Re: Is it immoral to download from unauthorized sources (c) TV shows over 39 years ol

Well, I was calculating at 50GB/movie, the most possible. And those hd torrents are crap, they can slap "HD" or "1080p" on those all they like, they're still crap.

Anyway, Superfly definitely needs to get the WD Sentinel 16TB external drive. At 40GB/movie he can cram 400 bluray movies on there, and all for the ultra cheap price of $1,699.99.

WD Sentinel DX4000 16TB Small Business Storage Server and 1 Year Guardian Express Service Bundle

Yeah, which means to get just my commercial DVDs on there, I'd need 7 of those. More actually because I have tons of TV series boxsets. :)

Re: Is it immoral to download from unauthorized sources (c) TV shows over 39 years ol

How could it be if that's where they get their copies?

Because the source is often different. There's the Wildfeed. The networks send the Wildfeed to the locals anywhere from a few hours to a few days ahead of broadcast so local identifiers and adverts can be inserted for local broadcast. They (used to anyway) send this out over the old C band sat network. The cappers have C band access, pull in the show, queue it up and post to ftp topsites and the usenet by script. The torrent users generally get this or another local capper's work (generally pulled from broadcast TV).

The Wildfeed does not contain commercials and can be higher quality than local broadcast.

Cappers pull commercials anyhow and most transmissions are digital today. As long as it's watchable, I'm happy.

I think the HD torrents (many of them) are decent. I've seen blue ray and it wasn't as impressive as people seem to think. However, I cannot seem to play the blu ray format on my computer because it simply doesn't buffer faster enough. Even if i hit control, alt, delete and change the priority to only using the specific program needed, it still buffers painfully slow and is choppy. The quality on it is awesome, almost like 3D without the 3D i admit, but i'm not that fancy. HD bit torrents do fine for the small amount of movies and tv shows i view regularly.

anyhow, I'm holding out for the next fad after blu ray. :)

I'd be surprised if that wouldn't be some kind of storable media. Everything is streaming, and instant now. I still buy CDs , and was shamed for it not long ago. "Who still buys CDs?" Well, I do.

I buy the CDs and upload them to my mp3 player. My mp3 player usually stays in my car, hooked up to a usb port in my center console. It's cool - there are no wires scattered all over the car. Just straight hooked up in my console, and then the songs show up on the screen on my dash, and I just scroll through the folders on my mp3 player. Technology is making things so much easier.

I have literally thousands of DVDs. I refuse to replace them. Furthermore, I have grown increasingly agitated with trying to keep the DVDs in order and from being scratched. I don't understand why people tolerate it. It seems more efficient and ordered to have media on some type of hard drive format where it can be easily kept and retrieved. Also, the quality is HD. I seriously doubt there is much of a difference. But i guess if i had piddled my money away on a stack of Blu Rays, I'd also want to feel good about that.

I've had much better luck with physical media than I had with files, from encoding the files myself to having them last. The difference is certainly there.

On the contrary, I know the inevitable was of the process. I was an early adopter of both bluray and hd-dvd.

So that's...$11,900.

Worth it!

This is my first and I love it. It's one of the reasons I bought this particular car. It had lots of goodies, and that was one of them. Hated the color, but loved the goodies.

I refused to buy either until a format was decided upon. I wanted to, and honestly thought HD-DVD was going to win. But all the theaters kept going Bluray so when they won, I started buying Bluray.

I still think HD-DVD's menu system was better, but the format had clear weaknesses. I am still in the middle with the Blu-ray spec being unfinished.

Re: Is it immoral to download from unauthorized sources (c) TV shows over 39 years

Never used an HD-DVD, so I don't know how much better they were. Wasn't brave enough to play the odds.

Re: Is it immoral to download from unauthorized sources (c) TV shows over 39 years ol

We Should cut back on the copyright when the owners of such is a corporation. As quoted by others here the Constitution says Congress can give to the inventors and creators of works a time to benefit from their efforts but that should not be measured in centuries.

Not a bit, I'm much happier having all of the DVDs and if I need to, I can rip a movie here or there if I really want to take it somewhere on a portable device.
