almost every year my income goes up

of course my arthritic knees are getting worse

its about a draw

I think the country is in about the same shape as it was three years ago

I am not to badly hurt by this because I planned for my retirement with the possibility of never getting SS......To get it is a pleasant surprise.....I worry about my shipmates who did not do the planning I did and under Hussein Obama and his Administration a lot of them are hurting..............

10 to 5 votes along partisan lines.........I have seen polls on the national level its close to 70% saying they are worse off and are not happy with the direction this country is going...........It shows how far DP is off on the issue and that the left in here just love Hussein Obama and believe he could do no wrong............It also shows that no matter how much the Mods say that DP is pretty much split GOP and DEMS that is far from true.....

Personally, I am. In terms of the country as a whole, I'd say no.

It's a brilliant campaign line, but sometimes, depending on who you ask, you get strange answers.

Personally yes I'm much better off in just about everyway possible. Plus the country isn't in a full blown depression so that's something.

Happy so many of you are better off today....hope our situation changes soon!

Sir...

Your question was "are you better off then you were 3 years ago".

Not "Do you like Obama"

Not "Will you vote for Obama".

If people are better off, they're better off, doesn't have to have anything to do with Obama...

Would you prefer there be less people better off?

Sounds kinda.... socialist

He's just trying to play off the old Reagan slogan, which is ridiculous because Romney isn't Reagan and the 80's will never happen again just like any decade will never be the same as another.

Yep, and the funny part is the way the GOP has gone, Reagan would be considered way too liberal to get the GOP nomination if he were alive today.

No, I am not, though I'm not bad off, either.

Reasons are complex, and not necessarily totally related to our current President*. Possibly partially, but not totally.

*- Guessing the OP's hidden meaning based on past posts and time frame of 3 years.

They say no COLA because the cost of living did not go up..........I would love to show them my crocery bill.........

Umm how exactly do you think COLA is determined? Do you think Obama and his advisors sit down every year and decide "Meh, I don't think the cost of living went up that much. No COLA this year."? Are you aware that there are actual statistical measures of cost of living adjustments which are used every year, REGARDLESS of who the president is? And that those actual statistical measures are more accurate than your anecdotal experience? After all, it doesn't sound like you're exactly a financial guru. Consider the following:

My stock portforlio is about where it was 3 years ago so I have only hold my own there

WTF? The DJIA and S&P are both up 60% in the last three years. You could have made a crapload of money if you had just stuck your money in an index fund and done NOTHING. What the hell were you investing in? For that matter, why is a man your age even engaging in high-risk speculation in the first place?

I think one thing we all need to remember is that most, not all, but most people posting on this website are going to say things are better than they were 3 years ago. Someone who is worse off, struggling to feed their family, struggling to pay the bills, is not going to have the time or inclination to get on the internet and post about politics. I could be wrong, just my opinion.
I will say some things are better, some are worse. As a Christian, its very inconsiderate of me to doubt the path my Lord has taken me on. That would mean I doubt His will for my life.
However, I can comment on the direction and path of others lol. I will say that our gov't has leveled out it's craziness in preparation for the elections. I can't remember the last time so many controversies hit at the same time though. Trayvon Martin, the Secret Service, the GSA trips, the numerous incidents in Afghanistan, it's been crazy. I would say I'm better off than I was 3 years ago. I would say the country in general is much worse.

NP-
I don't think there is an imbalance in this forum, I have seen many, many 'conservatives' post in many, many threads. Perhaps your fellow 'conservatives' are just ignoring you? Seems a possibility...

Perhaps 'conservative' enthusiasum is much lower than moderate, progressive, liberal outlook.

I am better off now than 3 years ago mostly because after BushII I figured no one could stop another great depression. That we are not makes me feel 122% better.

I don't see Willard doing any better for your 'shipmates'. He doesn't have a lot of empathy for anyone below NASCAR Owner.

I'm surprised NP is so concerned about his 'shipmates' that fail to plan for their retirement like he did. He has shown utter distain for those who fail to plan in the past.

I doubt anyone really thinks we can put humpty Dumpty back together in 3 years, it took decades to remove enough jinga sticks to do the damage done.

Do you know what the Dow was at the end of the DOT COM era.....

Lower than it is today. When do you think the DOT COM era ended? (Hint: It was before Bush even took office)

You can't figure it half way my friend......

Don't you do that with gas prices, though?

I mean, it's not like we didn't see more than $4 a gallon 4 years ago (July of 2008), but when you talk about it, it's the magical January 2009 number which was caused by the tanking of the economy that happened in October of 2008 (read: before Obama was even elected).

As I said in another thread, if you want to see cheaper gas, root for another economic collapse.

You ask if people are better off now than they were three years ago ,and seem upset that quite a number of us here are in fact doing better.
I guess this thread didn't turn into the "Obama Hatefest" you seem to be aiming at.

Sorry to add to your disappointment but I and my family are doing a lot better then we were 3 years aqo.
My primary resturant posted it's best year in profits last year, and this quarters profits has been the best since opening in 1994.My 2 other resturants have shown steady growth for the last 3 years, and I am about to open up a fourth one in Vegas, this coming August. My catering company gearing up for what looks like to be a very busy summer.
Thanks to my stock broker my investments and stocks are doing nicely.

Me and my (2nd) wife (first one was killed by a drunk driver in 96) are just about to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary in June and we plan to renow our wesdding vows.

My eldest daughter gave birth to twins last year, the middle daughter is about to graduate Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, and my youngest is gping to Tulane Medical next year.
My wife's medical practice is doing nicely. She broke her leg playing raquetball a couple of months bac,but the leg is healing nicely and the cast should come off in a couple of weeks.

I've also lost 50 pounds and I quit smoking 2 years ago.

I attribute my family and I's prosperity and well being to our hard work and careful planning.
Obama and his administration had nothing to do with it.

To be fair to NP, I think he means flat over the past four years during which the major stock indices have been relatively unchanged.

MUCH better now dispite the rightwing efforts to keep sticking it up my ass.

We won't get fooled again. (At least not for a few more years until everyone forgets what turmoil the GOP causes. But it will only take 2-4 years to remind us again. by now you would have think we already should have learned.)

And the beat goes on. Life is GREAT in America. Thank you President Obama.

my life gets better and better... and has been getting better, year in and year out, since the early 90's.

no credit (or blame) for my lot in life goes to any politician or political party though...none of them had any real impact on my choices.

I don't care if Jesus is the Prez, or Attila the Hun... i'm going to do my thing, and i'm going to succeed...
that's a philosophy i've held for many decades, and will continue to hold until i exit the pool.

April 2009, Pasch is still in college and the future is bright and exciting.

April 2012, Pasch has gone through two years of law school after his bachelor's degree getting him only slightly better than minimum wage. Pasch is way further in debt now, and is really hoping that he'll be able to find work once he has a graduate level degree, support himself, and pay off his loans.

I kinda approach it much like you actually. I have been sucessful regardless of politics. But I have been notably more sucessful during democrat presidencies. Not really sure if it's coincidence or actually because democrats make better president's. I just know my portfolio goes UP under democrats and DOWN under republicans.

Life is good when your healthy and everyday is saturday :)
