Time magazine has named President Barack Obama as its 2012 Person of the Year.

"We are in the midst of historic cultural and demographic changes," Time managing editor Richard Stengel said in announcing its choice. "And Obama is both the symbol and in some ways the architect of this new America."

The president's reelection in November showed "the Obama effect was not ephemeral anymore, no longer reducible to what had once been mocked as that 'hopey-changey stuff,'" Time's Michael Scherer wrote in the accompanying cover story. "It could be measured in wars stopped and started; industries saved, restructured or reregulated; tax cuts extended; debt levels inflated; terrorists killed; the health-insurance system reimagined; and gay service members who could walk in uniform with their partners. It could be seen in the new faces who waited hours to vote and in the new ways campaigns are run. America debated and decided this year: history would not record Obama’s presidency as a fluke."

The cover features a silver border--just the fourth time in Time's 89-year-history the magazine was published without its trademark red. Time.com also published a slideshow featuring "never-before-seen images of the Obama presidency" from Election Night to Newtown.

Earlier this month, the magazine's online readers voted for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as their choice for Person of the Year in what Time called a "completely unscientific" poll.

The Person of the Year, instituted in 1927, is "bestowed by the editors on the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year." Obama was chosen as the 2008 Person of the Year following his historic election.....snip~

With all this Leading From Behind and avoiding issues. One can see just how Bias Time's Editor has become. Myself I think they Should have gave it to the Pakistani Girl who Got Shot in her Face For Trying to Learn.

Jesus, they are sucking him way too hard. Someone should tell the editor that Obama is not gay.

Seriously, could they butter up a turd any more?

Well... it is not like we didn't see something like this coming. Now all we need is the Nobel institution to give him a second Nobel Peace Prize and history will repeat itself.

Jeez Louise, piled high and deep.

I thought it was funny for Time Mag to say the Poll over Kim Jong Un was "completely unscientific".....course if they would have to put it thru Twitter than we could have seen if Obama could have actually beaten The Korean Leader.

Well did anyone think ABC and Time Mag. wouldn't take the chance to try and pump up Obama as having a successful Presidency. Anything to change historical facts, now.

I remember "Man of the Year", and then political correctness took over.
Our President should be "Man of the Year".
And then we should have a "Woman of the Year".
"person" is so blah....so neutral
There is a difference between the two...

From the mouth of a child...with years of hatred pumped into him....

There's a whole lot of butt hurt over something not that important

Nothing positive...all negative...if not our President, then who ?

I dont know. As far as "interesting" goes.. No.
But i think the award is more awarding for the Syrian Rebels, or Assad himself, or maybe Kim Jong-Un. (IMO of course)

The man defied historical precedents and won despite having a 24/7/365 media and political machine out to destroy him before he ever took the oath of office.

Damn right he should be man of the year.

I don't think its supposed to be an honor necessarily. Stalin and Hitler both won the award after all. It's supposed to go to the more influential person of the year, and good president or not, (generally not IMO), its hard for me to come up with a single person more influential worldwide than Obama.

Well to be fair he did have a 24/7/365 media and a political machine out to help him get re-elected too. So no matter what, somebody was going to overcome that.

What complete and utter dog ****... no offence to dog ****.

This "Award" is perhaps more stupid than the Nobel Peace Prize.

For Christ's sake people, TIME awards it to people who've had the most affect in the world, not whose the greatest.

Stalin won it twice, Hitler and Yasser Arafat also won. That let's you know the value of that award.

Given the criterion listed, Obama seems like a reasonable choice. Seems many have a fundamental misunderstanding of the title itself.

Person of the Year (formerly Man of the Year) is an annual issue of the United States newsmagazine Time that features and profiles a person, group, idea or object that "for better or for worse, ...has done the most to influence the events of the year."[1]

EDIT: Repetitive, several posters beat me to the punch..

Then why didn't Osama Bin Laden win it in 2001?

Time is going down, just like Newsweek.

Nobody really cares who they pick, do they? Once a publication becomes liberal sewage, they always go broke. Where I live, the local Gannett rag has become kind of a recipe book with pictures of good looking girls at parties that are held at bars throughout town.

Then why didn't Osama Bin Laden win it in 2001?

Because more people thought that Rudolph Giuliani response was better than Bin Laden's.

Don't believe me? They said it themselves: "for better or for worse, ...has done the most to influence the events of the year"

You apparently do not understand the significance of the award and the criteria used in its selection.

It is not the response... it is the most influence. Bin Laden's influence on THE WORLD far exceeded that of Guliani. FAR EXCEEDED.

The award has no significance and the criteria used to award it is proof of that...
