Probably a tie between indians and slavery.

Although the treatment of Indians was and is an everlasting shame, the Fed got my vote. This private central bank controls us all and perhaps because the volume of US money is so high compared to other Nations, it controls many of their destinies as well. It operates in relative secrecy and is not necessarily wholly owned by USAmericans. It is a Corporation, ergo it has stockholders. Who are they?????

For me it was a toss-up between slavery and our treatment of the Indian peoples. I opted for slavery as its effects have so damaged the nation to even this day and the foreseeable future.

Thoughts anyone? :)

None of the above. Those things made us what we are today. So it is ****en idiotic to be apologizing for the past or trying to feel bad about it.

In order. From the most worst to the "lest worst" (but all are terrible)

1.)Native American genocide
2.)Slavery
3.) Imperialism; directly (US military involvement): covers Vietnam, Korea, Indonesia, Philippines, Guatemala, Cuba, Mexico, Grenada, Iraq (twice), Afghanistan). Indirectly, through coups, terrorist activities, and economic imperialism: El Salvador, Iran, Chile, Venezuela, Cuba, Palestine, South Vietnam, Congo, Egypt, Honduras,.
4.) Civil Rights
5.) A-bomb being dropped
6.) US committed war crimes
7.) US backed terrorist groups
8.) Backing of Osama Bin Laden can fall in above category
9.) US backing of Saddam Hussein
10.) NAFTA

I'm not religiously-bent, and don't tend to view the history of nations as sinful, so to me, it's not really a matter of America's greatest sin. Our biggest mistake, imo, was bringing slaves over.

true-the long term harm is immeasurable

*proper limits.............. in your humble opinion.

the limits established by those who wrote it

no one can honestly believe that the commerce clause was an end around the tenth amendment or was designed to grant the federal government the power to regulate drugs or small arms

The New Deal which destroyed the proper limits on the federal government

Haha- so true. It completely changed the focus of our society from one of strength and a pioneering spirit, to one of dependence and weakness.

It created generations of the dependent and expanded the federal government into a runaway leach

So you believe that all the founding fathers were in favor of "small government"?
You believe that the new deal is "unconstitutional"? Sure parts of it were, but were struck down by the supreme court. But the new deal that was empowered was not.

Actually many people believe that.

I believe the CC was never designed to allow everything from the war on drugs to Title VII to bans on machine guns made after May 19 1986

Ok so it is your opinion. Thats all i asked.

Native Americans... though the Spanish were perhaps even more ruthless than the Americans/British.

Some of those on the list don't seem like a sin in the slightest. The American Revolution? The A-Bomb? What da hell?

I'm not religiously-bent, and don't tend to view the history of nations as sinful, so to me, it's not really a matter of America's greatest sin.

I was metaphorical, but I saved the "" signs. :) Hm, yes, slavery... :)

In modern times... I'd say hedonism and lack of self-control, and the balkanization of national identity and deconstruction of civic virtue.

1.)abortion
2.)ethnic cleansing of native Americans
3.)slavery
4.)Vietnam

Oh my,

There are quite a few choices that are correct. IOW, the U.S. (or more accurately - those in charge with the responsibility) committed or allowed it to happen. The two that are most certainly wrongs to me is what was done to the Native Americans and slavery - 'nuff said.

The way I see it, the FED would enslave everyone if it could, so the choice is easy, IMO.

Hard to pick, but I voted our decimation of Native Americans.

Slavery is a close second, but is not unique to America.

The Japanese nuclear bombing is a close third, but ish gets cray in a World War. Plus, it did put the final nail in the coffin for the Axis powers and ended the war for good. Also, in a twisted way, it might have benefited the world because showed us the horrors of nuclear weapons. One has to wonder how the Cold War might have gone had atomic bombs not been dropped on Japan.

That was a good one. I hadn't thought about it with those considerations. :)

I picked slavery because we are still living with it's effects 200 years later. Americans indians were robbed and treated as slaves so they are included in my pick.

There are few nasty sins that are ours. Sadly.
