Oh well then. It's weird that you think people who want the right to self-determination aren't rational. That we all don't agree with the government you've picked out for us, just because there are a couple more of you than there are of us.

I see the will of an entire region and culture of the United States being tossed under the rug, and I'm going to get upset and speak up about it.

Actually I wasn't yucking. You seem more upset than is rational.

You've lost no rights. That thought in and of itself is irrational. This has been part of the problem. Obama is no different than any of the presidents before him. This wild hyperbolic insanity is disconcerning. You believe things that have not happened, and fear things that won't happen.

Don't let that **** get to you Peter. This country is heading toward the cliff regardless of who is in power, because we have an overabundance of people riding in the cart. Just do your best to live life as well as you can, and say screw it to the rest. You, nor I, can change the direction this populace has taken.

That's where you're wrong.

When the entire Northeast votes for one guy, and the entire South votes for another guy, there's a division. It's been this way since the Civil War.

This is a struggle. A struggle of the Southern minority vs the Northern majority. You see irrationality, but all I want, and all people like me want, is freedom from your tyranny.

Though not as hyperbolic, I don't think that is true either. Talking heads have created a false crisis. Yes, we need to be concerned about the debt. And we do need to be concerned by things like off shoring and McDonaldization. But if we keep our heads and work together, it doesn't have to go off any cliff.

Actually, if you look at it the dividsion is really between cities and more rural areas. Do a county by county look at the vote. You can't really divide the country that way.

It will go off a clilff by necessity. It is not a false crisis. It is a matter of having too many people, with too little resources, and too few to pay the bills.

I see it as regional. I see it as the old Civil War lines being drawn again and again. Look at the electoral map for the past few elections.

Nobody can spell it out for what it is in the media because they don't want to incite unrest. But the differences are real, palpable. I know a lot of people up north just don't understand, but for example I am Texan, and a lot of Texans are serious about wanting to secede. It's not just because of Obama, it goes much deeper than that. This country has always been divided between north and south, we only pretend like we're not.

Go to Texas sometime. You're sure to see a few "Texas should secede" bumper stickers. The sentiment is alive in the south.

I have more faith. Faith in our people. Faith in our way of life. And frankly, it will take very little to get us back to where Clinton had us.

Yeah I know. Loved San Antonio. But Texas has always been a little out there. I grew in in Georgia, and understand southern stupid well. But, that doesn't change what I said. Look for yourself.

The south is a lot redder.

All I can say is that the people you come into contact with on a daily basis must be very different from those that I deal with. I have no faith in the majority of our people to do much of anything. In the rural areas, I have much more confidence in humanity. In urban areas? Pretty close to zero when it comes down to the nut-cuttin.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone could understand such simple concepts, and live up to them?

I'd like people just to live by one thought

don't impose costs on other people aka pay for the crap you want and don't demand others do it but Yes, its a simple concept that apparently more than half the country cannot understand or is unwilling to follow

I thought nationalism is evil?

I'm aman American because I was born here. That creates an obligation?

I've delt with people all across this country. Most work hard and are decent. I grew up in Jacksonville Florida (projects) and Atlanta Ga. Know a lot of good hard working people from both places. We let a minority of people and the constant drone of political entertainers to cloud our judgment.

I think constantly trying to define our "duties as Americans" is too self-righteous, I'd much rather focus on what my duties are as a decent human being.

I'll buy that.

This is all relative to one's opinion on the grading curve. Apparently, your standards are much lower than lizzie's and mine.

Or my eyes are clear and my perception better. ;)

What do you consider your duties as an American? Include both duties you consider to be mandatory and those you consider moral in nature.

You forgot one, either none of the above, or I have no duties.
