Your opinion on media coverage of the Trayvon Martin case

This is mine...

Considering that we live in a world where thousands of people die every day due to war, famine, drought, and disease, why the incessant uproar over the (possible) murder of one teenager?

Thoughts?

Extremely biased on both sides.

media is like a monster...

Re: Your opinion on media coverage of the Trayvon Martin case

When it appeared it was being ignored by the authorities, it deserved the media attention. But now that it is being acted on, it is just another criminal case. Let me know when there is a verdict, but other than that I don't care.

I agree. I think the only issue I take with the case is the almost immediate division between the right and left over this case. How could this possibly break down those lines? How is it almost every issue seems to? It makes no sense to me.

I purposefully ignore media coverage of the case.... mainly because I don't care about the case whatsoever, and secondarily, the media coverage of most things is ****.

I don't follow news coverage of this case. That's what I have DP for. :)

So, since it appeared that it was being ignored by the authorities, that gave the media the responsibility to distort the facts?

Re: Your opinion on media coverage of the Trayvon Martin case

Honestly, the only media coverage I get is that which others post here.

After Nancy Grace and her idiotic coverage of the Casey Anthony trial I gave up on media accounts of criminal controversies.

Don't get conned by the media. Applies to all cases.

It has everything for people to rail about. Guns, media bias...So obviously the right is going to line up for guns and against the media, and the left is going to look with skepticism on anybody who feels that they need a gun when they go to Target.

Re: Your opinion on media coverage of the Trayvon Martin case

The trayvon case is basically judging whether murder is not murder...

Because last I checked someone got murdered...

Of course not. The media has done a horrible job and has been doing so for a long time. The days of true investigative journalism have been replaced by news “commentary” in today’s 24 hour news cycle.

IMO, "not caring" is the worst possible thing....even worse than the so-called "media coverage".
I agree (media coverage) , our media is largely based on profit and sensationalism and has little to be proud of......nor can many of us hold our heads high.

IN truth, it has been "OK" for hundreds of years to murder black teenagers in out nation...Its good, of course, that this is coming to and end.
"hyperbole" ?
Exactly what is this - and why ??

To be fair and balanced about this, IMO, Mr Martin was killed, rather than murdered....At the trial, muder/kill can be determined - hopefully.
And, I feel that this need not have occured if we had gun control in our nation...
That Mr Zimmermann was able to pack heat tells me that we have no gun control.... at least in Florida...

Re: Your opinion on media coverage of the Trayvon Martin case

it's a real tragedy with no winners regardless of how it turns out.

as for media coverage, some are obviously biased towards convicting Zimmerman in the court of public opinion, and Fox news has never spent this much time and effort trying to exonerate a Hispanic man. CNN coverage has been so-so.

Re: Your opinion on media coverage of the Trayvon Martin case

The media draw, of the Zimmerman/Martin 'case' is based on many factors. The initial media allegation that it was a racially motivated murder or execution was one. The initial media allegation that 'stand your ground' laws permit the armed to execute the unarmed for 'no reason' except fear is another. As the facts finally emerge, it may fade from the news, as neither of these primary 'assumptions' seem to have played out well. I see this case as a legitimate use of deadly force in self defense, not a 'murder' at all. The issue of 'profiling' is still a central point of many that argue, regardless of ANY other facts, that had Martin not been a young black male, dressed as he was, none of this would have occured. Perhaps there is some validity to that argument, yet very little, IMHO. As evidenced by the description of the 'suspect' used on the police dispacther tapes, behavior played a significant role of the action/reaction of both Zimmerman and Martin. Zimmerman took the 'aimless wandering' of Martin as a sign that he may be 'up to no good', while Martin took the surveillance by Zimmerman as a threat, or sign of disrespect. Nobody, so far, has claimed to have seen (or heard) the initial meeting of Martin and Zimmerman, the key to the 'confrontation'. Zimmerman asserts that Martin attacked (jumped?) him from behind as he was returning to his vehicle and continued to assault him until he used his handgun to stop him. The Martin 'defense' will almost have to be that Martin was 'provoked' into taking that defensive action against the threat/force shown by Zimmerman. I think that Martin, the highschool athlete, decided that he would teach that 'nosy' Zimmerman a lesson about 'eyeing' or 'dissing' such a macho man as he deemed himself to be. You do not bring skittles and an attitude to a gunfight twice.
