Do MEN have a Right to CONTROL Women's Health and Reproductive Systems?

1. Yes?

2. No?

3. Under Certain Circumstances (Briefly list what circumstance(s))

4. Does a male dominated government have the right to legislate controls over women's health issues and reproduction?

5. Does a male dominated religion have the right, through its teachings and doctrine, to have to control over women's health issues and reproduction ?

Only when those issues conflict with a child's safety and right to live.

well, off hand, i'd have to say .. no.

but then again, women's health issues were made part of public policy.. and men are part of "public.. so i'd say ..yes

then again, i'd say what a woman does with her body is her problem.. and i'd say.. no

then again, id say that women want other people, including men, to subsidize ( through government and insurance pools) their women's health treatments, so i'd say yes.

overall, i'd day that if a woman takes care of her health issues herself, nobody else really has a say.... but if you puts her private health issues into the public policy sphere, she invites everyone else into having a say about her womb.

it's not an easy yes or no answer.... that's what i'm getting at.

Yes. Barefoot, pregnant and ignorant are the only things any woman should strive for.

False dichotomy on several levels.

1. Women vote and have a say in government. There are slightly more women than men. Therefore to call the gov male dominated is questionable.
2. Not all women are pro-choice on abortion. Many are pro-life.
3. Not all men are against abortion.

To frame this question in this manner is to ignore many facts, most important among them that this is not a male dominating female issue, but an issue with proponents on both sides in fairly similar gender distributions.

While women's health issues are different from men's....i.e., their reproductive systems...the human body is pretty much the same beyond that.

Health issues shouldn't be controlled by anyone except the individual involved. We look to experts for protocols -- how best to treat breast cancer...how best to treat ovarian cancer...how best to, well, I think you get the idea. If those protocols are put in place by experts who are more heavily weighted to men in the drivers' seats, I have no problem with that. I have confidence in treatment recommendations made by the AMA...I don't look behind the curtain to see if there are more males than females.

Thanks for your opinions, Goshin...

I'm sure this is about men having views on abortion and your partisan talking points of "sexist men legislating reproductive rights" etc.

What's your response to at least one of the poll questions Digsbe?

Please give me a choice. How about: No one has the right to control Women's Health and Reproductive Systems.

None of the poll questions reflect what I believe because they are biased.

Men have a right to vote just like women do. Men have absolutely every right to have their votes, beliefs, and opinions enacted and listened to in regards to the abortion issue.

Are you afraid of controlling women?

I guess you have no power to impress them with...

...so sad, too bad.

That's purdy much the long and short of all that, too.

Putting the abortion load on women is controlling them via using them as a scapegoat.

Thanks...by that answer then I assume that you are suggesting that ONLY WOMEN have the right to control their own health issues and reproductive system?

Agreed. Women shouldn't be expected to know what's good for themselves and hand over control to men they can trust. :2razz:

Besides, women don't want to exert self-control anyway. Who does?

The only reason this question needs to be asked is because we have let health care decisions fall into the hands of politicians and state apparatchiks. The individual should be in control of his/her own health decisions.

Agreed. Preborns shouldn't have their health decided by someone else.

I voted 'under certain circumstances' because there are circumstances where women can give them that power (not neccesarily men, but whoever happens to be given the authority). And if you are talking about the federal govt, there are any number of laws which might generate circumstances where men would make decisions that affect womens health. The FDA, the EPA all have men working there who make decisions that affect womens health, like what the can and can not eat, or the quality of their water and air. The DoD makes health decisions about the women in the military, including pregancy. Women who commit crimes might find themselves in a jail where men control their ability to reproduce and other health issues.

So, again, the answer is, it depends.

oh shush up... some folks are trying to ensure the "war on women" talking point stays alive... do not spoil it with reason.

Gooood Boyyyyyyy...Thrilla! You so clever...

I made no opinions in relationship to the questions. How hard is it to simply answer...YES or NO...Certain Circumstances...?

I saw this recently and think it's apt:

Especially when you combine with the argument that if government pays for your health care, then it gets a say in how you live your life. Most people who would make that argument would also be taking the hypocritical stance illustrated in the pic.

As for the poll question, Goshin said what needed to be said.

Nobody should have control over anyone else's body in the manner of which you are using an example of (the OP). Period.

Nice to see who the men are who feel threatened by the prospect of women controlling their own health issues and reproductive systems...
