is turkey worthless ?

I would not describe Turkey as worthless as long as it remains secular, but there is a legitimate question as to how relevant it may be in the current conflicts occuring in the area.

thx for voting .))

I think that there have been times when Turkey has been a strong ally to the United States and other times when it hasn't. For example, Turkey did not support us during the Iraq war. Also, I don't think that Turkey approves of our relationship with Israel a lot of times.

However, most of us are capable of understanding that this does not reflect on the citizens of Turkey. This stuff about "foreign relations" is mostly between governments.

Turkey is the drunk girl at America's frat. We enter her when we want, for whatever reason we want. She shuts the hell up and takes it.

As of recently (the past several years), the relationship between Israel and Turkey has been cold to say the least. I guess technically they are still "allies."

"The Turkish government's condemnation of the 2008–2009 Israel–Gaza conflict strained relations between the two countries.[22][23] In December 1987, Turkey had already declared support for the Palestinians' right to self-determination. In 2004, Turkey had denounced Israeli assassination of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. It described Israeli policy in the Gaza Strip as "state-sponsored terrorism".[2][3][24][25] There were demonstrations across Turkey against Israeli actions in Gaza."[26][27]

No, I would say that this more accurately reflects on the feelings of the citizens of Turkey:

TURKEY - Perception of US becomes more negative in Turkey

Are they our Ally? Uh, what day is it?

If Hungry attacked Turkey from the rear, would Greece help?

:lamo Sorry Medusa, but that was funny! :lamo

I really don't know enough about Turkey to know where they stand on the US. Not trying to be rude, but honest. It's not as though Turkey is really in the headlines, and I wouldn't know if they were, since I don't care to watch television, or listen to the radio.

1. You obviously use the internet for news, so the "no TV, no radio, no info" thing is kinda dumb.
2. Turkey is in NATO.
3. Turkey allows US soldiers to operate patriot missiles from Turkish land.
4. Turkey allows US use of its airspace (and perhaps even military bases/airfields, I don't recall exactly).

How could you know anything about the mideast and not know the basic standing of the US and Turkey?

Ok, maybe you don't know anything about the topic, do you go to every thread of which you are totally ignorant and announce such?

I think that probably reflects the feelings of some citizens of Turkey, but certainly not all of them. Polls aren't always so accurate.

Yeah, that's what Mitt Romney kept saying.

Turkey has been supportive of Kenya, then the African Union and finally the UN's efforts to oust al shabab from Somalia and bring in a democratic transitional government.

I agree, I am however perplexed as to why would they be attempting to ship arms to North Africa on a ship that was supposed to be loaded with cement.

Maybe I'm trying to get information on a topic where there is very little information outside of useless statistics and official affiliations from the OP, you know, the person I actually addressed. If you're not going to give me any information, then you are have absolutely no value to me in this conversation, so piss off.

Dirty work for NATO? We kept our (rather direct in some cases) support of the Kenyan/AU/UN invasion of Somalia rather quiet. There were Kenyan troops, with US ranger tabs, sporting humvees, kevlar helmets and other gear. US drones were used from Kenyan air bases. Yet, I never heard anything about directly supplying Kenya and I never saw any discussion of US field hospitals and medical evacs accounting for the obviously impossible casualty rate (for a developing country) that the Kenyans suffered during the blitzkreig against al shabab.

Did you miss points 1 through 4 in my post above? Did you read the thread?

It's like you're not even trying. :(

I gave it up when I became a vegetarian. It's not as healthy as it's made out to be.

I read them, I just don't care.

But they have info and you are desperate.

Do you always rudely insult people who weren't even talking to you?

I didn't insult you. I just questioned why anyone would come into a thread to announce their extreme ignorance and blame it on not having a TV or radio (while posting on a political debate website). That's a legit question.
