What do you consider your duties as an American? Include both duties you consider to be mandatory and those you consider moral in nature.

protect my country, with violence if required<---mandatory
vote<----mandatory
help my fellow americans when possible<-----moral

Sorry, there was supposed to be an "Other" option.

I saw many things that are my responsibility. But pitching in when asked was not among them. To me just voting is not enough. It is my job as a citizen to work for America. Take the time to volunteer whenever I am called on to work at the voting stations, help in emergencies, among other things. Too many people think this country owes them something. Sorry but for the most part it doesn't not in the sense that I have heard some people talk. It is our job to work as a country (E Pluribus Unim) to help it and make it better.

Sitting in a chair with our thumbs up our butt will not accomplish anything. Nor will bitching for bitching sake. Get up off your butt and do something to move us forward.

My duties are to take care of myself, live up to my responsibilities, and be a lawful citizen.

Best answer yet. Those who fail at this basic mission, personal responsibility, are somehow now seen as "victims of society" rather than asked to make any personal lifestyle adjustments they are handed a gov't "reward for faliure" check and given a big hug by the demorats. USA, USA, USA...

Owning guns, having faith, and defending overseas interests aren't things to expect of an American citizen.

However, voting, being sensible, etc are our duties. The sort of things that you can't go wrong with.

It is not my duty as American to go overseas and "spread freedom and democracy".

I voted "to pay taxes" because that's my legal obligation. My sense of patriotism disappeared yesterday. I have no president.

American's don't have any mandatory duties.

There are no duties as an American, even voting. Not voting can be an expression of Americanism itself.

Show me where in the constitution there are "duties".

Duties are expectations people impress on others to reach their wishes and objectives.

I don't owe you a thing.

Paying taxes isn't really a legal obligation unless you become moderately successful, as is evidenced by a large number of Americans who don't pay income taxes. Imo, it really sucks that you have the choice to live as a pauper and not pay taxes, or achieve the American dream and pay for that accomplishment. Taxes are way too high for everyone paying them, and I don't consider it a moral obligation, nor a legal one, unless I put myself in the position of having to. It's basically a penalty for having intelligence, work ethic, and the drive to succeed.

I see it as a legal and a moral obligation to render unto caesar, so to speak. Outside of that, my eyes have been opened. It's so easy to believe the dream that we're all this nice, happy, unified nation where we all get along, but that's obviously a fairy tale.

Patriotism is for fools. What is America? It's a blend of things I like and things I dislike. If this country fell apart, as long as me and my family were OK, I wouldn't mind much.

I can understand you point of view, but I still don't see it as an obligation to render unto Caesar.......... because far too many people aren't doing it. It's just the price you pay for your monetary successes in life. There is NO moral obligation to a government.

yes you do, his name is Barack Hussein Obama and just because your side lost the vote doesnt make him any less your president unless you care to renounce your citizenship and move overseas.

Our government is like an asshole of a landlord. You don't have to like them, but as long as you're here, you should pay your rent.

Unless the south wants to rise again, I'd be all for that. LOL.

None Only one of the above.
I have no obligation to anyone or anything, except to pay any taxes, I'm legally obligated to pay and to leave everyone else alone.

That's it.

There were two that gave me pause. I checked one and not the other. Our interests is too vague for me. Iraq for example is a case where some called it in our interest. I don't. So, I'd have to have something more specific. I also took pause on promoting freedom. Promoting is the key word. Not enforcing or imposing. Encouragement is fine. Invading to spread is not.

Barack Hussein Obama can kiss my ass. I will pay my taxes, and obey the law, but he will never have any love from me, that's for sure. He's not my president.

he is your president, regardless, until you give up your citizenship. that's how a republican democracy works.

He isn't your country, but i'm concerned you're being a bit irrational here. I'm just concerned. You're not alone are you?

LOL. If I met him, I would not address him as Mr President. He's Barack Obama. He rode a wave of idiocy into the white house. He's not my leader.

:lamo

Yuck it up while you can. You'll have your day when the Republicans take the white house back, and you'll deserve every bit of it.

Actually I wasn't yucking. You seem more upset than is rational.
