I think Netball is one of the most popular participation sports in the world. Cricket, meh. I don't mind watching an ODI a 20/20 or (very) edited highlights of a Test. It's not as boring as Baseball, surely.

As a spectator, I really don't like stop-start sports. I watched the Superbowl and while I enjoyed the action, all the breaks made me lose the will to live.

I am pretty sure that netball isn't in the top 15 or 20.

I will rank what I think them to be and then go look them up.

1. soccer (futball)
2. tennis
3. baseball
4. cricket
5. golf
6. basketball
7. football (grid iron)
8. table tennis
9. auto racing
10. swimming

Football (American). but asking this question a day after the superbowl is a bit disingenuous. Baseball or softball is more fun to play especially for older people. Hell, you can drink beer and play.

Nba.......

I don't know. Maybe that could be part of the reason, but I'm more inclined to think that our colder climate is more of a factor. I think hockey popularity starts at a grassroot level, and hockey leagues are not very common in the southern part of the US.

I agree...most places are more temperate in the US. Hockey is pretty popular in the colder areas...Bruins/Red Wings Avalanche etc. I'm from Florida...I didn't even see snow until I turned 23...

I think the NFL is the most successful in the US, and you can't really argue that.

Personally, I like the sport of hockey the best, but the NHL can **** off, it's run by a bunch of incompetent assholes who wouldn't know a good business decision if it smacked them in the face with it's ****.

I like auto-racing a lot as well, NASCAR, F1 mostly.

It would appear thus:

  1. Football (Soccer)
  2. Cricket
  3. Hockey (Field)
  4. Tennis
  5. Volleyball
  6. Table tennis
  7. Baseball
  8. Golf
  9. American Football
  10. Basketball

You're right, netball ain't there.

in the first 100 years of professional sports, baseball had the best athletes. Now, its a tossup whether its NBA guards or NFL skill position players. basketball is the most watched sport in the USA between college (where baseball is no where near college football or basketball in fan interest) and pros. Football is the most popular pro sport to watch even though obviously more people watch pro baseball (162 games) or pro basketball (cannot recall how many games-is it around 80) than pro football

on a world level the most popular sports to watch are Soccer, racing, tennis, field hockey and table tennis. The most popular sport to play on an organized level is soccer (team) and table tennis (individual)

more people train seriously in table tennis than any other sport
