Would you go to war to defend the USA?

Would you go to war to defend the USA? (Americans only, please)

I'm a *****, straight up. I would be more than happy to support America's defense via actions at home, but I'd never make it in a war zone. I would also clarify, the war itself is important. I'm not going to stand up and support us just 'cause we've decided to fight....the fight has to have some validity. After D-Day? Yes. Iraq/Afghanistan? Yes. Syria/Libya? No.

I know you thought that was my point, thus my comment about the ACTUAL point sailing clean over your head. :lamo

I don't want your comments, you have nothing valid to offer...
please note you value the wealth of the rich over the benefit of your own nation-state.
perhaps something for you to recall in the future. :)

;)

The idea of the continental US ever being invaded is pretty... well... impossible to dumb.

And you continue to miss my point while contradicting yourself -- if you didn't "want my comments," you wouldn't have responded three times. :lamo

I am currently serving in the Army and have been to Afghanistan, but that has virtually nothing to do with "defending the USA." So clearly since I've gone to war or served in a government-building peacekeeping operation or whatever you want to define Afghanistan as, I would say it's probably a safe bet to say I'd stand up and defend the US, were it actually being attacked by someone.

The part that worries me is military action that is not for defending the USA.

It was, and that's why we're in Afghanistan.

that's why we're in Afghanistan.

Yeah, we were attacked by people who planned their attack in the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan, so that's naturally why we invaded the country and overthrew the Taliban. That was in 2001 and was completed before our country rang in the New Year in 2002. It's irrelevant to today.

You may disagree with the idea of trying to build a self-sustaining democracy in Afghanistan, but that doesn't make it irrelevant.

I have very traditional values, including the belief in men representing and protecting their loved ones. I am also a very logical thinker. Thus, especially in a war, people should apply their strengths. I would be willing to defend my country in a war, but would serve best as a military strategist.

No, the mission was to break up Al Qaeda. The Taliban were asked to join us in that mission more than once before we invaded. It wasn't until last year that we completed the mission and shortly afterward we started to withdraw. It's a lot of troops and equipment with very poor supply routes. It's going to take time to get everything and everyone safely out.

No, I just disagree with pumping tons of money into a corrupt, tribal people who don't believe in a centralized government. When we announced we would have a partnership through at least 2014, I swear, if you listened closely you could probably hear the sounds of Russian laughter. Be that as it may, "trying to build a self-sustaining democracy in Afghanistan" has nothing to do with "defending the USA."
