I agree minimum wage or some derivative thereof should be a living wage.
Well, I'm against the concept of minimum wage, as I am other economic inefficiencies that can be labeled as ceilings or floors.
In the 90's, hell, even for most of Bush's terms, I might have agreed with this. In today's economic climate it's either incredibly short-sighted or typical Party Line.
You're right - it is typical Libertarian line. The economy sucks, I know. Does that mean Wal-mart should suddenly force upon itself a higher wage for employees out of sheer emotional pleas and reactions like Catawba just did?
Somewhere along the line we became so much of a dependent nanny state that a lot of things that are privileges, we view as rights. I blame anyone - especially presidents, regardless of affiliation - for selling the simplicity and luxury of the "American dream". The truth is that not everyone deserves 2.3 kids, 1.7 cars, and 1.4 pets just because they weaseled through the revolving door we call a public education system.
