"If somebody's dumb enough to ask me to go to a political convention and say something, they're going to have to take what they get," the 82-year-old star told Extra earlier this week about his now-infamous August 30 Republican National Convention appearance, during which he addressed an invisible Barack Obama "seated" next to him."

The Democrats who were watching thought I was going senile. And the Republicans knew I was!"

Eastwood also seized the opportunity to clarify his political views -- he's not a Republican or a Democrat, but a Libertarian.

I was afraid Clint lost his marbles when he was having a discussion with an empty chair. Now I just think he was having some fun.....

Is he right? Was the Republican Party dumb to invite him to speak?

Well.....it was the party that brought us Sarah Palin.

thats a funny line about being senile

It was dumb but also the highlight of the whole convention since Trump's video was cut.

I actually liked it when he spoke. Made me laugh quite a bit.

I actually don't really care who spoke at the GOP convention. However it seems to me that they picked completely the wrong time for his speech...it was like somebody actually tried to take the attention off of Romney.

In the end, it's their convention, their business.

There were many things in the Rep Convention that should have been thought provoking.

Eastwood simply addressed the failures of the current administration.

It's about time we stopped looking at the shiny objects and started talking about the serious issues.

Is the debt too high?

Should we stay in Afghanistan?

Is half the country really crippled and sick enough to need support?

Do we really need an active military big enough to fight a ground war in Chine or a global war at sea with conventional weapons?

It it time to turn an Arab country into a glass top just to get the attention of the rest of them?

Should spending continue to rise every year or could we cut back spending to the Utopian days of Clinton?

There are real, actual problems in this country that have to do with how the country is being run. The priorities are out of whack and the bill is coming due. Soon the USA will have a worse credit rating than an Occupier.

Does anyone up there know that we're in trouble?

Why post a poll that is just a declaration that you're a political partisan hack trying and failing to be clever on an old topic?

Clint Eastwood saying "when someone hasn't got the job done for 4 years its time to let him go" was a definite plus.

The Republican party is dumb, period. Like, over the last 8 years they've been shooting for full retard. Mission accomplished.

They kicked Democrats asses in the last election season and locally here the Democrats could not even put up a candidate for most positions, where before Obama the offices were half held by Democrats and half by Republicans. This is the first time in over 100 years Democrats could not even find someone to run, let alone win the election.

What prime time unscripted and not pre-approved speeches did Democrats allow anyone to make?

Control freak national Democrats. They are destroying local and state Democratic officeholders.

With the rabid support of Obama by 80% of the media and press, Obama my well be re-elected, but at the cost of 10,000 local, county and state Democrat positions and officials.

Well... I doubt very much they knew what they were in for, that's for sure. At the time it probably seemed like a good idea (he's famous, well liked, and universally respected as an artist), and hindsight is, as they say, 20/20. In general I really doubt his appearance will do any real harm to Romney's chances. The people who already hate Romney have been mocking Clint since this happened. The people who like Romney (or feel obligated to vote for him because they hate Obama) aren't going to change their minds because a crazy old man made a fool of himself onstage. All in all, this just isn't all that important. It's funny, but it's not important.

You're sounding pretty rabid yourself there, dude. You may want to stop castigating the kettle, Mr. Black Pot.

Get real bud I think this is hilarious. Eastwood got one over everyone and this is note worthy. Also if you read the article it is dated today September 19, 2012.

BTW do you have sources to back up your assertions?......

I agree with this. I beleive they were hoping for some old sound bites delivered in person and got a dose of one pissed off hombre. He wants the job done right just like anyone else.

I thought Obama was classy to say he is a huge fan of Eastwood and he was not offended!

Obama: Clint Eastwood RNC Speech Did Not Offend Me

President Barack Obama said he wasn't offended by Clint Eastwood's antics at the 2012 Republican National Convention.

"One thing about being president or running for president -- if you're easily offended, you should probably choose another profession," Obama told the newspaper, adding that he is a "huge fan" of the film legend.

It was bizarre yet Eastwood usually has a script and plays a role. It was improv. I liked some Eastwood flicks yet really do not remeber much of him. The clip of the empty chair was bizarre yet RNC conventions are always funny without meaning to be. I do not have a TV yet I always like seeing all those heavy set white people in funny hats on clips of the convention!

The RNC did not do much to help Romney ... yet I always thought conventions of either party were more of a formality. If it entertained the the people attending I guess it served its purpose.

The cons like electing actors for office ... heck maybe Clint will be the next Ray Gun.

I voted we are all taking it too seriously.

None. Most people look at that as a good thing and the sign of a party that's got their **** together.

It used to be the Republicans who were organized and had it down, and the Democrats who looked like a bunch of retards trying to hump a doorknob. Times have changed.

Winning doesn't mean your smart, the Dems have trashed the Reps plenty of times too.

I don't understand what you're saying here. Are we supposed to give credit to the RNC for letting Eastwood speak? Mitt Romney is perceived as a boring and stiff Mormon who spends his time trying to find loopholes in the tax code and on occasion lets loose by firing a few employees who are low on the totem pole. That's why they let Eastwood speak. To remind people that some Republicans can still kick back and have a few chuckles every now and again. I liked Clint's speech, but only because it was so bizarre and out of place it melted my mind in a way nothing other than Dark Side of the Moon has done.

I would vote for Clint Eastwood. Unfortunately the republicans would never put someone up that would fight for what they believe in, and sais what they think.

Anyone who thinks that Clint Eastwood is senile for his empty chair skit needs to have THEIR head examined...

Is half the country really crippled and sick enough to need support?

You will hire and pay them a living wage then? If not, don't complain. What support are you talking about? This government is so awful, I wouldn't support it financially even if I were incredibly wealthy. If that's what Romney's thinking with the offshore accounts, I'm totally on his side! Some who don't pay income taxes are homeless (again, what support?), many were just laid off work temporarily (possibly by Romney himself), others barely get by even working full time.

What has the government done for them? What would it do if they were taxed more? The 47% comment was asinine political suicide, a total disconnect with reality. Almost everyone would gladly take an elevator in their mcmansion garage in exchange for paying some pittance to the fed. This kind of insulting question that you ask is definitely not going to win elections.

The rest of your questions are legit, with exception of at least 1 is genocidal, so gonna skip those.

I liked it... Older people have a tougher time of communicating and timing so respect the guy and give him a break so he can tell you a thing or two.

I found it incredibly uncomfortable to watch, not particularly funny, not particularly enlightening, and wondered who had thought it was a good idea to give someone with the creative capacity of Eastwood unvetted free time on national tv. He was obviously improvising, leaving dead time while he worked his next gag in his mind, made the audience squirm... not in a good way.

Don't get me wrong, I admire Eastwood for his talent and creativity, although it was sadly lacking at the GOP speech. But cripes, he's Hollywood for heaven sake... you know, the "Hollywood" that Romney ads now lambast as Obama's Stepford Buffoons. Eastwood is right. The GOP invited him to speak, didn't bother to find out what in hell he would say, and counted on the "famous celebrity WOW factor" without bothering to research the well-known fact that Eastwood is nobody's lackey, cannot be controlled, and would basically give a big F.U. to anyone, republican or democrat, who didn't like what he had to say.

All I can say is that the GOP "fought the law and the law won".
