Leaving NKorea, Rodman calls Kims 'great leaders'

How does this affect your image of Kim Jong Un

  • He's just a regular guy that needs a good PR agent in the USA.

North Korea has a history of imprisoning people for stupid things, including denigration of the state. If this doesn't bother to the point where you're willing to make laughably ignorant and condescending comments like the one above, then maybe you should go to North Korea and disparage the government publicly and see what happens to you. I'm sure it will be fun, LOL.

Is that the same as Pvt. Manning, Kirikao, or Julian Assange? I believe that our gov't believes it was disparaged by these three gentlemen.

Yes, they do, but they are all North Koreans, aren't they!?

Golly, I would be scared to go, and having to join all of those many, many other famous foreign prisoners who are already there, like, umm, well you know, from, umm.........Gosh, never mind, they are all North Koreans, too!

Oopsie!

Isn't the USA the country with the highest proportion on its' citizens in prisons?

What is North Korea's?

Didn't sequestration cuts just lower aid to poverty stricken in the USA?

As opposed to North Korea where "sequestration", whatever that gay **** is, is not an issue. They are all fed, to each other.

Kim Jong Il to Kim Jong Un just like Bush to Baby Bush, eh?

Clinton was in the middle. Wink.

Will the fact that Kim is ordinary crash his Demon image in the USA press?

This is just ridiculous.

I forgot Rodman even existed until now.

I'm sure now that he's gone, NK state media are probably busy showing what a great example he is of decadent, corrupt, impotent western culture.

Gee, I was unaware of North Korea's sordid history of imprisoning famous foreigners for public comments.

Shin Sang-ok - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shin Sang-ok (October 18, 1926 – April 11, 2006) was a prolific South Korean film producer and director, with more than 100 producer and 70 director credits. He is most famous for having been kidnapped by the previous North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, for the purpose of producing critically acclaimed films.

North Korean abductions of Japanese citizens - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Later, North Korea allowed the five victims that it said were alive to return to Japan, on the condition that they return later to North Korea. The victims returned to Japan on October 15, 2002.
However, the Japanese government, listening to the pleas of the general public and the abductees' families, told North Korea that the victims would not be returning. North Korea claimed that this was a violation of the agreement and refused to continue further talks.

Now you are.

Let's see now, torture, Guantanamo, kangaroo courts are OK. We only invaded North Korea once so they shouldn't be building weapons to defend from us just because we cover the Southern half of their penninsula like a blanket. We attack people without 'Nukes', like Vietnam, Granada, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Nicaragua(contras), Panama, and the list goes on, but we don't attack countries with nukes. Not so subliminal message, get y'all some nukes, mos' scratchee! It's not Iran that has helped NKorea get its' Nukes working, but our great ally Pakistan and their uber hero A. Q. Khan. That's the same A. Q. Khan that offered Libya help for its' discontinued Nuke program and look what happened to Libya. Is there a message here?

Can't tell if serious. Are you really trying to make a case for the US being worse than North Korea?

Rodman towers over most Americans.

I would love to see some group photos with him and a bunch of North Koreans.

He would be a giant next to them.

I wonder if the people were scared of him.

Was any part of my post inaccurate? Are you suggesting we are worse? Just basic comparisons to give perspective. Don't you think?

Those both refer to programs of kidnapping foreign nationals, sometimes totally randomly. The instance of sang- ok was specificly for the production of films.

So neither actually deal with what you claim. Also, it's not like anyone forcedRodman to offer such glowing praise originally, when he could have easily not commented or offered a more tempered response.

Most likely Rodman is just a stupid **** who didn't expect such a negative backlash, and is now attempting to do damage control

Seems the options available to him go beyond highly praising the guy and public ally calling him a tyrent.

Obvious false dichotomy.

Divulging state secrets is a bit different than calling the head of state a poo-face

Are people seriously giving Rodman **** for not trashing Kim Jung Un while INSIDE OF North Korea? I'd like to see any of the people giving Rodman **** for his words criticize North Korea while inside of it.

not trashing Kim =/= heavily praising him

Are you joking? They jail foreigners all the time. Check your ignorance. I honestly cannot believe how comfortable some people are with speaking before they educate themselves. Holy ****.

EDIT: Just saw Hatuey's post. Hopefully, you're done spewing ignorance now.

Manning and Assange are not wanted for "disparaging" the government. They are wanted for releasing government security secrets. I don't agree with how Manning and Assange have been treated by the U.S. government, but let's not pretend that what they did is the same thing as merely speaking out against the government. It isn't. I have no idea who Kirikao is and upon doing a Google search, all I got was some African folk tale.

The NK kidnappings mentioned above had little to nothing to do with people criticizing the NK state. For the most part, they were just random people kidnapped for no reason. As bizarre as that sounds

Yeah, and my original comment that SMTA criticized was, "People have been jailed in North Korea for less," so while Hatuey's comment may not directly counter SMTA's red herring, it supports my actual argument that he was trying and failing to critique.

Do you mean the rest of the World is turning sane? We're imprisoning whistleblowers (Kirikao) who report torturers and don't imprison the torturers. We're imprisoning those that reveal the truth about the Iraq War (Manning). We want to arrest Julian Assange because he revealed the truth about our diplomacy of lies. Where's all that sanity in the USA?

I don't want to take this thread off topic, but I can't let this just go without saying something. Not that saying anything is going to change what you think. From my expirience, the people who have the view you have are so hard wired with it that they ignore any good points the opposition of their view may have. While yes, I agree that there is a problem with hiding actual acts of tourture. And I also agree that those responsible for it should be punished. I believe if you hold this view, you cant just pick and choose what countries you are going to apply it to. The US, by far, does the most work on meeting the values we feel should be held to during war. Does that excuse the incidents that do happen, does that mean we should not point out when we stray from those values, of course not. However, its very telling, when people only focus on the US and not on issues that are common in other parts of the world.

Its very telling that people attack the US for the hand full of instances of torture in Iraq and say nothing about the torture that was inflicted on the Iraqi people by the dictator we sought to overthrow. Some even make the claim that Iraq was better off under Saddam just in spite of the invasion of Iraq by the US. They make the glaring mistake of advocating against the very thing they are trying to advocate for by saying things like these.

I agree that people have been jailed for less, but these people weren't even in NK originally. One girl was kidnapped while walking home from school in rural japan (i think she was 14 at the time). It's some really crazy **** to read up on and absolutely makes no sense as you do

Anyhow, my reply to this thread is that we should put little weight in Dennis Rodman's opinion on North Korea. If Dennis Rodman did any kind of research on North Korea he would find that King Jong Un is not "Awesome". Unless you define "Awesome" as starving people, oppression of free speech, oppression of free expression, oppression of basic human rights.... I really don't understand why there is a press conference being held to hear the opinion of someone who believes these things are "Awesome". Unless of course the purpose of the conference is to highlight how an ignorant basketball player was wined and dined and saw the propaganda as truth.

no vote
no selection even close to the truth.
I do wonder about Rodman, he of the brave but foolish of men.
And, IF the N Korean leader were to leave his safe confines (if allowed to do so !) and travel the world, he might change his views...

well, it certainly delivered him from total obscurity

Name one famous American sportsperson, who visited like Rodman, made nasty comments, and was then jailed.

I'll wait.

and in return, the Kims all agreed that Rodman is quite the extraordinarily handsome and erudite man.
