Is CNN left-wing biased?

Is CNN left-wing biased?

I only access CNN.com and CNNMoney. I don't have cable TV so I can't speak to that. I don't notice terribly much of a bias, except the usual bias toward attention-grabbing material. This means they won't talk about a lot of complex issues. Just stuff that will capture the attention span of the most viewers/readers.

This.
It's a decent news source, I keep CNN Money on my phone.

With that said, a lot of their stories are populist in nature and could be considered to tilt left.
Not so much that it would compromise their integrity though.

I don't know how you can say that.

It's just my observation.

I think Fox News comes off more biased than it actually is because everything else is so horribly slanted to the left. I don't personally watch cable news very often but I find Fox News' news programs cover everything and gives a relatively appropriate amount of coverage to stories whereas MSNBC and CNN's are willing to under cover, over cover, or downright ignore stories depending on who it favors.

I end up getting most of my news from what is probably the single most liberal source in the country, The New York Times.

The problem is that individual reporting can be scrutinized for more hinted biases on level with CNN, but it is that the themes of the day in the reporting carry on straight through the networks more op-ed programs. It turns it into the same points being discussed at different angles, but with strikingly similar conclusions.

I don't watch TV, but I had the impression that Fox was at worst in the 7-9 range...Why 11?

Well my thought process on that is they set the standard for biased IMO :)

nobody does it better, MSNBC tries to be a biased as them but its not as good it seems forced and cheezy biased, Fox has it perfected.

I gave them an 11 the way I would give Magic Johnson an 11 for point guard, yeah theres The Big O and John Stockton, and Bob Cousy, and isiah thomas, and soon to be Payton, Kidd and Nash etc but there will just never be a Magic probably ever again.

I don't know how you can say that.

I thought that same thing, I dont see how CNN is even in the running for top dog?!?!

I can see if people want to argue over MSNBC and FOX though

I guess it doesnt matter to much as long as people admit, ALL PEOPLE, admit that MSNBC and FOX are without a doubt very biased and if you cant see that then you are biased yourself one way or another.

Is CNN left wing biased

wait a minute, I have to clean up the spit take all over my computer screen

Oh my god, I think I have seen it all now LOLOLOLOL

Fox New certainly has it's after dinner "Op-Ed" programs but I find their actual news coverage to be pretty straight forward and without much bias. CNN and MSNBC's entire lineup seems "Op-Ed"ish to me. I also get turned of by their "Black in America", "Hispanic in America", etc. specials. I find those programs far too condescending to watch.

also FYI I dindt answer the poll cause I dont think any answers fit

I dont think they are a left propaganda "machine" but I dont think the lean is "slight" either.

I think its an obvious left lean but better than others

I don't think CNN is in the running for top dog. I just think they're more biased than Fox.

I think both networks are a ways away from NBCNews.

In fairness I was so turned off by MSNBC years ago that I can't remember the last time I put the channel on but it's definitely not within the last few years. What I see tends to be clips so it is certainly possible that people are uploading the most ridiculous stuff.

Rudy for Prez.

As I've said before, in terms of personalities, presentation, and focus...

Fox News revels in their general staunch right leaning slant

MSNBC revels in their general staunch left leaning slant

CNN attempts to temper and moderate their left leaning slant.

Essentially....

If a 50 was a purely neutral entity, 0 a purely liberal, and 100 a purely conservative....

Fox would be a 75. MSNBC would be a 25. CNN would likely be a 35 to 40 by and large.

Would you say you are being fair to MSDNC They are obviously trying to become part of the Demcratic Party and I'd say they are doing a fine job of it. I'd give them a 10 at least!

And, conversely, you never hear Fox commentators being as blatantly biased and nasty/snarky/vicious about their commentary as MSDNC. I'd give them a 60 because they do skew Right but they remember the ideals of journalism, at least. MSLSD makes no pretense of fairness nor objectivity.

He can be second lady if the Mormon wins.

Lucky for you that you have the good sense to make snide remarks about a religion whose followers will just pray for you instead of calling you an anti-Mormon bigot...or worse.

As long as one of 'em sign me up after I'm gone, just in case. Thanks.

silly people, the entire MSM is owned and regulated by rightwingers...the only reason you have a couple of moderate truth tellers on msnbc is because they are making a profit

the entire MSM is rightwing or corp friendly...wake up

like I said tis ok, its all opinion its just shocking to me because I think FOX is easily top dog I dont even think they have any competition, I think MSNBC wants to be like them but fails, they are like 1 and 2 for me and while I think CNN is left leaning I dont even think they are in fox's league of biased at all, its like a feather weight adn a heavy weight but again thats jut me.

As long as you see fox's clear and blatant obvious bias Id say your just fine ;)

There's a slight left wing bias on CNN. Not nearly as bad as MSNBC, which is the left wing equivalent of Fox News.

I agree, though I would scale it as 80, 30, 45, respectively.

Fox News is extremely biased but I don't think anyone is as blatantly dishonest as MSNBC. This from a centrist that likely is a little left leaning. I don't watch either much, its netflix and video games in my house, but dang is Chris Mathews and that bunch annoying.

Check out the following interview from this morning with Mayor Giuliani, and make your own determination. In particular, listen to Soledad Obrien as they start to discuss Libya, and take a look at the other reporters chiming in.

They simply can't help themselves, as their left-wing ideology just bubbles over.

The mayor actually has to call her out on it.

Less biased than Fox. Even fox's main news station isn't extreme. The extreme stuff is on their internet. CNN's internet is more liberal than their main news station but MUCH less biased than Fox's internet.

Maybe THAT's why I never thought of Fox as uber-biased - I mainly encounter their product when I hear their radio news broadcasts on a local radio station, and those are usually just short bits about the news, no commentary or anything...

You forgot a poll option: No.

From what I've seen, CNN is highly responsible in reporting the facts.

It's the facts that have a liberal bias.

The Irony is that everyone talks about how hardcore right Fox is and fairly often I actually see Juan Williams, Allan Combes, Geraldo, Bob Beckel etc tote the liberal party line.

I think it is near impossible for a media outlet to be unbiased. Even in picking what stories to cover, bias will seep in. I do think that, unlike Fox and MSNBC, most of the news outlets at least try to be unbiased. They fail, but they try.

Also, I have no problem with Fox and MSNBC being overtly biased. I enjoy watching Maddow and Hayes in the same way I am sure Conservatives enjoy watching the O’Reilly or Hannity. Nothing wrong with that, as long as we don’t pretend that they aren’t biased.
