No, we shouldn't get rid of pennies.

Rather, we should make them out of a cheaper material than copper.

Or they could make them from plastic, just like twiddley-winks.
Obviously, we need reform/improvement here.
Do away with the obsolete penny, do away with the silliness of one tenth of a penny(gasoline for one)..This had a reason for being ,about 100 years ago.
Even Canada is more advanced than we are.

If you're not going to do a real poll, I'm not even going to bother with the thread.

funny - I'm opposite: I tend ot ignore polls and only respond to the op.

any currency that costs more than its actual value, should be scapped.

pennies...even nickels.

its not that hard to round up at 5 and higher..and round down at 4 and lower.

I do the same thing. Polls usually inspire the best debate on this website IMO.

Army? BOOOOO! Just kidding. Is he still active?

He's both - in and out. . . he's served in a variety of ways over the years - he started out Airborne - was out for a while and came back in - he's a specialist so he floats around a lot - he deployed with different units across branches so he's not pegged down. . . and now he's IRR

Ahh, understood. Been with a few guys like him. I'll leave it alone lol.

LOL - life of service, always waffling on whether he was to stay in or leave . . . he jokes that he's homeless without a unit.

Getting rid of pennies is not "advanced". It's a reflection of how worthless currencies are due to the financial malpractice of those in charge. The annoyance of pennies should be a reminder of this and the more worthless a penny becomes the better it is for them to stay. To get rid of pennies is to prevent negative headlines about how much it costs to make pennies. To get rid of pennies is to take pressure off the state.

Why?So that the government and private business can track your spending habits?

Crypto-currencies maintained by cloud computing do not track spending habits or anything like that.

Maybe everyone should be concerned in general about the rising cost of copper and other mined ores and minerals that we rely on for many things in life - and then figure out how to bring it down.

If they focused on the source of the issue they'd actually get somewhere. . . simply tyring to get rid of the penny won't make copper cheaper

no.. no... you dont get it weight vs value of the penny in transportation, cost of the coin in its materials... etc... economy wide.

theres a trillion smart reasons to get rid of the penny.

They already do. WELCOME TO THE INTERNET.

Someone approximated the total value of a persons basic information to be worth $500 a person by the best estimate.

As in... fair pay for divulging ALL of your basic data is $500... several years ago.

If you use a credit card then they can track what you spend

Crypto-currencies do not use credit cards. The only information the magnetic strip would have is the encrypted data that the cloud can use to verify the funds available and an encrypted pin to access it.

If they are worth more than a penny, then why would anyone return them ?

If the government could produce them for less than a penny then they might even turn a profit.

yeah must be at least 25$

Hey - I'm not stupid.

I'm hoarding pennies too - I must have like $10.00 worth. in 200 yeras long after I'm dead they'll be worth 3x's as much - more if they do axe the penny completely.

I agree with those that think we should keep them and just make them out of a cheaper material... it makes no sense for them to worth less then the materials they are made out of.

If things keep going as they are, coined currency of any kind will disappear. It just won't make economical sense because of the cost of metals. But I think that currency as a whole needs to be done away with. The technology exist to live without hard cash currency.
