The march towards a police state continues

Are you in favor of a police state with little or no rights?

We've been marching that way for quite some time, where have you been? More monitoring, more databases, more intrusive government, more war, more excuses, less control. This is the Republocrat machine, this is what it does; it is the fast road down Fascism and everyone seems to be smiling all the way.

Here in KY we have KASPER, a drug monitoring database. If you live here, you better pray you are not a cancer patient or a doctor treating a cancer patient. You could both end up in the brokeback prison for the treatment of cancer pain.

Because the march continues and nothing seems to stand in the way and there are no impeachments or recalls, I'm beginning to think that this must be what Americans want...?
A you talking about the poliece state like Mississippi was during the 60's? I spent about a year in Mississippi during the 60'si.

The most egregious example is the CIA. Originally chartered to help USA CORPORATIONS overseas, but now operating within the USA.
It now has its' own armed troops, foot on the ground soldiers. Runs drones. Runs huge electronic intelligence gathering networks. All this with a Charter to help USA CORPORATIOONS. To me this implies fascism and I worry about complete domination of our gov't by CORPORATE/CIA allied interests as opposed to the people. Examples are our recent past resource wars. We were not attacked, but brought natural resources into our CORPORATE network. Next, the CIA will be running the drone program in the USA and I want to remind you that the USA has more of its' citizens in jail than any Nation on Earth. Jails are good business. Drones are good business. Resources are good business. Wars are good business, but let's not talk about these things, heah!

The CIA was originally set up as an agency which dealt only with intelligence gathering. However, it has to turned into something quite different.

And on two occasions throughout the history of the United States, it was actually illegal to say anything which was disrespectful of the government or its leaders. There was the Alien and Sedition Act of 1798, and there was the Sedition and Espionage Act during World War I. Many people were tried and convicted. It was a dark mark on the protections of speech and expression. There was also Japanese internment camps, Watergate, the Palmer Raids, the Red Scare, McCarthyism, etc, etc.

All of these were egregious violations of our liberties. But, guess what? We got through it, and things got a little better. And as long as we as a society value freedom, things will continue get better, even if there are bumps along the way.

Those whose lives were torn apart by these violations of liberties didn't exactly just get through it. Our government has resorted to tyranny many times, as I've shown in the examples I mentioned and as you've shown in the examples in your post. This is why I don't consider it paranoia to be concerned that we could become a police state. There is no guarantee that once the government abuses its power that it will always backtrack. We've had the Patriot Act for over a decade now and it's showing now signs of going away.

I think it was Ben Franklin who said, "Those who chose security over liberty soon shall have neither."

Thomas Jefferson said, "A government that can give you everything you want is also strong enough to take everything you have."

Good afternoon, Pero.

Excellent quotes. We've been warned! Sad that some don't yet understand...but they will :(

You know pol, I was thinking about this. Since the 50's when I grew up, the loss of freedoms for security has been very gradual and hardly noticeable. Yet if one compares the individual freedoms of the 50's to today, it does stand out in sharp contrast. As long as the loss is very slow, almost perceptual then there is no alarm raised. There is no sense of loss, yet it is happening right before us.

It is hard to put a finger on it, but if one looks at the influence of government in an individual citizen's life, it is easier to see. Back when I was young, Washington D.C. might have well been on Mars for all the influence it had over the individual citizen. Today, almost everything one does is or has been influence by the government someway, somehow. Most of the responsibilities left to the state and/or the people have now moved to Washington with their one size fits all bureaucracies. We have become use to it and we expect it. The rugged individualism that built this country is long gone.

Agree 100 percent! It's the "frog in the water slowly coming to a boil" thing. However, I never worried until recently about DC being the enemy...drones spying on us, warrantless searches, incarceration without known reason, going around the Constitution to do what they want, etc. What the hell happened? And why did our State Governors give in to DC? Money promised for compliance with Fed rules? It can't last, because human nature desires to be free. Look at the coups taking place in other parts of the world while we seem to be heading in the opposite direction! Again I ask...what the hell happened? :( My question is rhetorical, but it deserves an answer.

I am suprised that you deny knowing what a Jew is.

Why would that surprise you? The label implies there should be a place called "Jewland", but since there isn't, we assume it refers to a religion... Judaism? The weird thing about that one is that if that were the case, it should be "Jewdaism", or "Juish". In the bible, the label is used to separate "God's" people from everybody else, leading many to conclude that the bible promotes racism, violence, and genocide.

When we hear about the holocaust, we know the Jews were the ones Hitler didn't like, and Hitler was all about racism - so we assume that the Jews are a human race. Still no cigar. For myself, a So. Cal. native, a "Jew" was a miserly penny pincher who never spent money, and I believe most of us who ever used the term in that context, was not referring to the group of people called the "Jews". We just didn't know any better. I'm still not clear on it. I'm going to research the origin of the word "Jewish" and see what it says.

That's just another label. I don't even know what a "jew" is. If it's not a nationality or race, what is it - a religion?

No, what I'm referring to is the apparent role of influence that Israel appears to have within the U.S. government itself. The levels of importance given to things like the needs of Israel, are certainly suspect. For example, one of the foremost issues in the 2012 US presidential debate (if not THE foremost issue) was whether or not the candidate would be in favor of fighting a war for Israel, a nation perfectly capable of defending itself (and with a more than adequate nuclear arsenal of its own), should Israel become involved in a war with Iran, EVEN WHEN IT WAS SPECULATED THAT TO DO SO WOULD MOST LIKELY TRIGGER A THIRD WORLD WAR.

I find that a little bizarre considering the fact that we are not Israel so why would the US government be so willing to throw American lives around where it is so unnecessary. Again, Israel's military is very capable. Israel plays us like a cheap violin but we let them. So one must ask, why?

I believe it was Hillary Clinton who said we must stand behind whatever Israel does because they are our "most trusted and dearest ally". Oh really? Tell that to one of the survivors of the USS Liberty attack. If you are familiar with the USS LIBERTY false flag operation, as well as the "dancing Israelis" and exploding truck bombs on 911, you'll find that both events were covered up extensively by the US government. This seems to indicate that Israel is our "go-to" guy for false flag ops....ah, now I get it..."most trusted and dearest ally", but not in a good way that serves the American people.

It was only a matter of time before zee Jooz were dragged into this abortion of a thread.

If you are that extraordinarily ignorant, you have no business discussing the subject at all.

It is obvious that you have been to plenty of hate sites, and are capable of parroting what you find there as would a child, but in order to dispell this incredible ignorance of yours, you need a real education and not conspiracy/hate sites.

I don't know what a "hate site" is, but, as evidenced by your hateful commentary, you apparently do. In claiming the "ignorance" is all on my part, you effectively reveal where the ignorance truly lies. It's obvious that, by the way you use the word "conspiracy", you're implying that those who see right through the media smokescreen, and are not so easily duped and susceptible to the (by now)
old, tired, and predictable methods of mass deception, are crazy, tinfoil hat wearing lunatics. So, let me try another approach. Since I'm crazy, I trust you can answer this simple hypothetical question:

Let's say the country you live in started to enact laws that undermined the most basic human rights, engaged in "power-grabs" all over the world, and increasingly ignored whether what they did was illegal or not. You, as a citizen, become concerned and after years of exhaustive research, you discover that the government is rogue, and that it did not happen overnight - that there is a mass conspiracy at work. Because the media is actively part of the conspiracy, a large percentage of the population are not aware of what is taking place. The media has been a vital tool and instrumental in seeing to it that anybody who points out a "conspiracy", is labeled a tinfoil hat-wearing fruitcake. So what do you do?

Now remember, the protagonist in this hypothetical story is correct and there is indeed a huge conspiracy of power and deceit. How ridiculous is it that the vast majority has fallen for the media deception that conspiracies don't exist and you are loony if you think otherwise? Think about that one. Get out of the fog. Wake up. Look up the word "conspiracy" - I guarantee you it will not say "something so unlikely to happen that if anybody says it does they are to be ridiculed so that noone else will say it again".

"The individual is handicapped by coming face to face with a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists.'' - J. Edgar Hoover

Eisenhower also warned us (below) about it. To my knowledge, he didn't wear a tinfoil hat.

(zee jooz -abortion of a thread- lol) I never mentioned the Jooz. The whole Joo thing started when I made reference to the fact that there is too much Israel and not enough United States in our government. Someone asked if I meant the Jooz - I said no, I meant Israel, I don't really know for certain what a Joo is. Then a debate ensued about a definition for Joo.

Of course you didn't. You're too afraid to be called a an antisemite so you hide behind Israel and conspiring Jew lobbies. I don't expect you to have the intellectual ability to actually deviate from your carefully crafted script explaining a fictional Israeli influence of the US government as negative.

What's your point? Are you saying that we should ignore the problem and it will go away? We'll just "get past" it somehow?

So they've actually enacted laws preventing you from treating illnesses like cancer? How is that possible?

I'm gonna go with liberty since there is so little terrorism that any terrorism that has occurred here in the US, they've had to manufacture.

Wait, what? The CT subforum is leaking?

I'm mean, I've heard of truthers. I even saw someone question the Ft. Hood shooting (~"it seemed weird and kinda staged on TV"), but the whole kit and kaboodle?! Holy mackeral! You can't be serious. McVeigh was a scapegoat? Who did it, the CIA or Mossad.

Who/what would you like to see replace that government?
