Yes, it's just that clean shaven (except side burns) just looks more trustworthy, you can't change that until we start electing more people with beards.
 
No more Rutherford B. Hayes's. What an injustice we suffer in modernity.
 
Today, a full beard would most likely signify membership in a religious minority, like the Amish or Mennonite Brethren, Shi'a Islam, Fundamentalist Mormonism, and so on. None of these minority groups are likely to win a national election any time soon.

Nobody said a candidate cant have a beard, I'm sure appearances dont matter to most people anymore.
