Re: Is paying your taxes Patriotic?

No. We don't all have to pay for them. About half of us are paying for them, and the others are along for the ride.

Actually, everybody does pay taxes. Even the indigent pay sales tax when they buy whatever it is they buy. The ones that drink and smoke also pay extra taxes that are usually hidden in cost. Nothing in this nation is free of tax, and nobody can live here without paying one tax or another, one way or another.

Re: Is paying your taxes Patriotic?

NO sir.. you seem to miss the point. I am not debating weather or not it is illegal. I fully realize that you can do this legally and many people do. The question Mr.Turtledude is not weather it is illegal or not, Is this patriotic, is this moral, is this fulfilling your duty as a United States citizen, is this something that a PRESIDENT should be doing?

if its patriotic for almost half the country to pay no federal income taxes while often voting for more and more government and for those who want to raise MY taxes to pay for it then it is even more patriotic for someone who carries the load for thousands to avoid some taxes legally.

Any person who pays more than he has to is too stupid for me to vote for president

Re: Is paying your taxes Patriotic?

SO much less in actual dollars, but in percentage of what I make, I am willing to bet anything I pay more in the "real feel" tax. Meaning What I make and what I pay in, effects me more than Mr. Romney.

so what he pays more in a month than you probably will pay in a decade. He gets far far far far less than you do

ability to pay is not the most important fact

and guess what-if you cannot pay for what you want what in God's name gives you a moral right to demand more and demand others pay for it

they often pay those sales taxes with money GIVEN to them by the government meaning us net tax payers are actually paying the taxes incurred by those people

Re: Is paying your taxes Patriotic?

Hypothetically, Romney makes 150 million a year.. Lets say he pays 50% tax, that still 75 million he gets to take to the bank. I make 50k a year and bring home 25k. Who has the higher tax burden?

he does 75 million is much more money than 25K

it would be like saying he pays 10% of his income for a lexus and you pay 10% of your income for a lexus. who paid more for the car?

You welfare socialists never take into account that he pays millions of dollars more for the same benefits you pay very little for

He's still taking home 75 MILLION DOLLARS (Dr.EVil).. He can live a hell of a lot easier than I can on 25k.. So no, the tax burden on me is higher.

and a cheeseburger cost him far less than it does to you

but why should he pay more-you each get the same value

you are engaging in the marxist nonsense that ability to pay is all that matters

Re: Is paying your taxes Patriotic?

It is patriotic to pay taxes as it is for America.

I personally believe that the wealthiest Americans should pay higher tax rates. No, I don't whine because they have more money than me and I don't think that the current taxes are unfair. Personally, I couldn't care less about fairness, it's all about practicallity. What is our debt, $16 trill? We need EVERY penny we can get. Yes, we also need to make cuts in almost every department that we throw money into. Welfare, defemse, entitlements, everything. We spend far too much and bring in too little.

so you believe those who DRIVE the federal spending idiocy should pay far more taxes so they stop demanding more government?

that's the only way we can use the tax code to stop the deficit madness because doubling the taxes on the top one percent might pay 7 days of the current spending nonsense

Re: Is paying your taxes Patriotic?

Romney refuses to release his tax returns, which 30 years of candidates have done before him. That to me is "hiding".

So you are now claiming that the IRS is covering something up? Because if there was something wrong in them, they'd go after him, right? Should this whole thread be moved to the CT forum?

So now you are suggesting that you get to decided that he has 'enough' money? How arrogant of you.

I make 50k a year and bring home 25k.

You are doing it wrong. I would expand upon that theme a bit, but that is against the rules.

Our crazy spending definitely needs to be stopped yes and our government needs to bring in more money yes

That argument is ridiculous. No one is saying he should pay more for a damn cheeseburger. We are not talking cheeseburgers or bought and sold goods.. we are talking tax burden and stashing money in offshore accounts. Big difference.

Re: Is paying your taxes Patriotic?

bringing in more money won't help anything

only making big spenders an endangered class in DC will help

and how do you do that-not by taxing the rich more but making those who are currently pandered to by promises of more spending become adverse to that spending

IF THE MIDDLE CLASS-the people who drive the political spending-were to get hit with massive tax increases every time the government spends more-well the politicians who try to buy the MC votes would start losing elections

if there was no withholding and everyone had to write out a check for their entire IRS bill the day before the elections are held we'd have a far far far smaller government

as long as he pays more taxes than you do-you have no standing whatsoever to whine.

its time you start paying as much as he does

That would be playing a dangerous game of chicken with the middle class. If the already disappearing middle class completely vanishes, expect a bigger recession, maybe even depression.

how are you going to cut down on too much government unless pandering to the masses by promising them more government goodies becomes a losing election strategy?

Education. Obviously there are some people that understand the out of control spending of government so why not everyone

dropping out of school is one of the main things most likely to guarantee poverty. your solution for that?

Re: Is paying your taxes Patriotic?

btw-the party that wins elections when lots of people are under educated is the same party that has the teachers' unions as major organs

see the problem?

Re: Is paying your taxes Patriotic?

Why should we have the choice to drop out? As an industrialized nation, a high school education (at a minimum) is a must. If we HAVE to buy health insurance, then it wouldn't be too much of a step to force at least a highschool level education

so we shoot or incarcerate HS dropouts?
