And who determines whether that freedom has been "earned?"

Based on the Duties and Responsibilities of a Citizen which should be outlined in the Constitution.

You did not answer my question, "Who determines whether that freedom has been earned?"

Those who re-write the Constitution to correct its flaws. I would suggest that means those of us willing to make those changes.

And who decides who gets to re-write the Constitution? Just because someone is willing to make the change doesn't mean they "earned" the freedom to do so.

Those changes aren't going to come based on elections, but on Revolution. I would suggest that sort of change does earn a group the right to rewrite the rules.

So really, it has nothing to do with "earning the privilege" but who can exert the most force.

True Power emanates from the end of a weapon and always has. That's just a fact of life.

NO
Its the people unified.
The non violent movements here (Martin L King) and Gandhi in India counter this...also, I believe in the downfall of Communism.

I see that nearly 90% of the people here favor the end to the harassment of Cuba, yet our Congress sits and does nothing..

Should the United States end it's trade embargo and travel ban with Cuba? Why or why not?
Yes, because Castro's regime will soon be dead and with the travel ban and trade embargo lifted, Communism will soon die with him_

Keep the travel ban it's a place Canadians can go without Americans.
If this is their true sentiments then why do so many vacation in the US every year?

Canadians are easy to spot because like the French, they have a very rude nature_

So if I show enough "power" I will be granted the "privilege" of freedom?

Cuba is at a crossroads. The Cold War is over, Fidel is out of power, and his brother is making some reforms. This change needs to be encouraged, not burdened with a useless embargo. In fact, the embargo has been worse than useless. In closing off the Cuban economy, Havana has been able to portray the US as a villain intent on destroying Cuba. Without the travel and trade restrictions, this boogeyman begins to look a lot less credible. The US and Cuba have a lot of potential ties and possible gains from trade. Cuba could provide a great deal of sugar and other crops. Trade and closer ties to Cuba could also help America nudge Cuba toward greater reform and liberalization. There is simply no good reason to block trade and travel with Cuba.

Even if one believes that Castro and the Communists are evil, they should still oppose the restrictions. Closing off regimes to the outside world does not encourage liberalization. It encourages inward-looking policies and greater inertia. I hate Castro and Communism, but fueling petty hatred, which is all the embargo manages to accomplish for us, is not an effective foreign policy strategy. The best strategy for encouraging change in Cuba is to foster closer ties, and raise the standard of living with trade. Once Cubans are no longer living in poverty or told to fear the "Colossus to the North" they will start to ask more questions of and demand more reform from their government.

So when the revolution inevitably gets crushed, because not enough people want to go back to the 17th century for you to put together a respectable rebellion, what do you do?

Another man said the same thing: "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun." Mao Zedong
Like all socialists/marxists/communists, after the revolution they ensure that power by making it exclusively theirs_

Evil tyrants are methodical geniuses at usurping power and protecting it from the masses who become disillusioned_

I die and leave this wretched cesspool of Hell to you folks who deserve nothing more than it.

Again did you read anything after my post, learn to take a joke. Canadians are known for being some of the nicest people in the world.

This certainly hasn't been my experience with them. Maybe I've just met the wrong Canadians, but to call the ones I have met aggressive, rude, and anti-American would be an understatement.

In response to the OP, yes, the embargo should be lifted. However, it's never going to happen so long as the the anti-Communist Cuban-American community in South Florida remain essential to taking the state in general elections.

I'll be watching the headlines.

Ooupsy-daisy! :giggle1:

If you say so but many don't seem to care much for Americans_

It's true we don't because we don't like arrogant nations, most of your leaders haven't helped that image especially George W. Bush who we despise.

You have clearly never met our border guards, some of the nicest people I've ever seen. Did they speak French by any chance?
