And.... Why?

Hopefully not. It is be none of his business.

I predict he will vote "present" again - after all, he's built his whole career on that tactic.

I doubt it. Getting into a fight between his former chief-of-staff and one of his biggest political supporters is a no-win situation for him. My guess is that he'll avoid the topic as much as possible, and if he is pressed on it by the media he'll give a non-committal answer. I suspect that Obama probably agrees with Rahm Emanuel (based on his relative receptiveness to education reform), but there's no chance he'll make that opinion public.

So I think we should stop buying Mug's root beer for the community soda fridge in the office and instead start buying Barq's. Barq's has bite. Where do you think the president will end up? Will he filibuster our soda dilemma?

I don't believe he should. While I personally would like to hear his thoughts, generally a person of his office position shouldn't weigh in directly on local matters. It just causes too much butt hurt for people who aren't able to rationally discuss the issues.

Ahem...A&W FTW.

Wow I've never seen a 4 way tie on a poll on this website before o_O

I think he'll support the teachers just because he doesn't want to get labelled as anti-middle/lower classes. Romney will probably try to take the opposite stance, and Obama will criticize him for that.

Fillibuster and refuse to take a side and anger anyone.

Why? Because anything else is too risky.

 yeah. Because Obama doesn't weigh in on issues that are local matters.

I can't help but think that he will make some dumb statement without thought in response to some reporters question. If he chooses any side it would be with the one running Chicago (Democrats) than those who are with the Union just because he got his start from the political machine. Not because he wants to appeal to moderates or he believes Rham is right.

There are some who believe that Rahm and Obama set this up so that Obama could sweep in and play peacemaker, boosting his prospects for November. I refuse to believe that Democrats can be that organized.

Besides which, there's no freeking way that Rahm would ever consent to be Obama's straight man.

that could only happen if he started taking reporters' questions again.

Now if physicians went on strike (for the sake of their patients, of course), we can be quite sure Obama would have something to say.
