Should the United States end it's trade embargo and travel ban with Cuba?

See Americans can't take a joke, it's always insulting to the United States. When we travel we like to wear Canadian things because we are treated far better than Americans depending on where we go.

You're confusing Ray with "people" and "Americans". Using Ray as a poster boy or generalization for either is as ignorant as portraying all Canadians as stoopid beer swilling drunks.

I expect it from Ray. What's your excuse?

I see that joke was also missed. The second part of my post is true though, it's because of people like him.

yes, because it has become pointless and counterproductive.

American culture has a lot better chance of changing Cuba than an embargo does.

Maybe you should learn how to joke better. For instance, in your first comment you could have said "ugly Americans", everyone would have known what you meant because even Americans have seen ugly Americans on vacation, but it is a small minority.

Really everyone, I seen it as a joke when he first said it. I really dont think we want an international incident today. No border wars. Back to the topic, Cuba.

I've known dozens of Canadians and for the most part the are honest, intelligent people. But a few have such an inferiority complex about the US they just can't wait to get a few ad hominum pokes in wherever they can.

I call them ugly Canadians.

Yes, it would be the biggest humanitarian thing we could do for the people of Cuba.

and I want to see all the 57 Chevys running around and if that is really true.

Let's look at who we've embargoed recently and why:

1) Cuba because of the commies.
2) Iran because of the ayatollahs.

Neither of which has succeeded at acheiving their purpose.

With carbs made from coffee cans......

It's offfensive that some clown would deliberately try to insult the United States like this.

We often see that attitude with countries that wouldn't even exist if it were not for the enormous power and might of the United States. Power combined with the willingness of American soldiers to die on foreign soil fighting for the freedom of complete strangers. No other country or people in the entire world has so many of their children buried in forgotten foreign battlefield cemeteries.

For no discernible reason, fruitcakes like this lack gratitude and develop a superior, holier than thou attitude. Like offensive teenagers.

Perhaps a Canadian sees an Imperialistic USA that pretends to be the world's policeman for reasons of hegemony and invades Nations to secure natural resources. Many times USA soldiers have died for the big OIL businesses. USA soldiers have died for rum, sugar and gambling interests. As the White, Christian imperialists have marched westrward, the ignorant have cheered. Bliss, don't ya' know.

We embargoed Japan and that is what precipitated WWII. What do you mean they don't work? It was the only way to get the Japanese to attack us.. Now in Cuba the embargo has certainly reduced the flow of those nasty Cuban cigars. Let's see. We stole Cuba from Spain under false pretenses. After we got our banks, rum makers, mafia, and associated US businesses up and running good, we put Fulgencia Batista in charge to keep the pissants in peasantry and then a rebel from the wealthy families overthrows the dictatorship that we installed to help the peasants and you know you can't get away with that. We likes our dictators and scumbags and our media is gonna say good things about them and you shouldn't be a rockin' dat boat, don't ya' know? We been stompin' on the poor of Cuba with the embargo since our scumbag, Batista, was overthrown. Have I missed something? Did we ever do anything good for Cuba? Ever?

One of the incredibly damaging things to America that has been on the Liberal agenda for the past thirty years is devaluation and disrespect of America. College professors teach the students sarcasm and ridicule of the United States. To even mention something good America has done brings instant rebuttal from liberals like you. To you, there is No Good to the United States, it is bad, bad, bad and you stand ready to prove it with instant facts at your fingertips.

Foreigners see this internal constant hate and ridicule of the United States and they are happy to take up the chant. They see America haters like Obama go down to the Southern border and make jokes about the United States to laughing Mexicans and they think Hell, the damn president doesn't even respect that worthless country.

So I have no doubt that Observer92 actually believed that it was completely acceptable to insult the United States and everyone would think it was funny. That is Liberalism, kneejerk ridicule and laughter at the United States with an expectation that everyone will applaud. That is the danger of thinking that the liberal fruitcakes actually speak for Americans. They are evil, freakish people that are regarded as mentally ill.

Maybe the far right wing is just bascially insecure?

I went to school for years and now teach at 2 universities. I dont think, right off hand, I ever heard a professor be disrespectful to the US. Dont get me wrong, I am sure it happens and often professors say whacky things to stimulate thought...well nevermind about that but Professors cannot indoctrinate studnets, it is difficult enough getting your subject matter through to them. This I think comes from the same place all the benefits for illegal immigrants, the imagination of the far right. On another forum I used to hang out on one day I signed on and the fastest growing thread was about the guy at Lowes that turns the Spanish out on all the boxes. They were furious. At first I thought they were kidding. No, the were dead serious they turly bleived there was some guy that was suppose to turn the Spanish out, the guy that brought it up even stated where he lived he almost never even seen a Mexican, I think he was in New Hampshire. My point is I am sure we can all see the absurdity in that just to, I guess, make us "good Americans" uncomfortable or something. If Americans are ridiculed by anyone overseas it is because of the small mindedness of a small but powerful and vocal minority. It is quite embaressing sometimes.

Observer did not realize the calibre of American he was talking to.

You're right and I back it up with facts. I guess you would prefer to dwell in the Media generated fantasyland, but I'm afraid reality is omnipresent. I know that you will picture yourself a big patriot for accepting the media generated fantasyland. Us evil, freakish people have to be satisfied trying to defend truth, freedom, liberty, justice, etc., instead of being proud of getting more OIL into an Exxon/Mobil pipeline or tanker, or stoppin' the flow o' dem Cuban cigars and adopting a policy that makes the plight of the poor in Cuba worse. Yeh, geet dose po' peoples befo' they multiply. I mean, in reality, what else could we be doing with this embargo. Who are we punishing? We punished them so bad in Cuba that they have the best medical care in the Western hemisphere and they learned to develop an economy without CORPORATIONS. Now that's progress, against all odds, and an embargol.

Nope. Not until they give up on Communism. Then again, I'd implement the same restrictions to other socialist/communist countries like China, Canada, and most of Europe.

Your totalitarian ideas are duly noted sir.

Not until the day Castro dies. Really, for whatever reasons, good or bad, we've kept it going for this long, that sounds like the perfect place to draw the line.

He already is so fragile that he can't run his country. It makes no sense to keep the embargo and travel ban. Aren't we a free country? Shouldn't we have the right to say where we want to go? That is the essence of freedom. I don't give two cents if my government doesn't like it. They can warn the citizens to not travel there, but downright ban? That is asinine to do in a so-called free country.

Okay, that's fine. We'll lift the travel ban TO Cuba. However, we'll maintain the travel ban back FROM Cuba. How's that work for you?

Then it should be a short wait until he's dead and gone. As for the freedom of travel, if it were a restriction within the US I might agree with you, but this is not that.

If that's what you want to do....all that would really do is inconvenience people enough to get a connecting flight somewhere.

Either way...travel bans go against the idea of freedom. The government should warn folks going into countries where they maybe harmed by that government....just on the warning state "We do not advise any American to travel to (whatever country). If you choose to, and are captured by any forces...the risks are on yours to carry."

Maybe. There are other ways we could deal with that, but at least it would cost them more time/money to get back.

Remember that not all of us believe in Freedom the same way that you do.
