Is Mitt Romney a Liberal?

Is Mitt Romney a Liberal?

if a conservative was a member of a union and supported union labor within his or her company, would that individual then be accurately defined as a liberal?

Not necessarily. Possibly though.

Mitt Romney is liberal in a lot of issues. If he was only liberal at one or two issues then it could be argued that he was a moderate.

Moderates are like Unicorns. They may have existed at one time but there aren't any real ones around these days.

Romney's a sound choice given the star wars bar collection of posters whining against him in this thread. far left, fascist right and just plain bat crap crazy conspiracy nuts all dislike Mitt.

This is like saying that Chevys are good cars because nobody likes them.

To answer the OP...would you LIKE him to be? Cuz...sure...

I believe Romney is neither liberal nor conservative, he will take the position that is political expedient at the time. When he ran against Ted Kennedy he professed to be more liberal than him, now that he is the presumptive nominee of the Republican party for president he has taken conservative positions. He just wants to be president and he will say anything in order to fulfill that task. He wants desperately to do what his father was unsuccessful at doing.

Come now TD...he may be this years version of the "I'm not Bush" candidate and by comparison a better option than Obama to some...but still...

Where are the "I have no clue" and "It depends on what year it is" options?

not true-most of the whining about Romney comes from the butt hurt hate the rich losers or the social fascists. You have been around long enough to understand that the two political groups I despise the most are the butt hurt whiners who bitch about the rich followed closely by the social fascists who want to reinstitute the Spanish Inquisition in 21st century America

Maybe for you folks who have no Principles or Standards; but for those of us who do it's totally true.

Because that makes no sense. Then anyone who is a liberal who has one conservative value is a conservative. At least for those of us who have Principles or Standards...

That's fine. If you believe Liverals have standards you're not worth talking to anyway.

Seriously dood...with your view on people, politics, and relationships...which cave do you live in?

Bro...you might wanna correct that typo before people pounce all over it. ;)

Like a good number of other Republican career politicians, he is a liberal who stands to gain by convincing large numbers of people he's not a liberal.

Well he IS pandering to the rich so I would expect you to fawn over him. I bet you'd even convert to Mormonism if it wasn't for that "tithing" thing. Can you believe he gives over $2 million a year to the Mormon Church?

He is a liberal republican in the aspect that one is a moderate in the party. It's an older debate stretching the mid20th century onward

Which means he's not a Conservative at all. Being Liberal on even one issue makes you a Liberal in whole.

Romney is a liberal on many issues.

He signed anti-gun legislation into law while he was governor.

He campaigned as a pro-choice candidate.

He raised taxes as governor.

He created RomneyCare.

Not that a radical right exists, but you didn't notice his struggles with Gingrich or Huckabee?

Yeah, it's a reactionary Right.

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and acts like a duck then chances are it is a duck. Only a ****en moron, a liar or someone who has been living under a rock for the paste 20 years thinks Romney is not a liberal.

8. Gov. Mitt Romney (Mass.)
Has said, “I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country.” Supports civil unions and stringent gun laws. After visiting Houston, he criticized the city’s aesthetics, saying, “This is what happens when you don’t have zoning.”

The Mitt Romney Deception
Despite recent statements across the country by Governor Mitt Romney claiming he's pro-life, pro-family and a committed conservative, a broad investigation of his actual statements, actions, and public positions over the years indicates that he has spent his entire career speaking and governing as a liberal - and that his new found conversion to conservatism very likely coincides with his candidacy for the presidency.

Pro-illegal immigration
Lawn work at Romney's home still done by illegal immigrants - Local News Updates - The Boston Globe
Standing on stage at a Republican debate on the Gulf Coast of Florida last week, Mitt Romney repeatedly lashed out at rival Rudy Giuliani for providing sanctuary to illegal immigrants in New York City.

Yet, the very next morning, on Thursday, at least two illegal immigrants stepped out of a hulking maroon pickup truck in the driveway of Romney's Belmont house, then proceeded to spend several hours raking leaves, clearing debris from Romney's tennis court, and loading the refuse back on to the truck.

In fact, their work was part of a regular pattern. Despite a Globe story in Dec. 2006 that highlighted Romney's use of illegal immigrants to tend to his lawn, Romney continued to employ the same landscaping company -- until today. The landscaping company, in turn, continued to employ illegal immigrants.

Why We Hate Mitt Romney So Much :: :: FITSNewsFITSNews
Seriously, if this guy isn’t struck by lightning at some point during the 2008 campaign there’s no justice in the world. After all, it’s one thing to flip-flop on every issue under the sun in an effort to fool people into thinking you’re something you’re not, but Romney is now taking the art of bull***** to a whole new level - attacking people for doing the same stuff he did.

Romney’s latest swipe alleges that Hizzoner Giuliani is “soft on immigration” because he turned New York into a “sanctuary city” for illegal immigrants.

Of course what Romney failed to mention was that three cities in Massachusetts formally declared themselves to be “sanctuary cities” (i.e. cities that promise to provide government services to illegal immigrants) during his term as governor, and Romney did absolutely nothing about it.

Sanctuary Cities Under Romney

But Giuliani's campaign said that Romney's aggressive charge on this issue is inconsistent with Romney's record. While governor of Massachusetts from 2003 until 2007, three cities in Romney's home state – Somerville, Cambridge, and Orleans -- either declared or reissued declarations stating that they are in essence sanctuary cities.

I hope there are a lot of Conservatives out there who believe this and choose to sit this election out. Nothing would please me more.

What do you mean believe this? Are you suggesting that none of this stuff is true? BTW I do want Romney to lose. Romney winning means the republican party goes further and further to the left.

Realize that while we're not voting many of us are sitting around reloading machines and shooting ranges to correct the mistakes of those who are voting.

Very shameful to purport to uphold freedom by planning to deprive citizens of their lives because they exercised their freedom to vote.

Where have I EVER suggested that I'm a proponent of Freedom?

I like him myself. I'm just honest about him. He's applying for a job. I'm the one who is making the hiring decision along with my colleagues, other Americans, and we're discussing his application. Do we hire him or to we renew Mr. Obama's contract for another 4 years?
