How many Obamaphones do you have?

I have heard that the Obamaphone lady on YouTube goes to the welfare office on a regular basis and gets as many as 5 or 6 a day. However, I cannot verify it.

You mean dubyaphones? Or maybe reaganphones?

The Myth of the 'Obama Phone' - ABC News

But as The New York Times notes in an editorial, the Obama administration does not pass out free phones for votes. There is a national program that provides low-income people with free or discounted phones, but it was started under George W. Bush, Obama's Republican predecessor.

And the idea for subsidized phone service, notes liberal blog Think Progress, originated under the Ronald Reagan administration after the breakup of AT&T. The program is paid for by telecommunications companies through the nonprofit Universal Service Administrative Company, not through taxpayer revenue.

Over 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gimme a call and I will tell you. It only costs 2 dollars a minute conveniently billed to your phone.

1) Obamaphones are given out by private companies. The government does not give out phones. It is a trick used to get people to sign up with that company.
2) The government does provide a discount for phone service including cellular, which was an extension of a Reagan program, extended under Bush. Under Obama it has since been limited to one discount per household. This was because the Bush expansion of the program had no controls or monitoring and the cost was skyrocketing.
3) All of this is easy to factcheck, and there are a number of threads on it. Best to fact check before posting. Let me google that for you

How many people don't care?

That would be a more successful poll question.

No Obama phones but I have some Wendell Wilke buttons. Does that count

Even kids have them

2 hands, 2 ears, 2 Obamaphones.

It's only natural.

I strap on to my butt so my farting can become the latest hot dubstep song. They have microphones and all. Plus if I sit on it and break it, who care's its free from the government.

Break away! There are over 100,000 Obamaphone shipping containers from China just waiting to be unloaded.

Good luck on the dubstep!

I just need to tell you, I spit out my water because I was laughing so hard at this. :applaud:applaud

I assume an "obamaphone" is a free phone. Noibody here has one. So do they exist?

My ex-wife has a discounted low-income home phone. It's not free - it's $14 a month and it is limited to one per household. I pay the bill and the application must be renewed periodically. I forgot about that and got her bill for almost $50. Her income is $900 per month from SS. This already cost her Medicaid and for all I know, her "not so free" phone will be gone in the future.

So, anybody know ACTUALLY about "free phones"?

Megaprogman is correct. Its Bush that signed it into existence.

Epic Fail of a poll.

No, that is not right. Reagan signed a law creating a program to help people with their phone bill. Bush expanded the program to help pay for cellular service. None of them created a program that gives out phones. Private companies are giving our phones to entice people to sign up with them. The government has nothing to do with that. Under Obama cost cutting measures where put in place for the program itself, and yet still conservatives blame him for the program and make **** up about the government giving out phones.

That is just the conservative and libertarian view of what America has become. Like most of their views, it has nothing to do with reality. I wonder why you guys hate America so much?
