Not "while minimizing his tax exposure". Not "did he count losses against his gains". Did he go a full 10 years without paying taxes.

I doubt it. I don't think the IRS would let that slide.

You know when you load the questions, you are going to screw the results.

Liberals pushing the idea that Romney show should his tax forms and did not pay taxes are no different than the birther tards claiming Obama should show his 'real' birth certificate and that he is not a natural born citizen.

It is quite unlikely that Romney paid no taxes for 10 years. His high income and high profile make it very difficult for any kind of tax evasion to avoid notice. There is no actual evidence that Romney did anything but pay whatever taxes are required by law. I would like him to release his tax forms as a measure of transparency, but Reid's baseless accusations and demands are without merit.

1. we're all speculating here, but my guess is that Romney paid taxes at a lower percentage than all the rest of us because he had the means to shelter every shelterable cent. he's not releasing the records because the amount of sheltering going on would provide the opposition with endless ammunition and would piss off enough people that it could considerably compromise his chances with the middle class. i find it exceptionally unlikely, however, that he paid no taxes.

2. Reid was an absolute idiot for making the accusation without bring direct evidence to the table, and he did his reputation a real disservice. unfortunately, that's the way this partisan hackery usually ends up, whether it be for an average American of for someone in a leadership role.

3. anyone pretending that this kind of nonsense is only coming from one side is willfully ignorant. there are entire networks devoted to this strategy.

the moral of the story is this : yeah, we know you really want your guy to win. that doesn't change the fact that evidence is necessary to support a claim. don't destroy your own credibility because you just know the dude is slimy and eventually some ad hominem mud will stick.

I think there might be years where romney took advantage of enough loopholes that his taxes were ridiculously low. There is something that romney is hiding and that's why he won't release his tax returns.

I won't actually vote because I think the answers are crap on there. I think most likely he paid taxes every year, but I also think that some years he paid maybe very close to 0 with tax tricks. I do believe there are some embarrassing things in there. What else should you believe when we already know he has off shore accounts and an IRA worth 100 million dollars?

Like any other business man Romney has an accountant that does his taxes for him and if he has hired a good firm that can find tax saving loopholes or an investor that knows how and when to move his money..well thats what those people are hired to do right?...........he was a Gov. and has ran for president 8 years....does that sound like somebody who would evades taxes?.......and as far as Reid goes, if he has some "informant" who knows first hand info on Romneys taxes and has disclosed that info I think there is some kind of violation of a privacy act and the IRS should investigate that claim

I don't know, has proof been presented to support Reid's claim? If not then there is no answer, just a guess.

Way to present horribly biased poll options without even including the only right answer, which is "who the **** knows".

I still think this is like the birther crap. If Obama released his birth certificate immediatley the birther mouvment would have died a quick death. By delaying more and more people made themselves look silly. When Romney finally releases his tax returns those making outlandish claims about him will look foolish as well.

Nah, they'll still dog him, just like they would have dogged Obama even if they were there when he was born.

Only people who would never vote for Obama are birthers so who cares? but by making them look silly, some people on the fence might think who are these nutjobs on the other side? I'll go with Obama. Remember not everyone is really tuned into politics, many just have a passing interest and when they hear one side go loopy over nonsense they tend to move to the less crazy side. I think Romney is hoping that will happen here as well. When someone jumps up and down and says Romney didn`t pay taxes for 10 years, then Romney produces forms and proves he did that guy will have a hard time getting people to take other points too seriously.
Well that the theory at least doesn`t mean it will work. If he releases too soon before the election he wont get as good an impact, plus there will be less people making outlandish claims.

Doesnt matter whether he did or he didnt as long as he refuses to release his financials...a gallup poll today said a 54% of americans want romney to release his taxs.
Lets put this in perspective, Romney is a very rich man...who is advocating another 20% tax cut for the wealthiest americans that will cost the middle class more to give them....Americans have a right to see if the very rich NEED another tax cut or if they arent paying near what they should in the first place
Harry Reid wanted one thing to stir up a big diversion and he did just that...does he care about all the attacks on him personally...hell no why should he, hes not running for anything

LOL this poll is chumming for dumbo donkeys. It looks like you caught a couple or so

Reid put Republicans in a catch 22 situation. If they respond to Reid's allegations they bring back the issue of Romney's taxes, which fizzled out during the Colorado shooting. However, if they don't respond the allegations would be substantiated.

He probably said it to goad Romney into releasing them and revealing any details that could potentially damage his campaign.

Where's the option: there is no evidence whatsoever that he went 10 years wihtout paying his taxes. That's one I'd mark.

Nobody knows. I can only pull a completely ignorant out-of-my-butt guess like so many others are doing... and my guess is that he filed tax returns, but paid almost no taxes, which is why he is hiding the damned things. He has never once revealed his tax returns while running for any office... yet he has always castigated his opponents if they didn't, and when his opponent did reveal her tax returns, he castigated her for not revealing her husband's tax returns while continuing to refuse to reveal his own at the same damned time.

I doubt he did anything illegal. He's just disingenuous and smarmy.

Yes. Leader Reid is better at the IRS' job than the IRS.
No, and Harry Reid made that crap up for political purposes
No, Romney minimized his tax bill within the law, and Reid confused the two
No, Reid is the victim of a black-bag operation by the RNC to make him look like an idiot

How about:
"Harry Reid made that crap up for political purposes, and his guess is probably pretty close to the truth."
