Have any of your political views changed since being a member of Debate Politics? If so, what views have changed and in what way have they changed?

For me it would be the 2nd Amendment. Believe it or not, I'm a much bigger proponent of the 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms than I was before.

Mine haven't at all. In fact, I keep finding less of a need to change them, as no one here has been able to sufficiently challenge them

No, it hasn't changed mine at all. In fact, since it is has forced me to research more and more in different areas making up my viewpoint, I am even more strongly supportive of that viewpoint. While it hasn't really changed by views, it has made me strengthen my views in some areas where I previously only had minor interest.

Yes, but not because of anything that I've read on here.

This forum has way too many personal attacks.

In several ways:

  • One, I've become ProLife with limits (on my own sensibilities). And that it's stupid to argue for or against since it is the law.
  • I have also come to the conclusion that it makes not one little twit who is President of the United States. The only important thing is that we don't have a President and both chambers of the same party.

Yes, but not really as a result of anything that has been said here.

some of my views have evolved. for example, i see the economic malaise in terms of a global progression to a more technology dependent post labor economy rather than just as an outsourcing problem.

Yes very little. Very little about how to implement socialism in AMerica.

My opinions havent changed but I'm still new, and I am always open to different opinions. Over seven years I went from Republican to anti-neocon Republican to libertarian to geolibertarian/left libertarian.

The president chooses supreme court judges and that is HUGE!

Thats funny because you have changed your lean twice since you've been on DP. Not including your intial registered lean.

My views about gay marriage have changed due to this website. I now view gay marriage as a freedom issue, though I don't agree with it personally. Users such as Redress and Your Star influenced that.
I also have completely flipped my view of our foreign policy. But that is much more predicated on the fact that I have had time to decompress from deploying over and over and have had the repercussions of those deployments hit me physically and mentally than anything that anyone has said on this website. By mentally I mean that I have had time to reflect on why exactly I lost the guys that I lost and I can't find a good reason for it. Dealing with that tends to make you hate warmongering politicians and the policies they enact.

Yeah, after the string of lesbian SCOTUS appointments by Obama, we need some more conservative judges. Like John Roberts.

I said Yes, A Little, but it's very little. The urgency with which I feel the global economy will collapse has mellowed out slightly.

Guess that's about it.

I can't think of any specific POV I have changed because I am on DP, but I have been informed and challenged by the reading and interaction here. I've had some factual errors corrected and I've developed a fondness for people who don't agree with me, but still take the time to dispute an issue respectfully.

My views have changed, although I'm not sure if I've led anyone to changing theirs with my debates or arguments. I think most people are set in their ways and set in their thinking and have a filter on that the other side is "evil" or "cannot be right" even though an opposing viewpoint is rational and is the better solution/belief. That's why I think when many people are losing a debate the deflect to "well the GOP/Dems are..." or resort to personal attacks.

You've never been rude to me, MarineT. I think, to a degree, it's a matter of getting what you give.

I hope I haven't either lol. I try to be respectful to people on here.

DP made me do a lot of research and I've learned a lot though my position stays the same I'm more confident than ever supporting Obama over Romney.

I don't think a person is evil or morally inferior to me just because he disagrees with me, digsbe. Sometimes, we want the same things but disagree about the best way to get them. Sometimes we don't share the same values of worldview -- but I have no doubt, most people tried just as hard as I did to arrive at their moral POVs.

I'll tolerate almost any disagreement except one based on bigotry.

I've posted on differing political boards over the years. My views have not changed due to anything I've read or discussed at any of them. I do like to get others' opinions and I consider what they are saying. However, I've always been a fiscally conservative, socially liberal person. I changed my political affiliation a few years ago to Libertarian because that seemed to support my political stances the best. I don't agree with all of their platform - however - I disagreed with the GOP more and more as the years passed and while I may or may not vote Libertarian (third parties in this country unfortunately do not yet have a real shot at big office appointment until the system as we know it is over hauled), but I align myself with them.

Just a few days ago I had someone convince me to stop hating GW Bush and remember that he did some good things too. They presented their case politely and intelligently and it influenced me. Not the first time either but this was kind of a big one.

I've learned a lot from postings [well sourced] on political forums. So many times it sparked a curiosity to explore subjects I wouldn't have ordinarily. All that extra data, and some reasonable folks, has evolved my opinions over the years. I'll always think Ike was the best President ever, but I'm willing to explore changing my mind on all the others.
