Why are there so few female mass murderers?

Why are there so few female mass murderers?

  • Total voters
    31
  • Poll closed .
You asked why there are fewer female mass murders then men. The difference between men and women is explained by biological factors. The difference between American men and say French men is explained by a lot of factors.

If the large number of mass murders are much higher for men than women in the US due just to biology, there would also be a large difference between men and women in other developed nations.

Actually, yes. The phenomena has only been observed in the Atlantic. This being off the cost of Virginia and Scotland.'

So that rules out a biological cause.

Also odd, this from the first article I posted.

It's clearly murder.

What is about the Atlantic ocean make this happen only there?

It is a fact that women live longer than men.
That's mainly do to occupational choices. More men are getting shot in military service or injured/killed in construction/machinist trades than women.

My wild ass guess to why more men than women commit mass murders: More boys are probably diagnosed with ADD/ADHD when in fact they're just normal boys, the liberal education system wants everyone to sit quiet for 6/8 hours per day and boys just aren't about that, while girls are...so boys become disruptive...then they're put on SSRIs, riddlin, etc, and the drug pushes them over the edge.

Solution: Since boys and girls think, learn and act differently, educate grade-school boys and girls in separate home-rooms.

So that rules out a biological cause.

We don't know if it is only being observed there or if the killing only occurs there. Let's say, it only occurs there. I'd guess then that the issue is overcrowding and a shortage of food, being that the North Atlantic is over-fished and a relatively small body of water. But, I'm just guessing.

I think men would have a more violent demeanor on average and that may fuel the reason why more mass shooters happen to be men.

Why do you think men's violent demeanor is so much greater than women in the US as compared to other developed nations when it comes to intentional homicides, digsbe?

Well, if you could find me a country that has close to a 50/50 split between men and women mass murderers, then I would be able to consider your argument.

Like I said, do you know of a country in which women have more of a violent demeanor then men?

That doesn't make any sense.

It's not that women in other developed countries commit more intentional homicides than men that makes the US ratio so strikingly different. It is that US males commit way more more intentional homicides than in other developed countries compared to women.

I'm willing to bet that you'd be hard pressed to find a single country where the ratio is less then 75% men.

Most mass murderer's world wide are male -

"The collection of general statistics and characteristics about mass murderers is informative. We find that the mass murderer is almost always male"

Profiling Mass Murderers

The killers:
"Half of the cases involved school or workplace shootings (12 and 19, respectively); the other 31 cases took place in locations including shopping malls, restaurants, and religious and government buildings. Forty four of the killers were white males. Only one of them was a woman. (See Goleta, Calif., in 2006.) The average age of the killers was 35, though the youngest among them was a mere 11 years old. (See Jonesboro, Ark., in 1998.) A majority were mentally ill—and many displayed signs of it before setting out to kill. Explore the map for further details—we do not consider it to be all-inclusive, but based on the criteria we used we believe that we've produced the most comprehensive rundown available on this particular type of violence. (Mass shootings represent only a sliver of America's overall gun violence.) For a timeline listing all the cases on the map, including photos of the killers, jump to page 2. For the stories of the 151 shooting rampage victims of 2012, click here, and for all of MoJo's year-long investigation into gun laws and mass shootings, click here."

But for some reason, there are way more mass murders in the US than other developed nation:

"As a 2011 United Nations report notes, America has a “relatively high homicide rate compared to other countries with a similar socio-economic level,”

"For 15-year olds to 24-year olds, firearm homicide rates in the United States were 42.7 times higher than in the other countries.”

Now, the question is why?

You literally just proved my entire point. The vast majority of all murderers are male, no matter where we are talking about. If you want to know why males commit more murders than women regardless of location, its because of biology.

If you want to know why the America has a higher murder rate then other countries, you have to look at things like the prevalance of street gangs, influence of drugs, our culture etc. etc.

But your question was male murderers vs female murderers, and I explained to you why nearly all murderers are male regardless of geography.

It's not that women in other developed countries commit more intentional homicides than men that makes the US ratio so strikingly different. It is that US males commit way more more intentional homicides than in other developed countries compared to women.

I don't think it's that women are less prone to violent feelings and ill intent towards others - I think how we carry it out and respond to our feelings is different. Look at the main motive for murders when it comes to serial killers: lust and the thrill - a large number are directly related to rape. Sexual pleasure. If you removed *that* alone it evens things out significantly - women don't kill amid sexual gratification. (for the reverse consideration - likely over 90% of falsely accused rape-crimes are filed by women . . . not for sexual gratification - but for another gratification altogether; to destroy another person's life by any means possible)

Murder is extreme behavior - yet spite the fact that people want to believe women are more prone to love and nurturing: women are more likely to physically abuse and murder their own offspring.

Abuse stats for 2011:
Child Maltreatment | Children's Bureau | Administration for Children and Families
Four-fifths (84.6%) of unique perpetrators were between the ages of 20 and 49 years.
More than one *half (53.6%) of perpetrators were women, 45.1 percent of perpetrators were men,
and 1.3 percent were of unknown sex.
Four-fifths (80.8%) of duplicated perpetrators were parents.
Of the duplicated perpetrators who were parents, 87.6 percent were the biological parents.

Fatalities as a result for 2011:
Examining this category reveals that the child’s mother acting alone perpetrated more than one-fifth (26.4%) and both parents were responsible for one-fifth (22.0%) of child fatalities

By far - more mothers have murdered their children in the last 100 years than those who were deemed to be serial killers from the US - a considerably higher amount, truly.

Your basing your view alone on this belief regarding serial killers - though murder is an extreme to do once . . . let alone multiple times.

Instead - considering the frequency of child abuse - and the higher rate of fatalities as a result in contrast - I think it shows that women, being in the position of a childcare provider by default, aren't necessarily better equipped to handle it all on an emotional level. Maybe most are - but a large number are not when it comes down to the negative and sad results.

Oh that was your point? I wondered what the hell you were talking about! I stated that many pages ago. You should have just read the thread, or at the very least, glanced up at the thread title.

Other countries also have those things so that's not it.

What is different here? More guns? Or hegemonic masculinity?

From above:

" Hamamoto (2002)
argues that the United States produce most of the world’s mass
murderers because of a “blow back” by civilians scripting
violence in a hyper-militarised America which started with the
increasing military adventures after World War II. Research on
mass murder is relatively limited when compared to other
forms of multiple homicide (Bowers, et al, 2010), yet several
authors have identified descriptive characteristics, patterns, and
typologies that differentiate mass murder from other forms of
multiple murder and from murder in general."

(Fox & Levin,2012, Bowers, et al, 2010, Bartol & Bartol, 2011)

Because we're not them - and they are not us.

And of course - all such statistics rule out areas that are steeped in undeniable unrest: counties in South America and the Middle East, for example, are amid serious upheaval . . . and it's not all war related.

Stats on an international basis are incomplete and thus unreliable. . . how many murders were committed - outside of declarations of national war (military) - within Mexico alone in the last year? Ten years?

People want to claim the US is most heinously violent - but considering the troubles in other countires that are persistent: it's inaccurate, to say the least.

Such statistics also present reported and cataloged crimes - many countries don't have the means to catalog and follow up on each one that occurs.

Comparing us to the 'rest of the world' is really only comparing us to 'countries who maintain a solid database' like we do.

If you take the time to check you will find that the US intentional homicide rates are far greater than other wealthy nations. Or, just look further back in the thread where I have already documented this. I'm not talking about wars and military skirmishes, I'm talking civilian homicides among first world nations.

The US is alone among first world nations that still think more guns = less gun violence.
