Obama emerged as a real star out of the 2004 Democratic convention. Sarah Palin emerged out of the 2008 Republican convention. Will we see a similar star emerge this year?

Without knowing exactly who's speaking for sure yet, it's hard to say. But I think it's more likely than not that the media latches on to one of the speeches given, propelling that person to political "stardom."

Im sure all the conservatives will try to make the blowhard christie a star...christie and Donald Trump are one and the same...big mouths who thinks what they think is the only important thing

I despise Trump. I don't think Christie is as bad as he is. Christie at least makes sense with some things he says.

George P. Bush has a shot at it for the GOP.

Christie is already a rising star, Trump is an idiot. They are nothing alike.

Since when? I mean seriously. When was Obama ever a star prior to running for President?

I think he means politically.

It's an interesting question. Is Rubio speaking? Would either candidate want to be overshadowed by a speaker?

I think you may have slept through the convention...

I think a Democrat is more likely to have a standout moment than a Republican this year. Simply because we already know most of the people who are likely to talk at the Republican convention, and who are likely to be thinking of running in 2016. The potential Democratic candidates, by contrast, are more unknown and thus could have more of a standout moment if they give an effective speech.
