Was the "Satanic panic" of the 1980s/early 1990s a legitimate concern?

reminds me of the Salem witch trials.

Good thing we learned from that first mistake otherwise this could have been way worse.

One good thing came out of it for rock and roll fans.

Those of which would be selected a priory based on search engine results first though.

Ok, could you open up a thread about whether Wiki is credible? Otherwise us debating that here will only hijack the thread.

You brought it up.

I have no desire to argue whether Wiki is credible. No source of information necessarily is, and that goes for scientific publications. You have to view everything with a critical eye and check the references. Posting a youtube video or a mainstream media source in the OP would not have been any more credible necessarily.

Well, if you consider anything that opposes Christianity, then I'd have to say every decade is a legitimate concern.

Words cannot express my contempt for the people involved in that stupidity. The public may be a bunch of mouthbreathing subhuman idiots who might believe in mass satanic conspiracy, its absurd that our courts would lap up such bull****. I was appalled by the credibility given to birthers and truthers, but it seems that our modern lunacy pales in comparison.

We have had some real life villians that very much fit the bill...Charles Manson is just one of many...however, I dont like witchhunts myself.

Sounds no different than the "new world order" dummies, who are mostly the remnants of the anti-satanism crowd. At least now they're viewed as the morons they truly are. So, there is still some hope.

Any documentary, News report, etc., found in Youtube and perhaps other sites would do. This is a well known topic, you should see how I struggle to find other sites except Wikipedia when a topic is less known :)

Ohhhh yeah. Those a MUCH better. :crazy3:

I hear you. It went from mouthbreathers to bottom feeders as millions actually re-elected a incompetent community activist as President.

Yes our Country's cumalitve IQ dropped 50 points in November 2012 as useful idiots bought into nonsense like " tax the rich " and " the Republicans causes this " .

So we've been defined by our least common denominators but what can you do ?

Public education has dumbed down our kids as fairness is prioroitized over content.

Oh and in response to the OP....satan ?

Really ? Far more lives have been ruined by the leftist agenda that has put more people on Government dependance than any one President before it

yes and its sad the lamestream media doesnt bother reporting on it most of the music videos are satanic illuminati coded messeges and harry potter is satanism trying to get into your heart think about it we took prayer out of schools and now satan is winning

The bigger question is who cares? Oh no, symbols and imaginary "coded messages". What ever will we do in the face of this horrifically laughable non-issue?

Grammar and punctuation are your friend. Just sayin'.

I wouldn't exactly call that a good thing...

That's how people got over it in the 1990s - adopting the vestigal trappings of "Satanism" and throwing it in the faces of the 'Moral Majority', just as people did in the early 19th century with the Anti-Masons.

It's emblematic of an attitude of rebellion with absolutely no cause that you just don't have circulating in the mass culture fifteen years later. There's no interest in pushing things to an extreme anymore.

His "music" still sucks.

His "music" still sucks.

That's fine. But Manson, together with Nine Inch Nails and a very few other bands from the 1990s, pushed the acceptable image of popular music to an extreme it's never quite reached again, and I think that's important. Obviously underground metal and punk groups had gone further earlier, but these were big-name, superstar level acts.
