If Zimmerman took an independent polygraph test...

If George Zimmerman took a polygraph and passed, would you believe his story?

The vote is "other"..
Apparently, these polygraph tests do not work, are not admissible..It matters not if I believe him or not.
The thing is, and the the question should be : should the Zimmermans of this world be allowed to own and use guns ?
Further : should America continue to be a backward nation...
In other words, the guns must go !
And then, the Martins would still be here.

Were you taught logic at a bar or something? Maury and Joe Ross are TV shows. There is no such thing as a lie detector test. Actually, polygraphy is pretty much a pseudoscience.
Scary that one would think think that a TV show is real life...close at times...but not reliable.
I think these lie detectors are from a previous century...along with torture....
That some still cling to these......

Certainly you're not silly enough to believe that.

You forgot knives, people stab and kill. In other words, knives must go, and the Martins would still be here. Oh and cars kill, have to ban them too.

Hands and feet can kill, so can string/wires/rope, pencils, scissors... hell, even a soup spoon could kill... gotta ban all that stuff man. All of it's gotta go.

Most would have to work at with those things, some more than others. Killing someone should be work.

I believe Zimmerman believes he was right and was acting in self defense. So I don't think a polygraph is going to reveal anything.

The problem is, I also believe Zimmerman injected himself unnecessarily into an innocent situation and probably caused Martin to feel like he was physically in danger. I think they both probably acted in self defense, but the whole situation was instigated without warrant by Zimmerman, which in my opinion makes him guilty of manslaughter, or at least should be held civilly liable.

But that's just my opinion based on what I've read.

I wonder if any moderation is possible. But not in a SYGL country where everyone should have a gun.

Of course, I believe that, can it be any more obvious ?
Well, maybe not to a conservative, living in a world of denial...or do you buy that crap, guns don't kill, people do.....
Like Zimmerman could have murdered Martin with his bare hands ????
I'd say - compare the English and American murder rates...but this, this too is silly, isn't it ???

If he passed an independant as well as a monitored by authorities polygraph, I would believe him.

Of course, there are those who will not believe it no matter what.

He could pass a dozen lie detector tests and Al Sharpton and his ilk would never admit they were wrong.

But, somehow, I don't think Zimmerman will be taking any polygraphs anytime soon. Naturally, his lawyer will advise him not too. And I'm sure that's the excuse he'll use to avoid the test.

If he was all that innocent, he would be INSISTING on taking a lie detector test. I know I would.

When you make a post like this you are arguing about the results and offering a contrary position w/o much data. And the contrary position isn't actually achievable. But a SYGL promoted by the NRA presents an opportunity to illustrate going overboard in one direction. Given Zimmerman's personality someone could get him to follow them and shoot him in 'self-defense' and use the SYGL as required if it went that far. This blatantly illustrates the opportunity for more legal use of guns. This should make the pure pro-gun folks consider some moderation.
BTW, I'm a supporter of "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

If the polygraph says he's telling the truth, I'd believe it.

Ever seen the show Judge Ross? Or Maury or Steve Wilkos?

They all use lie detectors.

Why exactly is this guy any different?

You believe what you see on those shows? Seriously?

I don't know about the other two, but from what I've seen of Steve Wilkos, most of it is pretty obviously staged. You'd have to be pretty stupid to think that anything on that show reflects anything having to do with actual reality. Lacking any solid evidence to the contrary, I would have to assume that the other two shows you mention are the same.

If you ever heard the Phil Hendrie radio show, you probably believed all of it was real too.

That doesn't contradict what I said at all. If you can keep your autonomic nervous system responses controlled, you can pass a polygraph test while lying.

Sorry,
Speed reading has it's drawbacks.

IMO, that logic fails - if I'm innocent, last thing I'd want is for it to be "proven" or "disproven" using something as potentially flawed - and rarely admissible in court, if ever - as that.

Are you really arguing that the innocent should go for it, otherwise they're not? Or am I looking too deeply into it?

I agree with you in regards to the evasion of privacy. And it would definitely have to be a dire situation for me to ever compromise my rights and submit to a polygraph.

I think this guys situation definitely qualifies as "dire," would you not agree?

You may be looking to deep into it. I dunno.

It's not that easy, imo, to call it. Steve Wilkos is iffy, but shows like Judge Kevin Ross and Maury routinely use polygraph tests. Iirc, Dr, Phil, the Jeremy Kyle show, and quite a few others use them as well. If it's all staged, and unreliable, then we'd have to admit that none of these shows should be using them because people could have their lives ruined. If not even polygraph tests used by reputable judges should be admitted, then perhaps none should be used at all. That leaves the decision hanging by whatever the jury decides, and they're aren't always right, either.

You seem to have missed my point.

You're citing TV shows in which people appear with fictional dramas, staged for entertainment purposes, and assuming that anything that you see on these shows with regard to these dramas, or how they are allegedly explored and resolved, has anything to do with how anything works in reality. That polygraphs appear to work in such a fictitious setting, with reliable results, is not any kind of evidence that they work nearly so well in actual use. You might as well cite the story of Peter Pan as evidence that fairies are real.

You seem to be failing to understand the difference between the reality in which we all live and function, and obviously-fictional TV shows created strictly for entertainment purposes.

The polygraph is pseudoscience and should be illegal to use for anything other than a parlor trick. There is no such thing as a machine that can detect lies or truth.

The fact that many people still refer to it as a "lie detector" test is telling at how many are still conned regarding it's usefulness and accuracy.

I like your 'parlor trick' phrasing, btw.

Zimmerman did take one, his lawyers suggested it and * donations paid for it, and he failed. I strongly suspect that his lawyers wouldn't have been nearly so quiet about it if he's passed. ( *donations from __Neo-Nazi friends of George Zimmerman__ and from innocent people who donated to Zimmerman in response to fake news stories, manufactured and circulated by __Neo-Nazi friends of George Zimmerman__, that Trayvon Martin had been found to have a criminal past, fake news stories that guns and drugs were found in Trayvon Martin's car ~ Trayvon was indeed barely old enough to have a driver's permit, but he didn't have a car~ and fake news stories that a star witness, his identity kept secret for reasons of his safety, backs up Zimmerman's story ~ the police tried very hard to find the star witness, and did track down the source of his stories, Zimmerman himself~ )

If only Zimmerman was an accomplished necromancer...

Then no one would be the wiser, at least for a bit.

Unlike AW76 and this thread.

Oh, no doubt. Since so many naively believe polygraphs are somehow God's word itself, the defense was probably hoping he'd pass so they could trumpet it from the heavens. That's a strong strategy... providing it works out the way intended.
