Would you let your son grow up to be a cowboy

Would you let your baby grow up to be a cowboy

I only know of one young man who tried it.....the pay sucked big time, and eventually he moved back to town where he could earn enough to support a family. The rancher seemed to think that the free housing (trailer house) and utilities should be enough to compensate for the very low pay.

Doctors and lawyers clearly.

I Loved the song! However I wont be a cowboy because its too much like work

Cowboys eat red meat 3 squares a day and traditionally have very low cholesterol.

I always thought cowboys are born, not trained to become one.

More to the point, how do you stop your child from being what's in their heart? And if you could, why would you want to?

sure, if my kid wanted to be a cowboy and play country guitar, i'd be cool with it. i'd encourage him to go to college anyway, though, so that he can always have a backup plan. plus, college communities often have thriving music scenes.

Doctors and lawyers. Who needs cowboys? Doctors will make their money treating lawyers, and lawyers will make their money suing doctors. And they will buy meat from Argentina.

Canadian beef is much better.

Nope. Besides, I'm proof that you don't have to be a cowboy to hold on for the full 8 seconds.

Only if he drifts through the south-west on horseback, slowly strumming a guitar to the tune of Guy Mitchells "Heartaches by the Number."

Of course I would. It's hard honest work.

Your poll doesn't have an accurate choice to pick. Cowboys are not what you are portraying them to be.

I live in Alabama. They're exactly what he is portraying them to be.

No, it's not at all. A cowboy is a ranch or farm-hand, not a guitar-picker in an old pickup truck.
He builds and repairs fences, feeds cows and horses, breaks horses, and is the general caretaker of an agricultural operation.

There's no rule that says it has to be that way, but I've noticed a strong correlation.

Cowboy is not synonymous with "redneck", but it's damn easy to confuse the two.

This is serious guys and please answer the poll

Sure, if that kind of life makes him happy, why not?

But I'd do my best to make sure first that he doesn't take this decision easily, or doesn't even know about other options he might have. But, once he knows what it means, and takes an educated, deliberate decision for that kind of lifestyle, I say: Go for it! :)

No, it's not easy to confuse the two. You guys are going by appearances and superficial stereotypes. Most men couldn't handle being a cowboy. It's too hard, and it's thankless work.

Well, crap. I was going to make a joke about the song and feel all clever about it, but that's what the thread was about all along.

Huh, just two weeks ago I watched La Cage aux rossignols for the frist time. Synchronicity, Herr Doktor Jung would say. Spooky.

As a 4rth Generation Texan I can say I've met my share of real cowboys and would be impressed if one of my kids tried to go that direction.

But Cowboys, "real Cowboys " are born, not made. Their priorities are centered in noble concepts and are fundamentally honest and hard working people.

Money is at the bottom of their list of priorities and they're as tough of a individual you will ever meet.

Most of my family are ranchers and cowboys (one of my cousins was recently on a popular cowboy magazine cover). Absolutely.

when you say cowboy, do you mean someone that's into modern country music? If so, then No~!!! I rather sire a few redheaded islamo-communists
