Hi,

I work for the state of Texas. I work with exconvicts on a daily basis. I was asked this question last week.

Who should I vote for? The man then said, "after Obama legalized millions of illegal aliens, there is no chance of me getting any kind of a blue collar job." He then said, "republicans hate us. What should I do."

I have to agree with him on Obama's decision to legalize the illegal aliens. Most exconvicts are blue collar workers. When released, what are they supposed to do for work?

I am NOT defending any exconvicts. I do believe they are still Americans. I also know that some crimes are worse than others. Fact is, most will be getting out regardless of what you think or what their crimes were.

Who should they vote for? Who would help them the most?

Thanks for your vote and your time.

Obama is NOT going to win Texas.

I don't care. The question is, who should they vote for? There are a lot of exconvicts in Texas. If they believe Obama will help them, that's thousands of extra voters. Same goes for Mitt Romney.

Didn't vote as being an exconvict should not be what decides who you vote for, it should be based on your personal political beliefs. if you are more left leanign then Obama isprobably the choice, more right leaning then probably Romney. Note the use of probably there are so many factors to consider it isn't that clear cut.

Sadly, nobody is really playing to the ex-convict interest group in the political realm.

The best an ex convict can do is look at other issues and pick the guy who best supports their stance on those issues.

Until we have an era in this country where prison and justice system reform are "hot button" issues, the ex-cons will be overlooked repeatedly as a politically advantageous subgroup.

There's always Welfare, and which president would be more inclined to hand out free passes?

Tell them to find a 3rd party candidate.

How about they research the candidates and vote according to their interests and conscience?

Crazy talk, I know.

Yup thats crazy talk!!
I`m all for jamesrage idea, or better yet they can start their own party the penal party! jailhouse rock could be their theme music, they could use a zebra as their mascot.

If this thread wasn't so intellectually disingenuous, it would actually be cute. A closet Republican pitting illegal immigrants against ex-convicts, as if Republicans have ever really cared about either.

Obama by a mile. The Obama administration has gone to extraordinary lengths to help ease the path back in to society for ex convicts.

The right has been fighting against it tooth and nail. It is one of those things that is just too complicated for Republicans to understand. They just think "ex con = bad, so no help" and they're done thinking on it. In reality, of course, ex cons that don't manage to find jobs and reintegrate reoffend.

Excons are more likely to vote for dems so some GOP states try to strip them of voting rights. They should vote for whoever they think will be better for the economy.

I am of the opinion that ex-convicts shouldn't be allowed to vote to begin with, but I digress.

If a person is a murderer, he'll be in prison and parole for life, and therefore never have the right to vote since they're debt can never be paid in full.

The question here isn't people in prison. It's EX-Cons.

Alright then. Child molesters shouldn't be allowed to vote because they should be executed.

Oh - subjective hyperbolic nonsense? Okay then.

we should check with the experts. The DNC is pushing for laws allowing excons to vote. Why? because the DNC believes most felons would vote den if they could and would. Stanford Law Professor and far lefty Pamela Karlan spoke at U of Cincinnati Law school within a couple years of the Bush win over Gore. She was trying to get felons the right to vote again and she noted that if Florida felons had been able to vote Gorebot would have won by thousands and thousands of votes BECAUSE FELONS STRONGLY identify with the Dem agenda

Why should people lose their rights after they've repaid their debt?

Do you feel the same way about 2nd amendment rights too?

I do. ALL rights should be immediately and automatically restored upon completion of one's sentence. No waiting period. No application & approval process. Immediate and automatic.
