U.S. lost $433,982,548 because of Daylight Savings Time switch | The Sideshow - Yahoo! News

But the annual switch to Daylight Savings Time reportedly continues to be a costly endeavor, resulting in a net loss of $433,982,548 for the U.S. economy.

The above number sounds ridiculously insane to me. It's one hour on a F'n Sunday. Take a nap. Sleep in an extra hour. Go to bed earlier. Stop whining.

At any rate, isn't it time to end this nonsense?

I say leave the clocks "ahead" the one hour that they are now and never change them again.

Lighter at the end of the day is far more enjoyable than lighter earlier in the day. We don't need darker earlier in the day.

What say you?

Should we stop this craziness? Stop changing our clocks back and forth twice a year?

An old Indian once said, "only a white man would think cutting one end of a blanket, off and sewing it onto the other end would give him a longer blanket".

How can we stop this insanity?

I dont care what time it is. I really dont understand the big deal.

choose one time and leave it in place. people seem to like the extra daylight after work, so permanent DST seems to be the way to go.

I am dying to know why people would prefer darker earlier?

If you vote that way, and you don't mind explaining why, could you please tell us why?

maybe because its better to sleep when its dark

This is really messing with me . I posted at 7:12 why does it say 5:12 anyone have the same problem

Where I live the absolute latest sunset with daylight savings time is about 8:32pm.

So it's DARK by 9:15pm-9:30pm at the latest.

I can understand in some states where perhaps it's light out until 10:00pm or later, but how many places does that happen?

Well, I hope someone explains why daylight savings is a good thing. This is pathetic.

How about when Chavez created a new timezone, :30, to fight against neoimperialism. What a mightly blow he struck upon the invaders that day.

Daylight savings is good because having more daylight later in the day allows for more outside activity after work.
It also keeps things darker longer in the morning which makes sleeping in later in the morning easier.

More people have more usable, non-working, daylight in the evening than they do in the wee hours of the morning.

That's why it's good. You can work your regular day, come home, eat dinner, and then STILL have time to go outside and enjoy some activities and fun.

Well ecofarm, IIRC Ben Franklin invented it for the sake of farming hours & productivity.

Now that so few of us are farmers, lets rid ourselves of this waste of time.

I think it's good for kids (and people in general), to have sunlight when they go to school or work ~7am. You know, some people still do that.

Why do kids need to be at school at 7:00am?

Let them go at 8:00am.

I deleted that post because I couldn't verify what I posted upon searching.

As for people seeing the sun on their way to work/school, that is of little consequence. Especially when its only for 1/3 of the year.

Let them go at 8:00am.

IKR, get them on a schedule that doesn't kill 9-5 parents.

Without daylight savings time sunrise in June in Delaware would be 4:35am

Who wants that?

How we account for the passage of time doesn't concern me. It's when we run out of it that I'll get worried.

I think we should get rid of it.I lived in Korea for a year and it did not bother me that they did not go forward or back a year.

Set it ahead and leave it.

If a business does need to stick closer to solar time the computers can handle the difference a lot cheaper than the whole country bouncing back and forth.

Just get rid of it, it makes no sense in an industrial era. Personally, just about every clock in the house switches automatically so setting times is a virtual non-issue, but there's still no reason for it.

Ugh... just get rid of it already.

We should abolish it cause I was busy writing a paper and the clock suddenly jumped an hour forward. Man was I pissed.

For the vast majority of people, isn't the extra light at the end of the day more "productive" than the extra light at the beginning of the day?

I prefer to keep the twice yearly reminder that the government can control anything if we let them.

I love DST, it is great to change things up very now and than. I actually wish it could be more often, maybe they could even do it at random intervals just for kicks.

if it is, it's more productive in November, December, January, and February, as well. leave it in place.
