If we attack Iran, they will close the strait of Hormuz is retaliation. Re-opening the strait would require a ground invasion and occupation.

By who?

What for?

Time will only tell. But eventually, somebody will open a can of whup ass on Iran, if not from within.

Nitpick.

Reopening the strait and keeping it open and safe for transport would require a ground invasion and occupation.

We could dredge/blow up the blockages, but until we get rid of everything capable of launching anti-ship missiles from the Iranian side, it won't be safe to move through.

**** Iran. Those sand eating bastards used to bird dog us with their "trawlers" and send their cutesy little aluminum Navy by, shooting the paint off our hulls. I remember the hostage days like yesterday. I still haven't got past that. Nuke 'em I say.

If NK has nukes, then Iran will have nukes and they will both be unattackable. Despite glorious visions of "turning them into glass", there are too many consequences and too little courage.

The question is more like will Iran (or NK) attack Israel or South Korea and just what would the US do about it (other than writing sternly worded protests to the UN)? My guess, not much.
