Simply put, if Iran offered to end their nuclear program if we dismantled some of our nuclear weapons, would you take the offer?

Of course not.

This issue has much less to do with Iran developing a nuclear arsenal than it does with Iran wanting to take down the petrodollar and destroy our economy.

In fact, the only reason Iran wants to build a nuclear arsenal in the first place is so they can use it as leverage in their attempt to take down the petrodollar.

Get it now?

sure.

assuming of course that Iran allowed full random inspection of any and all facilities suspected of being engaged in nuclear activities, with the understanding that failure to comply would result in the immediate application of bunker-busting JDAMs to that facility.

....which Iran will never agree to. remember, Iran does not recognize the validity of the position that she shouldn't have a nuclear program and be regional hegemon. that whole ability to recognize that the other side has some good points? yeah - their culture doesn't really emphasize that, and their government doesn't have it at all. There is ultimately only one argument they will actually accept:

1. stop your nuclear development
2. or we will blast you to smithereens

No. For two reasons...

Iran has showed no reason to believe that it would honestly and in a forthright manner cooperate with some kind of inspection program to assure that their nuclear program has actually ceased. And, second, once we dismantle our weapons they're dismantled. Done, end of story. If it then comes out that Iran didn't live up to their end of the bargain...then all we did was essentially dismantle some of our nukes for nothing.

No I would not support such a deal.

1.Iran can not be trusted to dismantle their nukes. So it would us getting rid of some nukes for nothing.
2.It would be extremely hypocritical for our government to tell other countries that they can't have nukes while the US government can.

Personally I would like to see every nuclear weapon on the planet disappear as well as the means and blue prints or plans to make nuclear bombs disappear. But at the same time I am not naive or stupid. No country in the world is stupid enough to trust the other country to get rid of their nuclear weapons.Removing your all your nukes would put you at the mercy of countries that do have nukes.

That's ridiculous. Oil is bought and sold in other currencies.. the Petro Dollar is a benchmark.

And, Iran doesn't sell a great deal of oil... most of it goes to Europe and Asia..

Iran's oil production is about 3.4 million bpd per day.. and only half of that is exported.

"Some" of our nuclear weapons? Sure I'd make the deal. Dismantle 10 nukes and we've fulfilled our part of the bargain...never mind that we still have hundreds more or can make more.

We have too many nukes. We should dismantle some now just to control costs. and do it w/o a deal w/ Iran. Iran is playing games with this. Ask Iran to propose how many before this is taken seriously.

We have thousands.

oil is bought and sold in other currencies, but the us dollar is the main currency used.the focus with the petro dollar with iran and iraq was that after they swithced to euros, other countries would slowly fall suit and since our currency is directly related to oil,it allows us to print more money and have it still hold value because most major countries require dollars to buy oil.

and basically in switching from the gold standard to the petro dollar and debt to maintain value, the united states and most major countries started a large ponzi scheme that will fail.war with iraq and dealing with iran is nothing more than hanging on to that scheme even longer.this is also why rich people like to invest in gold,if china dumps all our debt and all countries dropped the dollar for trading, the rich would still have precious metals while everyone else would have to keep a currency thats only worth the paper its printed on.for this reason the united states has a large gold reserve just incase the dollar fails, but that gold standard wouldnt be worth as much to the country in whole as inflated printable money.

It's a little sad that, as of yet, nobody has mentioned that the Iranians have made several offers to suspend the pursuit of nuclear weapons, in exchange for some very modest assurances from Washington, or that Iran was the most vocal proponant of the FISSBAN treaty, to which the United States was the sole opposition.

Sure. If its proven that Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons....

Tell that to Saddam Hussein....

...oh, wait you can't. He started trading crude oil for Euros and ended up dancing on the end of a rope.

exaCTLY.neither iran nor iraq was enough to derail our currency but both of them tried to convince other countries to join.when your top dog and someone challenges your position,no matter how weak they are the usual response is to obliterate them,if for nothing else but to leave a message to others planning to defy you.

... and the simple answer is no.

As Iran is an unreliable negotiating partner any such offer would not be acceptable.

Sure...I'd take that offer. I'd dismantle a couple of nukes...right on top of their heads.

LOL!!

Why does it matter that if Iran had a nuclear weapon again? If both countries neighboring mine got invaded, then I'd do everything I can for protection.

Iran is completely surrounded by American bases or direct-allied countries now.

Do you think they're going to give up their only chance to have real deterrence against invasion?

Don't kid yourself about bargaining. The U.S. wants to get in there before the deterrence is realized. The business contracts and resource control it would grant our country would be unparallelled. With the completion of the trans middle eastern pipeline system, under the control of the U.S., we would be able to challenge OPEC and reduce our own oil prices in the process.

Any attempt to bargain with Iran will be done to save face. They are the missing puzzle piece. It's just a matter of time before we invade. I'm not commenting on whether this is a good or bad thing, but the reality of the situation.

If anything, I would say that this reflects the supreme power of our business sector to control both American and world economy. They are literally reshaping nations, often by force, in order to apply their economic hegemony to new parts of the world. I find it scary.

that map is all kinds of inaccurate. Turkey and Pakistan are the wrong color, and Iraq should properly be striped.

Iran is indeed pursuing nukes. when even the UN and the Euro's admit that diplomacy has failed to stop them, diplomacy has failed.

If they could be trusted? Absolutely, we have more nukes than we need anyway so the gain is entirely in our favor. Problem is they can't be trusted.

Iran does have to deal with a large American presence around itself, but that map is so stupidly inaccurate and wrong the last time I saw it used was in the conspiracy theories section
