What Should The Drinking Age Be?

18. You are old enough to buy tobacco, vote, enter into a contract, and go off to war. If you are an adult to do any of those things, I don't see why you should not be old enough to drink.

18. If you are a legal adult, can die for your country and can cast a vote to determine the future of your country, you should be legally able to enjoy a beer.

What age do you think people should be able to drink.
How about the same age people should be able to start wearing condoms: 10 or 11, perhaps?

Physiologically...probably not until the adolescent brain has fully developed...somewhere in the 24-26 year old category for men, 20-22 for women. Lots of research indicates excessive alcohol consumption can have a permanent impact on the development of several areas of the brain. Realistically...probably the age at which society has labeled them an 'adult'...18. They might as well begin being responsible for their actions and choices (as well as being held responsible for the consequences).

This.

The average human brain does not fully develop until the early to mid 20s. Unfortunately, the last part of the brain to develop is the part that controls abstract thinking, and understanding of reason and consequence.

Seems weird to give booze to a kid that doesn't fully understand right and wrong yet, and can't perceive the possibilities of getting sloshed and getting behind a two thousand pound machine going 70 miles per hour.

the drinking age should be the age of adulthood. if it's 18, then 18. if 21, then 21. what makes no sense is labeling 18 year olds as adults and then arresting them as minors if they drink.

is an 18 year old an adult? the older i get, the less i think so. i know that i sure as **** wasn't. the prefrontal cortex isn't fully developed until mid 20s. i think my own took longer than that, and i didn't really enjoy drinking until i was almost 24. however, if an 18 year old can go to jail or go to war, i find it hard to argue that he shouldn't be able to buy a beer. if i had my preference, i'd raise the age of adulthood to 21, though. at least then it would be a little more accurate of a descriptor for modern times.

14, with a driving age of 18.

The drinking age of North Korea is 17, another reason to lower the drinking age in many countries.
