The nice thing about Reagan is that he made Americans feel good about being Americans, in the wake of Carter.

Since when do Americans NOT feel good about being Americans? We're the most prosperous, most powerful, and most privileged nation in the world regardless of who sits in the White House.

that is true, how come so many dems are upset about those facts

In reality Truman decided to support the French when HCM was a big fan of the USA and pissed HCM off driving him to the Communists. Truman freaked out over Mainland China following to Mao and he couldn't figure out that HCM was a nationalist first and only adopted communism as a means to throw out the decadent French

Truman, give 'em hell Harry was one of our best presidents, if not thee best of all time. He wasn't a ***** and made the hard decisions at the end of WWII. He had the balls to drop the bomb and save American lives. He was smart in post-war America and saw to the implementation of the Marshall Plan so that Japan and Germany weren't brought to their knees like what happened in post WWI. He saw to it that post WWII Jews had a country of their own and place that they could defend and live in a homeland that was theirs.

Truman was the best, best, best president of that century. I wish we had more like him.

He was also a blatant racist and not a particular proponent of civil rights. Nobody is perfect, and as such there's not a single President I would say was absolutely awesome.

Well i assume that in some cases it's that we have become prosperous, powerful, and privileged at the expense of others. That's one reason. Another reason is that these things make some Americans more prone to hubris and complacency.

but his idiocy when it came to backing the Decadent French government's desire to reestablish their destroyed colonial empire after the war was one of the most costly mistakes in American History

Oh, c'mon, you remember what it was like under Carter.

Oh, wait, maybe you don't. ;)

You must have missed Carter.

I have watched Republican after Republican praise him for being a model of a great president. I will not disclose my personal views of Reagan at this time I am just curious of your views.

Regardless of the fact that no one worthy of holding that office has held it since Ronald Mother****ing Reagan.

It's difficult to respond to this thread as Obama has set the bar so high as president. Makes Reagan look like an amateur if you do an apples to apples comparison.

He would have to have been prescient...civil rights were 20 years down the pike, after all.

He made all the big decisions of his day for the best of decisions in his day.

that wins the heavy sarcasm post of the month award!!!

Yep, Dion, Reaganomics was no picnic! That's when the trickle-down theory that never has and never will got started.

maybe the thing to do is go out and earn what you want rather than sitting around hoping someone is going to sprinkle you with wealth

Good old turtle, just because people disagree with you, doesn't mean they aren't just as hard
working as you think you are. Obnoxious critter, go watch "Death Valley Days" reruns and you can see Ronald Reagan again.

Uh I didn't vote for Ronnie in 80 or 84 my dear gnawer of hardwood

And what would you know about hardwood, Mr. TurtleTail

Reagan's second term was just plain dreadful. I was raising kids - prices were growing far faster than paychecks and loan rates shot through the roof. He was an awful president IMO and that comes from my memory - not reading fluff pieces about how great he was.

Part of the reason why trickle down economics doesn't work.

Ronald Reagan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

probably would be beneficial for people to fully read the wikipedia page on reagan and read a whole overview of his presidency, rather than picking one thing from his presidency and labeling him good or bad without seeing the whole picture.

Many folks here LIVED through Reagan's administration and remember it, personally.
