And what series of events would need to occur for such a government to come into existence?

It is very unlikely too many turf issues to resolve. If there was something like a pandemic event and the population was severly dipleted then maybe but I still doubt it.

Maybe we might get to the point of continental governments but that too is a crap shot.

One sixth of the worlds population live under one government, so why not one day?

Do i think it will happen any time soon? No I do not. Do I think it will happen entirely peacefully? No. I can see the potential of it happening however.

I do not think a global government could arise militarily. I think it would have to happen voluntarily, which IMO would require a global calamity the like of which we have never seen, something that truly threatens the existence of humanity. An event like that seems bound to happen eventually. But even then, a temporary joint effort seems more likely, rather than any kind of actual surrender of autonomy. So I think it is very unlikely.

I think if the human race survives long enough we'll eventually see global governments on other planets/moons though.

As a Christian I believe that in the End Times there will be a global leader (the Antichrist). So I do believe that a global government may happen.

Armageddon is the end of the world yes?

Maybe a small one.

Not the end of the world per se, the biblical final battle between Yahweh and Satan when 1/3 of the people on earth die, including all the Jews except for 100k who accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Then Jesus sets up his 1000 year global gubmint on earth.

All lot of christians are getting their ducks in order for that one. They want a good spot in line.

So we have Americans talking secession but we think we are gonna get along with the Sri Lankans enough to have a government with them? LOL.

I said probably not, but I think the Chinese may have this plan. The Chinese are so unlike the American (consumer) they will gladly take 100 to 200 years to accomplish their goal. The current Chinese leadership may not have such a dream, but then they don't seem to mind working towards it.

Even if a mass dying occurred there would still be folks who don't want to be part of the larger group.

I can see something to the effect of the European Union, Asian Union, North American Union, South American Union, African Union.. and possibly partnerships between them, however a single global gov't probably isn't in the best interests of anyone, and would be extremely difficult to deal with.

There is already gridlock among American gov't, and we are only around 310million people. Imagine +6 billion people all with different religions/cultures/ideologies/social structures/wealth trying to be governed under one.. It would be a massive undertaking that I just don't see possible.

It's almost inevitable (20-50yrs) that eventually some sort of unified authority or organized group will be recognized in control, even if countries keep certain rights, like statehood, leaders and national heritage. The United Nations, U.S. and several industry giants already practice a form of global influence.

Will there ever be a global government? I hope to God not.

I think it is ultimately inevitable.

I think it will be multinational corporations that will ultimately cause it to develop.

Many of them
Hundreds, maybe thousands of years will pass, then man will overthrow the shackles of religion.
He will be a lot smarter, I hope, and accept a one-world government, which will respect its citizens and realize that the government people are public servants.
Hatred, bigotry, intolerance will be things of the past...but this will take time, even as things are slowly, ever so slowly , improving..

Thank you for the bit of sunshine Captain Kirk.

Yes, I think it is likely we will one day have a global government. But not for centuries and I don’t think it will be through force.

Already happening, it's called "NATO".

To some degree there already is and it revolves around corporations and business law - and around finance. "International laws" per se means international government.

The Union now has won. All their members lost their jobs as was the union's goal.

Union strike kills Twinkies baker Hostess

I have little doubt this ultimately is a sweetheart deal with another company with more union employees, for which the union is eliminating that company's competition.

And what series of events would need to occur for such a government to come into existence?

Well, I think any one of the world powers (namely, the USA) could fit that description.
