Re: Should Americans have to undergo marksmanship training to be able to own a firear

Actually it is not. The issue of felons and the mentally ill NOT being able to have the right to keep and bear arms is indeed relevant because it is an INFRINGEMENT which is permitted by law and is perfectly Constitutional. As such it is a reminder that the right is NOT unlimited or absolute.

I have to agree with Haymarket, Turtle.

No right is unlimited. Goes to the whole yelling "fire!" in a crowded theater.

Re: Should Americans have to undergo marksmanship training to be able to own a firear

Ironically Retired Police Officers to be able to carry a concealed firearm and be covered under the federal statute have to qualify periodically to keep the right.
I dont know of any states that have that requirement for concealed carry....there are points to be made on both sides...the worst thing in the world is an idiot carrying a gun that has absolutely no clue how to HOLD IT...AIM IT...EASE THE TRIGGER....load it...unload it...clean it..or unholster it...I have mixed feelings.

One of those is a professional the other is not. Should every driver have to take a professional driving course to get into a vehicle and drive?

How good a person can shoot has little relevance in the private sector.

what you miss is prohibiting shouting fire in a theater where there is NO FIRE is a USE RESTRICTION not a possession restriction

and I never said what Haymarket pretends to contradict.

Where Have I said otherwise. where I have problems with gun banners such as many in your party is that you want to make distinctions between competent law abiding civilians who work for government vs those who do not and throw out this nonsense about those who have-THROUGH DUE PROCESS-lost certain rights

I don't know under which circumstances a person would purchase a firearm and not want to go shoot it at some targets. Guns are expensive, anyone buying one would want to get their moneys worth. Then after shooting the gun it needs to be cleaned.

I suppose a spouse that didn't really want a gun that had one given to them by their spouse might not want to shoot the gun. They also wouldn't be likely to use it if they ever needed to defend themselves.

It was one example. I mean do I have to list the drug war etc? to get the point across, hehehe.

I'll take your word for it.

For real? That blows.

That is fine as long as you have english training for free speech........

And we know were this leads.........

We know you want to eliminate a RIGHT.

Sorry, cold dead hands..................

I had to like this. Anytime someone mentions "cold dead fingers" I have to laugh. Not at you, but myself.

I used to believe that as well. Now at almost 50, with wife, daughter and a grand daughter I have much to protect. I am however not willing to sacrifice my family in that situation.

I feel like Mel Gibson's character in "The Patriot" torn between protecting family and what is the right thing to do.

In context to the argument, I have to agree. There are plenty of morons around me with enough money to buy explosives and such. I do feel completely comfortable with close gunshots around me which is odd because I don't trust the drunk bastards to hit the broadside of a barn let alone whatever they're shooting at

no one has claimed that the right is unlimited so its stupid to pretend someone did. But Many of us do not believe the federal government has the proper authority to tell citizens what sort of small arms they can own. No one disputes the right of the several states to limit USE of small arms

I do not believe that a governmental unit that issues certain weapons to CIVILIAN employees can be allowed to say that other civilians cannot even own them.

I didn't read past this page so I assumed that somebody claimed that it was unlimited.

nope, that would mean you could set up a belt fed fifty on times square and shoot pigeons

use moving targets, lawyers and politicians.....

maybe you and I should have a duel. I suspect you will lose. On the other hand, you'd do ok against the current regime's leaders I suspect

Re: Should Americans have to undergo marksmanship training to be able to own a firear

Pigeons are flying rats though....

agreed, at one time in my life-where it was legal, I was one hell of a live pigeon shooter. I just never bet the big bucks though

Sounds like a smashing time. I'd be more inclined to go duck hunting than competive bird shooting

I hunted ducks once. didn't like it. I had pet ducks in our pond. but pigeons carry histoplasmosis here in the Ohio Valley. A late judge I respected lost much of his eyesight when he contracted that nastiness because pigeons roosted by his air conditioning unit and he breathed pigeon crap

box pigeons is great. imagine a small baseball field you are on home plate and the pigeons come out of traps where the second base is. you gotta drop them before they clear a low fence.

That actually sounds like fun. I don't think I could just kill for sport. I am not a person that will hoard 100 animals but I wouldn't be able to put my dog down.

Re: Should Americans have to undergo marksmanship training to be able to own a firear

Nah, you want a shotgun for pigeons. Clay, or otherwise.

I used a Perazzi Mirage choked full and extra full with 3.5 dram remington shells with nickel plated 7.5 shot

Re: Should Americans have to undergo marksmanship training to be able to own a firear

Belt fed AA-12. Win-win

they had something like that in the Nam. a M2 Browning 50 loaded with 50 caliber shot shells. if a vc sniper was in a treelike the chopper pilot would have his gunner spray it with thousands of bird shot and if that didn't do charlie in he'd be naked as a jaybird with a bunch of real pissed off marines or Rangers right there holding some serious firepower
