What Do You Think Of Sen. Cruz?

We were talking about civil matters not criminal ones, apples and oranges.

I see. You can take "bad folks" money with impunity just not lock them up or deport them. That is a nice "just us" system that you support. ;)

I know nothing of Cruz, but being a lawyer doing his job should not disqualify him from representing the people who elected him.

No one forced Cruz to represent them he chose the money over the principals. That's fine if you ONLY want to be a lawyer. When he became a candidate for a US senator and claimed he was going to be "tough on China" forgive me if I don't believe a single word he says.

You aren't even making any sense, when did I say you couldn't lock up or deport "bad folks"

Duh? The difference between civil (money damages only) and criminal (jail/prison and deporation) penalties. You asserted that denying legal council to foreigners was OK in civil cases. Do try to keep up. ;)

No I said that lawyers who have a choice should not defend them. You keep making up these crazy things about what I think and then attacking those positions.

Like this

You seem to like the fact that Obama uses a dreamy version of our immigration law

Just ridiculous

He's from Texas in the 2Ks, a land where pretty much everyone except those living in Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio voted Red. I'm sure that for them, he's totally fighting the "good fight". So...I guess, he's just doing his job.

The sooner the tea party dissipates, the better.
This Cruz character is too negative
I see little or no bias in the NY Times article.
Maybe the eligibility ages should be increased fro 35 to 55 .....Cruz strikes me as being childish, too childish.

No they should not offer counsel to "folks" from other countries who were actively trying to destroy our economy. Especially if they want to be a US senator.
Partial agreement...
IMO, the Chinese are NOT trying to destroy anything.
The man from China should be represented by another from his nation, NOT an "American".
In the eyes of justice, "bad" and "good" are NOT supposed to exist , until after the fact...

I would say that depends on your view of copyrights and intellectual property and how complicit/involved you think the Chinese govt is.

As for the good and bad you are right. However in this specific case the Chinese firm had already been found guilty. They just hired Cruz's firm to stall the judgement with appeals to quote "hold out until the tire designer ran out of money to continue the lawsuit or passed away"

He is a threat to the left so sadly they will trash him.

Kay Bailey Hutchison is also a lawyer. Cornyn was a lawyer before he was the Texas Supremes' head justice.

From Wiki Answers:

Out of a total of 435 U.S. Representatives and 100 Senators (535 total in Congress), lawyers comprise the biggest voting block of one type, making up 43% of Congress. Sixty percent of the U.S. Senate is lawyers.

Enough said. 37.2% of the House of Representatives are lawyers.

There are 81 Republican lawyers in Congress who list "lawyer" as their profession. There are 123 Democrat lawyers in Congress that list "lawyer" as their profession. Some may have not told that they had a law degree or practiced law, because they were doing something else, e.g., doctor, industrialist, teacher, real estate agent/broker, etc. It seems that the medical and real estate professions are also heavily represented in Congress.

What percentage of US congress members are lawyers

Makes sense. Lawyers handle legal work all the time, and congress and state legislature is the breeding place of laws.

The Jr. Senator from Texas is making quite a name for himself. Even the GOP is attacking him.

What do you think?

He is and up and coming star of the GOP and the dems fear him very much.

So far he seems like a potential rival of Rand Paul for the new face of the GOP.
