Should Christians support Obama?

Should Christians support Obama?

Since Obama disagrees with most of the things he believes in like SSM, abortion any time including partial birth should Christians vote for him?

There should be a separation of religion and politics law =P.

Did you know that if a fetus died naturally in the womb and is not expelled naturally the woman could get a life threatening infection?

Removal of the dead fetus is an called an abortion. Some of the numbers of abortions are fetus'es that died naturally in the womb.

Less than 1 percent of abortions take place after 21 weeks ( just past the 5 month mark).
Less than .08 take place after 24 weeks gestation.

These are the extreme cases.
They are the cases where the woman's life or irrepairable damage to a major bodily function would take place if the pregnancy were allowed to contine.
THey are cases where the fetus has died in the womb or is so malformed the fetus will be stillborn or will only live a few minutes or hours.

You are so wrong............Your leader and guru believes in abortion in the 3rd trimester as well as partial birth abortion...............No one is talking about removing a dead baby from the womb.................Its the 54,000,000 living ones that have been butchered alive.

and there is my left wing friend but you can not ignore the teachings of your religion.

I don't believe in any established religion the "left wing nut" that I am

I do find the world miraculous though and I kinda connect with all the math and physics unlike normal people.

Well, it's not really for us as Christians to say who sticks their nose in our business. We can only control how we react, and that reaction should be Christlike.

That sounds like something they said during the Nazi era....

First the came for the lame and insane and we ignored it....They they came for the gays and we ignored it...Then they came for the Jews and we ignored it...Then they came for us........

Perhaps you know many people who are self-proclaimed "Christians" or who simply attend/belong to churches which are founded on "Christian doctrine?" There is quite a difference between Christians and those who've simply adopted the title for convenience or for political expediency.

The bible is not 100% clear on these issues and leaves room for interpretation. There is plenty of room for those who are sincere to have a variety of opinions for that reasons. Every single scripture people quote is vague (at least the ones I have seen).

My personal approach is to leave the issues alone because of their vagueness.

The Truth Behind False, Outrageous Lies about Obama and ”Born Alive” Legislation

Here is the statement that was issued whe President Obama was a senator in Illinois:
STATEMENT
“Senator Obama strongly supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose. He believes that there is a moral and ethical element to this issue, and he believes that women do not make these decisions casually, but wrestle with them in consultation with their doctors, pastors and family. Senator Obama understands that some will disagree with him and choose not to support him, and he respects those with different opinions. But the recent attacks on Senator Obama that allege he would allow babies born alive to die are outrageous lies.

The suggestion that Obama — the proud father of two little girls — and others who opposed these bills supported infanticide is deeply offensive and insulting. There is no room for these kinds of distortions and lies in this campaign. What Senator Obama's attackers don't tell you is that

existing Illinois law already requires doctors to provide medical care in the very rare case that babies are born alive during abortions.

They will not tell you that Obama voted against these laws in Illinois because they were clear attempts to undermine Roe v. Wade. They will not tell you that these laws were also opposed by pro-choice Republicans and the Illinois Medical Society — a leading association of doctors in the state.

And they will not tell you that Obama has always maintained that he would have voted for the federal version of this bill, which did not pose such a threat.

The bills Senator Obama voted against in Illinois were crafted to undermine Roe v. Wade or pre-existing Illinois state law regulating reproductive healthcare and medical practice, which is why Senator Obama objected to them.”

Since Obama disagrees with most of the things he believes in like SSM, abortion any time including partial birth should Christians vote for him?

Navy promoting these kind of ad hoc defenses is the only thing that can get republicans the of the 2% for the 2% elected....they need small minds that vote GOP just because of small side issues such as abortion and SSM without those republicans dont get elected TO ANYTHING.
For example: I am against Same sex Marriage...and I am against abortions on demand for any reason without any restraint whatsoever....but Im voting for Obama...why ? Because its far more important for every american citizen to "EAT" have a roof over their head...have a reasonable amount of security in thier "OLD AGE" and have decent medical care...If I have to trade that off for Gays getting married an abortion...then thats exactly what Im going to do....Only the "DUMBEST" of dumbass's vote for a single issue and disregard the whole enchillada....

And you miss my point. This thread was about how so-called Christians would respond at the polls based soley on how they viewed Obama's take on SSM and abortion.

This thread was not about the "hypocrisy of mainstream Christians,"........that was your little "friendly" addendum.

Wow......can you even miss the point even more? Let me clue you in.......the POINT is that the OP presents a skewed point. Conveniently questioning how so called "Christians" can support President Obama based on two issues, while overlooking others that he doesn't agree with. The POINT is....that when you start with a flawed premise and you engage in your "Cafeteria selection" of what "Christian" beliefs you want to accept and those that you want to conveniently oppose....you are being a hypocrite. Sorry that it went by you.

Since Obama disagrees with most of the things he believes in like SSM, abortion any time including partial birth should Christians vote for him?

As stated, this makes no sense and is confusing.
Please reiterate.
Now, as to SSM and abortion, these are things that tax my tolerance to the max.
But I am greatful that I have "taxable tolerance".
Obviously, you, and other "very conservatives" do not.
And this boils down to a lack of respect for others.
To end, how about the ones "killed" before "Roe vs Wade" ?
The solution is, at this point in time, beyond man's ken.

Unlike some, I will take this poll for what it's worth. I believe Navy was speaking in terms of Catholics and Protestants who do in fact make up the VAST majority of the Christian population.
Statistics on Religion in America Report -- Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life
Most of those religions covered under protestant are against the things Navy mentioned in the OP. Obviously there are invidividuals who have slightly different beliefs than the religion they practice. However, Navy can't account for that so he must base his comments off of the tenants of each religion.
As far as the OP, I believe that Christians should re-think their stance on SSM. IMO, SSM is a freedom issue, not a Christian issue. If we allow the gov't to put its nose into the realm of marriage in the manner many Christians want the gov't to, we are opening up a can of worms that doesn't need to be opened. Granted, I don't believe our current gov't would use the precedent of being able to dictate who can and can't be married to accomplish some secret alterior motive. However, we need to stop thinking in terms of now. Who's to say future politicians wouldn't? SSM doesn't affect anyone. It only affects the individuals engaging in it. Therefore, they should be allowed to do so. If you don't like it, don't go to the wedding. If you don't want to see them holding hands, move along or stay home. So, on SSM, no I don't think Christians should be so quick to write this off as an automatic vote. However, if an anti-SSM candidate should present him/herself who fits what I am looking for in a candidate, I would vote for them.
On abortion, I believe it all depends on where you stand on personhood. I believe a human being is created the minute the egg is fertilized. In fact, I would say the precedent is there to enforce that. The Unborn Victims of Violence Act is that precedent. I am aware that this act contains a provision stating that it cannot be used to prosecute abortion.
Unborn Victims of Violence Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I believe abortion should be a Federal matter and should be made illegal. One of the primary roles of the Federal gov't is to protect people from other people ie militarily, through regulations, etc. This fits that category. One person is harmed by another person. Said person being harmed in defenseless. All of this definitely fits EVERY Christian religion's beliefs. If any Christian deviates from this they are wrong IMO. Some Christians could view it differently, however, I would like to see where they can find support for that opinion in the Bible. To be clear, I am speaking of abortion in the instance of convenience, rape, or choice based on non-health related issues. If a woman is deemed to be at risk of dieing or her baby is deemed the same, I think that is a case where abortion is an option. Partial birth abortion is absolutely barbaric. Any person that supports that needs to get their head checked. Plain and simple.

That is your opinion and I respect it..........As a Christian myself social issues like murdering babies in the womb even in the 3rd trimester is very importaant to me and most Christians.....................

A "true" Christian would want to get to the root causes of abortion..Or, I should say, an intelligent man rather than a Christian.

I think this is fairly obvious..........Christians (at least those who actually follow the teachings of Christ and the New Testament), by definition, would be opposed to SSM and abortion. You're acting as if this is not common knowledge.
IMO, its "common knowledge" that one out of a million Christians are "true " Christians..
My thought processes never stop, never reach an absolute conclusion.

Since religion is between the person and their God, it is up to them whether or not they should or should not vote for anyone in particular.

The Partial birth abortion ban act has been in effect for several years and it was upheld by the SC in 2007.

Why ? Does your god cease to exist if this nation is secular but allows you to practice your religion?

No, but this country certainly will.

And "allowing me to practice my religion" in this country gets more challenging with each passing year.

How will the US cease to exist? God is for all the world. NOT the US.

Do you mean your right to impose your religious beliefs are getting more constricted? Maybe it's about time.

I think He's more equal opportunity than outcome, but one's gotta admit He loves them Gators.

Really> I Heard he was a HUGE Hoosier fan.;)

Not my God. He is for all those who support His Son.

Actually it's more like Secularists are imposing their beliefs on us, and it's certainly not time for that! ;)

Your god is "evangelized" all over the world, is he not? God is worldwide friendly. And Christ demanded to love everyone....

This is a secular society. We allow religion to be practiced, but it is not how we run our nation. Don't like that? Feel free to start a nation of your religion elsewhere.
