And using their anthem would?Yeah, but you wouldn't piss off the Canadians.
They might think it a compliment. :2razz:

Yeah but...if we use these songs as our anthem, we're going to have a bunch of people with sore throats from trying to growl/scream/howl the lyrics.

The goal should be making sure everyone is offended and unhappy. Thus, I nominate Oh Canada as the new US national anthem.
I like the Star Spangled Banner and do not think it should be changed. Regardless of what we pick someone is going to be offended or not happy.
Who would find This Land is Your Land to be offensive?
Who would find This Land is Your Land to be offensive?
Indians, I suppose.
Those not within the bounds of California to New York (like those in Hawaii, Alaska and New England). Some people might have an issue with the song saying the land was "made" too. I think there are people who just chose to be offended and will be offended by anything.
If we said to the native Americans, this land is your land, they would be offended?
I'm sure the guys still living in reservation territories would be thrilled.
Perhaps we should make amends then.
Why do some people feel this incessant need to "change" everything?
Not everyone likes the Star Spangled Banner. For one thing, it's hard to sing. It starts low and goes way up. It's also a song about war. That's why some people are in favor of us switching to America the Beautiful or some other song. However, for all its faults, the Star Spangled Banner is a catchy tune that stays in your head, and we've always been able to find singers who can handle it. I have mixed feelings. I like the song, but I wouldn't be mad if we switched to America the Beautiful. Vote what you think.
The star spangled banner is too hard to sing. America the beautiful is alright, but it's not awesome enough. God bless America would cause an enormous ****storm. Therefore, it should either be America **** Yeah! or we should come up with something new. Maybe we could let Ted Nugent write something.
And we poor bastards languishing in the middle without a place to go think change can be either good OR bad, depending on WHAT the change is.We forgot conservatives fear change.

Which is an extremely obvious statement, seemingly often drowned out by those on the edge yelling that the other edge either likes or dislikes all change.
:rantoff:
Actually, it hasn't been the anthem for 200 years. It became the official anthem in 1931.
We forgot conservatives fear change.
Whichever one annoys liberals the most should be our national anthem.
Indians, I suppose.
