics say it's damn near impossible.

Yeah, I think it's likely those answering 'no' either don't have many friends/family or just aren't aware of it, or possibly they walk around with a "Stay away from me homos" vibe.

Living in, among and training different cultures can be an eye opening experience.

I don't know where you are progress-wise on your book, but this might merit a chapter! Just a thought... :)

I can see no reason why people would be against it, it does not harm anyone.

I am assuming that his teen years were a long time ago. I guess I should have put it more like--I get why old folks did it, but I see no reason for younger people to ever go in the closet to begin with.

It's still hard as a teenager, reflected by the suicide/drop out/homeless rate. At that age, well-placed haters can ruin your life, and i know one HS senior who is sadly still in the closet. By the college age, though, I agree it makes little sense. It becomes self-destructive at that point.

The fiction portion is finished and I am running it on ZOETROPE a couple of chapters at a time, loosely based on my own experiences. As to my memoirs, I haven started them yet. I needeed the writing experience of the fiction novel first. I sure could add the first Katoey or transvestite bar I walked into in Bangkok. Aptly name the Sea Hag.

small family, perhaps a great aunt was gay since she never married but she was ancient by the time I even knew what sex was!

but one of my three best friends in HS sent me an email saying

Dearest turtle, I am changing my name and my gender. I don't know if that makes him/her gay-he was married with two daughters-does that mean he was once a lesbian trapped in a man's body?

anyway he was my friend when he was a dude and she's still my friend as a woman.

If I do have any gay friends or relatives unless they are in the closet.

I think HS's need to stay in the closet as to the whole world for sure just because of the dangers but I would still think they could be out as to their family and closest friends. IDK--it just feels like a balance thing moreso than a feast or famine thing.

Yes, family and friends....
